Dr Oz: The Dream Catcher | Episode 4

Our friend Dr. Oldman has been losing sleep due to some pretty interesting dreams involving fairy tales. To try to get rid of these dreams, Dr. Oldman has been meeting with a sleep therapist named Dr. Oz. Can you guess which fairy tale will be in Dr. Oldman’s crazy dream this week? Here’s a hint – it involves porridge . . .

The only way for Joseph to honor Pharaoh was to rely on God to help him interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. When we have a hard time honoring others, we need to rely on God to help us.

Weekend Wrap-Up

1st – 5th Grade

Monthly Bible Verse: John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
Bible Story: Pharaoh’s Dreams | Genesis 41:8-32
Lesson Overview:

This month in Motion we have been looking at the life of Joseph and what his story can teach us about honor. We’ve learned that honor is acknowledging the value in others by . . .

  • realizing God gave everyone gifts. (Joseph’s Dreams | Genesis 27:5-11)
  • treating them the way you want to be treated. (Joseph’s Brothers Sell Him | Genesis 37:12-36)
  • by always acting with kindness. (The Cupbearer and Baker’s Dreams | Genesis 40:1-23)

This weekend  in Motion we learned that honor is acknowledging the value in others by relying on God. Joseph used the gift he had been given to help Pharaoh. He understood that his ability to interpret dreams came from God. The only way to honor Pharaoh’s request was to rely on God to help him interpret Pharaoh’s dream.

When we don’t know how to honor someone or it’s hard to honor someone in our lives we can rely on God to help us.

Bible Story: The Wise and Foolish Builders | Luke 6:47-49
Main Point: I Will Obey!
Memory Verse: “Do not just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says.” - James 1:22 (NLT)
Lesson Overview:

We went on another great adventure with Sharky this weekend! We were swimming in some deep blue seas when we discovered another video from our good friend Captain Nic. He and his submarine crew were searching for treasure in the same seas and had some discoveries of their own!

During their dive Captain Nic put Pogo in charge of the Seaburst Submarine, but the rest of the crew did not want to listen to what Pogo said.

The crew learned “I WIll Obey!” from the Bible story of the wise and foolish builders (Luke 6:47-39) and decided to obey Pogo so they could finally discover the treasure they were searching for!

Monthly Focus: God Wants Me To Trust Him!
Bible Story: Joshua and the Wall of Jericho | Joshua 6:1-21
Weekend Activity: God Says Trust! activity

We played the game God Says Trust in eKidz this weekend. Play it at home with your family! God told Joshua to march around the wall seven times. Joshua trusted God and did what God said. Say, “Let’s all stand in a circle. When I say ‘God says trust!’ I want you to shout ‘hooray!’” Say simple commands for your toddler to follow: touch your head, pat your belly, raise your arms over your head, jump up and down, etc.  Every few commands say “God says trust!” Encourage your toddler to shout ‘hooray!’ Say, “We can always trust God no matter what! God wants us to trust Him. Joshua trusted God, and we can too!”

The CODE: Core Values For Every Child

We understand what God has done in and through our church is not normal. The only explanation is God’s hand of favor and mercy over a group of people willing to follow Him faithfully. To help maintain our unity, tone, and trajectory, we developed 12 core values as a church that make us unique. We call it The Code.

Your kids in Motion have been learning about 6 of these values.  Use this coloring sheet as a fun way to keep learning.

Fairy Tale Trials at Home (Week 3)

In this week’s episode of Fairy Tale Trials, our “Little Reds” took on one of the most fun Minute-to-Win-It challenges ever – “Face the Cookie”! For an evening full of laughs, try out this challenge with your family. Here’s how…

Supplies for this challenge are simple – all you need is cookies. We recommend Oreos, but experiment with what type of cookies you like best!

The challenge is for a contestant to start with a cookie balanced on their forehead, and not using anything except their facial muscles, to move the cookie down their face and into their mouth.

Not only do you get a yummy prize for success, but everyone watching will die laughing at the extreme facial contortions you go through!

Check out the original Minute-to-Win-It instructional video: http://www.nbc.com/minute-to-win-it/how-to/episode-229/face-the-cookie/

Bonus idea: video a family member trying Face the Cookie and tweet the video @eKidz!

Weekend Wrap-Up

1st – 5th Grade

Monthly Bible Verse: John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.”
Bible Story: Joseph’s Brothers Sell Him | Genesis 37:12-36
Lesson Overview:

This weekend  in Motion we learned that honor is acknowledging the value in others by always acting with kindness. Joseph had a special gift of interpreting dreams and told his father and brothers about a dream where they all bowed down to him. His brothers were really upset and jealous of Joseph and sold him into slavery in Egypt.

Eventually, Joseph was thrown into prison. While in prison Joseph interpreted the dreams of two men. Joseph didn’t have to interpret the dreams of these two men, but he showed them kindness and gave credit to God for the gift he had been given.

We can show honor like Joseph did by always acting with kindness.

3 years – Kindergarten

Bible Story: The Good Samaritan | Luke 10:30-37
Main Point: I Will Be Kind to Others!
Memory Verse: “Do not just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says.” - James 1:22 (NLT)
Lesson Overview:

We had a great time diving down deep with Sharky to discover more treasures about Jesus! During the dive, we found a video of our good friend Captain Nic and his crew exploring the same seas. During their quest to find the Golden Sea Horse, the crew learned “I Will Be Kind To Others!” from the Bible story of the Good Samaritan.

Just like the Samaritan man was nice to the hurt man on the road, the crew learned they should be kind to each other during their adventures in the deep blue seas.

During Sharky’s Deep Sea Adventure, Quest kids are working hard to collect all eight shark’s teeth. Each weekend in Quest kids will collect another tooth for their Sharky poster. So far, kids have collected three shark’s teeth. Encourage your child to collect all eight teeth, glue them to their poster, and bring their poster back on June 1st or 2nd for their very own shark’s tooth necklace! Miss a week? Collect extra Shark’s teeth this weekend in Quest!

Monthly Focus: God Wants Me To Trust Him!
Bible Story: Joshua and the Wall of Jericho | Joshua 6:1-21
Weekend Activity: The Wall crown

Use The Wall crown to review the Bible story with your toddler. Sit on the floor with your toddler and put the crown in the center. Point to the stone wall and say, “Joshua and his men needed to get into the city of Jericho but there was a HUGE stone wall. God told Joshua to walk around the wall once each day for six days. Let’s march around the wall six times.” Stand up and march around the wall (crown), each time counting out loud the time around. After marching six times, say, “on the seventh day, Joshua and his men marched around the wall and played trumpets and shouted. Let’s march around the wall one more time and make lots of noise!” March around the wall one more time, making lots of noise. Say, “after Joshua and his men marched, the wall came tumbling down! Joshua trusted God. God wants us to trust Him too!”
