For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory. (1 Thessalonians 2:11, 12 NIV)
I came across this passage the other day and was drawn to how Paul states that a father ‘deals with his own children.’ I guess it stood out because I’m always on the lookout for parenting tips. After all, I need all the help I can get.
What God has been teaching me through this passage is directly impacting how I approach time with my 3 kids. Over the next few days, we will unpack the three aspects of this passage.
By definition, encourage means to literally put in courage, to inspire, to spur. Pastor Steven has taught us how important it is to encourage our kids as we believe greater things for them and speak to their potential.
Often times, we will ask our kids what they want to be when they grow up. While it’s a fine question, as parents we must take time to share what we are believing for them.
Take some time today to speak words of encouragement into your child’s life. It means more than you will ever know.
