Motion :: Week of September 9

Main Point: God says I’m His.
Bible Story: Moses: The Plague | Exodus 3

No matter how old we are, we each have a common enemy – ourselves. How do kids focus on growing a relationship with God when their own negative thoughts of insecurity, fear, condemnation, and discouragement are speaking so loudly in their lives? Each week during the Rise Above series kids will learn how to use God’s Word to rise above the chatter in their lives and to hear God’s voice above all the others.

We’ll follow a pretty average kid named Daniel as he encounters various voices in his life and see how he learns to rise above them.

Daniel was able to remember that no matter what, God says we’re His. He created us, He loves us, and He calls us His sons and daughters! Even when we’re feeling insecure, God says we’re His!

During eGroup we got in the ring with insecurity as Moses showed us how to fight against the voices that tell us we don’t have what it takes.

Moses didn’t think he had what it took to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He didn’t feel important enough to talk to Pharaoh and he wasn’t a good communicator. But when God created Moses, God already knew exactly what He would ask Moses to do one day, so He created Moses with everything Moses could need to do his job. When we are doing what God wants us to do, we don’t have to wonder if we’re good enough; He made us and gave us exactly what we need!

The Bring It! Challenge
We want kids to Bring It! to church. The Bring It! Challenge encourages Motion kids to bring themselves, their Bible, and scripture they’ve learned to Motion. Not only can kids be rewarded for bringing it, but the Bring It! Challenge is a fun way to grow and learn more about God and how He wants us to live.

During Rise Above, kids can earn fun prizes each week. Kids have to FIND any one of our series verses in their Bible and RECITE it from memory!

Rise Above – Week 2 #Motion

RISE ABOVE: Doing what God says, even when it’s tough.
BIBLE STORY: Joshua Defeats Jericho | Joshua 6:1-20

To Rise Above means “doing what God says, even when it’s tough.” The past two weekends in Motion we have been learning how to rise above the fear and negative voices that can try to drown out God’s truth in our minds.

God’s people, the Israelites, faced a lot of enemies. God always had a plan to protect them and fulfill His promises to them, but sometimes His plan didn’t make much sense to His people, like when He told the Israelites they could break down a giant wall just by walking around it and blowing some horns.

All God asks us to do is trust Him and do what he says, even when it’s tough or it doesn’t make sense. Just like when the Israelites didn’t understand God’s plan but they did what He said anyway, they defeated Jericho! When we trust God and do what He says even when it’s tough, we can rise above and win!

Rise Above – Week 1 #Motion

Rise Above

RISE ABOVE: Doing what God says, even when it’s tough.
BIBLE STORY: God Appoints Gideon | Judges 6:3-16a

This week we kicked off Rise Above, a two week series where we hope to send kids into a new school year ready to rise above the fear and negative voices that can try to drown out God’s truth in their minds.

During this series, we’ll be following a pretty average kid named Daniel as he encounters various voices in his life and see how he learns to rise above them.

To Rise Above means “doing what God says, even when it’s tough.” This week we learned that God’s people, the Israelites, faced a lot of enemies. God always had a plan to rescue and protect them, but sometimes His plan didn’t make much sense to His people, like when He called Gideon, a man hiding from his enemy because he felt weak and small, to defeat the Midianites all by himself. But if we trust God and do what He says even when it’s tough, we can rise above our fear and win, just like Gideon rose above and defeated the Midianites!

See you next week for the last week of Rise Above!

Rise Above : Episode 6 #CrashTheChatterbox

February Memory Verse: II Corinthians 10:5b, “And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Bible Story: Joshua 6:1-20

Main Point: When it’s tough, God’s enough.

It’s the final week of Rise Above and our friend Daniel faces a challenge greater than any he has up to this point. Watch it now:

When Daniel encountered all four negative voices at once, he drew on the encouraging words he’d heard in the past in order to rise above them. He was then able to help another classmate who faced the same issue.

As we move out of this Rise Above series, the most important thing you can remind your kids of is that they will never completely eliminate the negative voice of the chatterbox but they can continually fill their minds with God’s truth and rise above negative thoughts.

Lastly, Pastor Steven mentioned in his sermon this weekend that as a parent, one of our most important roles is to do our best to give our children plenty of ammunition of God’s truth. We can do that by teaching our kids God’s Word, getting them in church regularly, and speaking life over them. That way, whenever they encounter the lies of our enemy, they can stand on the firm foundation of God’s Word.
