Motion :: Week of February 25

LOVE: Choosing to treat others the way you want to be treated.
MAIN POINT: Love others because they matter to God.
BIBLE STORY: The Good SamaritanLuke 10:27-37
MEMORY VERSE: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 (NIV)

God is love. As we read through the Bible, we see an epic love story unfold that reaches a dramatic and unmatchable climax when God sends His own Son to die for our sins to ensure we can spend eternity with Him. That ultimate act of perfect love changes everything. And when we choose to treat others the way we want to be treated, we show them a glimpse into this perfect love God has for each and every one of us.

This week we talked about how we should love others because they matter to God.

252Story BehindTheScenes Wk4 from Elevation Church eKidz on Vimeo.

When Jesus told the Pharisee’s, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself,” they shot back with another question: “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus went on to tell the story of the Good Samaritan. When faced with the decision to ignore an enemy or have compassion, the Samaritan chose to set aside His differences and show love.

We should love others because they matter to God. We won’t always get along with everyone we meet, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of God’s love. Through this story, we pray we will see that all people matter to God, and we should show His love to everyone we meet.

LOVE: Choosing to treat others the way you want to be treated.
MAIN POINT: Comfort others who are hurting.
BIBLE STORY: Jesus Calms the Storm | Mark 4:35-41
MEMORY VERSE: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 (NIV)

God is love. As we read through the Bible, we see an epic love story unfold that reaches a dramatic and unmatchable climax when God sends His own Son to die for our sins to ensure we can spend eternity with Him. That ultimate act of perfect love changes everything. And when we choose to treat others the way we want to be treated, we show them a glimpse into this perfect love God has for each and every one of us.

This week we learned what it means to love by giving to others.

In Mark 6:30-44 we see how Jesus’ care for others turned into one of His most amazing miracles. Jesus reached a point in His ministry when He was extremely popular. Everyone wanted to hear what He had to say about the kingdom of God. On one occasion, thousands of people showed up to hear Him speak. As it became later in the day, Jesus could have sent them all home to grab some dinner, instead He made the unthinkable happen. He turned five loaves of bread and two fish into a meal for more than 5,000 people.

We show love when we give to others who are in need. As we start to see others the way God sees them, we will become more aware of their needs. We have opportunities everyday to help others and meet their needs. This can be as simple as lending a pencil to a friend or offering to share part of our lunch. It’s amazing how when we start to show love to others when we
become aware of the needs around us.

February Bring It! Challenge

BringIt_Sign_8.5x11_January2017We want kids to Bring It! to church. The Bring It! Challenge encourages Motion kids to bring themselves, their Bible, and scripture they’ve learned to Motion. Not only can kids be rewarded for bringing it, but the Bring It! Challenge is a fun way to grow and learn more about God and how He wants us to live.

During Behind the Scenes, kids can earn fun prizes each week by:

  • FINDING 1 John 4:10 in their Bible.
  • RECITING 1 John 4:10 from memory.
    • SAYING the series virtue, LOVE, from memory. (Love: Choosing to treat others the way you want to be treated.)

In Psalm 119:105, we read that God’s word is like a light that guides us. When we dig into God’s word, we start to know how God wants us to live. The Bring It! Challenge helps kids dig into God’s words and see the next steps to take on their journey through life. God’s Word points the way towards a growing relationship with Jesus.

This week we learned love is comforting others when they’re hurting.

In Mark 4:35-41 we look at a Bible story from a different point of view. Jesus and His disciples were out on the sea when a flash storm struck fear into the disciples. Jesus showed love for His disciples. He calmed the storm and showed that He can be trusted no matter what.

Just like Jesus comforted the disciples, we can comfort others who are hurting. We meet people everyday who need comfort. As kids discover how Jesus showed love in comforting His disciples during the storm, we pray they will start to become aware of ways they can show love and comfort people in their lives. We can all learn to encourage people in our lives and show them how much God cares about their needs.

Motion – Week of February 4 #Motion

LOVE: Choosing to treat others the way you want to be treated.
MAIN POINT: Love others because Jesus loves you.
BIBLE STORY: No Greater Love | John 15:12-13
MEMORY VERSE: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10 (NIV)

God is love. As we read through the Bible, we see an epic love story unfold that reaches a dramatic and unmatchable climax when God sends His own Son to die for our sins to ensure we can spend eternity with Him. That ultimate act of perfect love changes everything. And when we choose to treat others the way we want to be treated, we show them a glimpse into this perfect love God has for each and every one of us.

We will spend the month of February taking a closer look at the way love shows up throughout the Gospels in how Jesus interacts with others.

In John 15:12-13, we discover that Jesus showed us love in the most sacrificial way possible, by laying down His life for us. Jesus asks us to love one another, just as He loved us in the way we sacrifice for our friends.

Love others because Jesus loves you. As we learn about Jesus’ sacrificial love for us, we pray they will start to understand how they can show love sacrificially to the people in their lives. Showing love to others will not always be convenient. When we begin to see our potential to love in light of Jesus’ love for us, we will understand that showing love, even when it’s difficult, is worth all the effort.
