Star Search – Week 5 #Motion

033116_eKidz_Motion_SSEA2

Series Memory Verse: James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Main Point: Stand up this summer.
Bible Story: Jesus in the Garden, Matthew 26:36-46

Today we recapped our Star Search series and got ready to head into summer. See the recap of Star Search here:

Just as Rosie learned to stand up for what was right by the end of the series, we can carry this lesson with us into the summer. When schedules and activities are different, it’s that much more important to keep conviction as a central part of our composition. Talk with your family about opportunities you’ll have this summer to continue to stand up for what’s right. Pray for God’s courage and strength to choose what is right. Come back next week for a brand new series in Motion called The Force of Kindness and if you’re away from church throughout the summer, stay connected through the Elevation app and this site!

Star Search – Week 4 #Motion

Series Memory Verse: James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Main Point: Get in the habit of standing up for what’s right.
Bible Story: Daniel and the Lion’s Den, Daniel 6

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Check out the fourth episode of our Star Search series!

The competition has come and we have a winner – Tyson! Ultimately, however, Rosie realized that she had to choose to stand up for what was right and she returned Tyson’s sword to him. She didn’t win the competition but found a new confidence and sense of conviction.

Throughout this experience, Rosie struggled with standing up for what was right, though her friend Tyson gave her a wise example. He was able to stand for right because he was in the habit of doing so and it’s the same in our lives. We need to make sure our habits are reinforcing right behavior. Talk with your family about how you can get or stay in the habit of standing up for what’s right. Come back next week as we wrap up Star Search and kick off summer!

Star Search – Week 3 #Motion

Series Memory Verse: James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Main Point: When you stand for what’s right, you can stand up for others.
Bible Story: Daniel Interprets a Dream, Daniel 2

This was the third week of our Star Search series, check out what happened here:

Rosie is becoming friends with Tiffany and her group. Initially they just challenged her to change her look, but now they’re causing her to act in ways contradictory to what she believes – being unkind to others, covering up wrongs, and even stealing.

In particular, Tiffany treated Ethan unkindly. Tyson stood up for Ethan but Rosie was sort of stuck in the middle, unsure what to do. It’s important to stand up for others, especially those who can’t stand up for themselves. That’s a big part of conviction.

Talk with your family about instances you have stood up for others or had the opportunity to. Encourage each other to have the courage to stand up for others. And come back next week to see what happens next in Star Search

Star Search – Week 2 #Motion

033116_eKidz_Motion_SSEA2

Series Memory Verse: James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Main Point: You can stand for what’s right, even when it’s not popular.
Bible Story: The Fiery Furnace, Daniel 3

We headed into the second week of our Star Search series, where Rosie from The Finders is struggling to know where to take a stand for what’s right. Check out episode two here:

Rosie is developing a friendship with Tiffany and her squad, but it seems that a different look isn’t all that Tiffany wants from Rosie. Some of their behavior is starting to conflict with things that Rosie previously believed. Rosie, in an effort to increase her popularity with Tiffany, is struggling with compromising her beliefs.

Popularity is a tricky thing. It can feel very attractive but the pursuit of it is also powerful enough to cause you to do things you never would have considered before. God, however, calls us to stand for what’s right even if it’s not popular. We saw a great example of this in the book of Daniel, where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego chose not to bow down to the statue of King Nebuchadnezzar, even though it almost cost them their lives. Talk with your family about peer pressures that you feel. Encourage each other to continue standing for what’s right and pray for God’s strength as you choose to do so.

Star Search – Week 1 #Motion

033116_eKidz_Motion_SSEA2

Series Memory Verse: James 4:17, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Main Point: If you want to stand up for what’s right, listen to someone who listens to God.
Bible Story: Daniel is Trained in Babylon, Daniel 1

This week we began a brand new series called Star Search. We followed Rosie of The Finders and saw that the rec center where she has an after school job is hosting auditions for the TV talent show Star Search. Check out the first episode here:

Rosie is considering trying out for Star Search but has two different voices in her life. Her friend Tyson seems encouraging but Tiffany, the girl she met at the dance studio, seems to think some significant changes are needed if Rosie wants to have a chance at the audition.

In our lives, we have a lot of different voices speaking to us too. We have to choose who we listen to. Some will help us grow in our relationship with God, others will hurt us. In Star Search, we’ll have to see which voices Rosie listens to the most. Talk with your family about the voices in their lives and pray for the wisdom to discern God’s truth in every scenario.

Come back next week to see the next episode of Rosie’s adventure in Star Search
