Motion :: Week of October 15

Courage: Taking the first step, even when something is difficult.
Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage when I’m doing something for the first time.
Bible Story:
Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream  Daniel 2

Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.

In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.

This week read Daniel 2 with your family. Daniel had never been asked to interpret a dream before, much less guess what someone else had dreamed! But when Daniel begged God for help, God showed Daniel exactly what the king and dreamed and helped Daniel understand what it meant. It still would’ve been hard to believe he could do something crazy that he’d never tried before, especially knowing his life was on the line, but God gave Daniel the courage to do it anyway.

It’s never easy to do something new for the first time. Not knowing if you’ll like it and wondering what you’ll do if you don’t like it can be scary! But God can help us show courage when we do something for the first time. Courage is all about taking the first step, so when you choose to try something for the first time, you’re already showing courage!

Motion :: Week of October 7

Courage: Taking the first step, even when something is difficult.
Series Memory Verse: “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NIV)
Main Point: I can show courage when I’m in a new place.
Bible Story:
Daniel Training in Babylon Daniel 1

Every day we have a choice: to stand up and be courageous or to step back into the crowd. But this choice is not always as easy as we might think. The strength to take the first step toward doing the right thing can be difficult to find.

In this series, we’ll join Alex in the land of Aethasia, a place where courage is born and heroes are made. We’ll study the Bible hero, Daniel, who exemplifies what it means to show courage in the face of adversity, and we’ll help kids see their own opportunities to be courageous every day.

This week read Daniel 1 with your family. Daniel was in a new place with new people, and it would’ve been easier for him and his friends to eat like everyone else rather than disagree and stand out. But Daniel had the courage to do things God’s way instead of doing what was easy just to fit in. God rewarded Daniel’s courage by helping him and his friends become healthier and wiser than any of the other young men they trained with.

Just like Daniel, you can show courage in new places, too! Being in a new place or any unfamiliar situation can be scary. The easy thing to do would be to avoid new places altogether, or to do whatever it takes to blend in if you have to go somewhere new. But these cards gave us some great ideas how we can take the first step to show courage. Even when it’s difficult, we can take the first step to show courage we’re in a new place!

Motion :: Week of September 30

Main Point: God says I can!
Bible Story: Elijah: The Rainmaker | Luke 22 & Acts 2

No matter how old we are, we each have a common enemy – ourselves. How do kids focus on growing a relationship with God when their own negative thoughts of insecurity, fear, condemnation, and discouragement are speaking so loudly in their lives? Each week during the Rise Above series kids will learn how to use God’s Word to rise above the chatter in their lives and to hear God’s voice above all the others.

We’ll follow a pretty average kid named Daniel as he encounters various voices in his life and see how he learns to rise above them.

During eGroup we got in the ring with discouragement as Elijah showed us how to fight against the voices that tell us we can’t.

Elijah struggled with discouragement. He had lost hope in himself and his ability to do what God wanted him to do. But when Elijah cried out to God, God reminded Elijah that He would give Elijah everything Elijah needed to fulfill his calling. When he started to doubt he could do anything right, God told Elijah he could do it, and God says we can do what we need to do, too!

BEGINNING NEXT WEEK IN MOTION!

Next week we start an adventure with Zack and Alex from the Finders who uncover the secrets of a mysterious arcade machine and get pulled into a new world filled with action, adventure, and danger. We’ll learn how to have courage in different situations we face and what it looks like to take the first step, even when something is difficult.
