SAY: “Welcome to eGroup! My name is _______ and I’m your eGroup leader! As an eGroup we will hang out together during Motion, read from the Bible, learn what it means to live for Jesus, and play games! This is the last weekend of the series called My Bible: Unplugged. During My Bible, we’ve unplugged from ideas like the Bible is boring, unconnected to our lives, or unimportant and plugged into the Bible to learn more about it, how to use it, and how it applies to our everyday lives.”

DO:

  • Explain bringing a Bible to Motion is very important because we use it to help us learn about Jesus and how to  live.
  • Not only do we use our Bibles in eGroup, we have been taking them to Large Group as well.
  • Have kids get out their Bibles to look up the weekly scripture.
  • Let kids who do not have their Bible share from your eGroup Bible supply. These kids will also take a weekly scripture card with them to Large Group.
  • Give VIP kids/kids new to series a bookmark to mark the verse in their Bibles so they can find it easily during Large Group. The bookmark has the books of the Bible to help them locate scripture in their Bible.
  • Kids who already have a bookmark should bring their bookmark back each week.

SCRIPTURE FINDING SKILLS

SAY: “Our scripture this week is Romans 1:16. Romans is a book of the Bible found in the New Testament. Turn to the Table of Contents in your Bible. Let’s find the word Romans there.” Help kids locate the Table of Contents and find Romans.

SAY: “The Table of Contents can help you find a book in the Bible. What page does Romans start on in your Bible? Let’s turn to that page right now!” NOTE: This page number will be different depending on the Bible. Help kids find the page in their Bibles.

SAY: “Next, let’s look at the big, dark numbers. The big numbers are the chapters for each book. We need to find chapter 1 for Romans 1.” Help kids find Romans 1 in their Bibles.

SAY: “Now, we need to find the verse. The verse is the little number. We need to look for the little 16 that is after the big 1. Got it? Once you do put your bookmark on that page!” Help kids mark their Bibles in the correct spot.

SAY: “Today Chelsea explained to us how the Bible is our connection to God’s power. The Bible is full of God’s true and powerful words. It can change our lives! Let’s read Romans 1:16 again.”

DO:

  • Have kids open up their Bibles to Romans 1:16. It should still be bookmarked from Large Group, but if not, help kids find the verse again. Kids can read from a scripture card if they do not have a Bible. Read Romans 1:16 out loud.
  • Kids will form groups of two to three to answer the following questions. First they will introduce themselves and then answer the question. Have them form new groups of two to three for each question.
  • Ask a question and let kids discuss. Then follow up the question with the SAY.
    • QUESTION 1: “What is the most powerful thing you can think of?”
      • SAY: “God’s Word in the Bible is more powerful than all of those things!”
    • QUESTION 2: “If you knew you had the most powerful thing in the world, would you use it?”
      • SAY: “We do have the most powerful thing in the world! The Bible! It connects us to God’s power and we should use it as much as possible!”
    • QUESTION 3: “What’s some good news you’ve heard recently?”
      • SAY: “The Gospel is God’s good news about Jesus. The best way to hear this good news and share it with others is by getting plugged in to the Bible by reading it!”

SAY: “Something so powerful can be a little intimidating. You might be thinking, the Bible is so big! I don’t even know where to start! Let’s talk about how Motion is here to help you!”

SAY: “Each week Motion helps you plug in to God’s power when weread from Bible as an eGroup and memorize verses from the Bible together. We would love nothing more than to help you stay plugged in to the Bible at home and by reading it and talking about it with your family, too!

We know when you do that, you get plugged into God’s power and He will change your life and help you live a life which honors Him! That’s why we have a very special gift we want to give you today. It’s a super awesome, month long devotional for you to continue to plug in to God’s Word!”

DO:

  • Show kids the two devotionals and allow kids to choose one devotional (I Can Learn The Bible OR Truth or Trash)
  • Give kids a pen to use during the activity. Have kids write their names on the devotional.
  • Complete the first activity, “Motion Devotional,” (pages 4 and 5 in both devotionals) together as an eGroup.
  • Collect pens when finished.

SAY: “This devotional will get you started and you can continue to be plugged in to God’s power every day! When you are plugged in to the Bible you’ll have God’s Word in your mind and heart and His power will be with you wherever you go.”

GROW

POWER UP
PRAYER AND GAME ACTIVITY: Prayer is an important way to share Jesus with passion. Spend time in prayer with your eGroup before beginning the game.

SUPPLIES

SAY: “Before we begin our last activity, let’s pray together.”

DO: Take prayer requests and write them down in your eKidz prayer journal so you can pray for your eGroup kids during the week. Encourage kids to share one or two prayer requests. Invite kids to pray with you if they want.

SUGGESTED PRAYER: “Dear God, Your Word is powerful! Thank You for giving us something to stay plugged in to Your power. Help us to read and memorize it so we can use it’s power to change our lives. We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

SAY: “When you plug in to God’s Word you plug in to His power and purpose for your life. Today we are going to play a game called ‘Power Up!’ To stay in the game you’ll have to plug in to the power of your team! The fastest team will win!”

DO:

  • The goal of the game is to score the most points by being the fastest team to send the “power” through the line to grab the ball.
  • Split kids into two even teams. Have teams sit in a line, hip to hip, with all legs crossed. It’s important teammates are sitting close together, side-by-side. The team lines should be facing one another and about two feet apart. (See diagram at top of page.)
  • Have teammates ‘plug in’ to their team’s power by holding hands.
  • Place the ball at one end of the space, close to the kids sitting at the end of each line. Stand at the other end of the lines, opposite of the ball. Have the die with you.
  • Have teams practice sending power down the line by squeezing hands. Always start at the end near you and ending on the end by the ball. When the kid on the end feels a squeeze they will try to grab the ball before the other team.
  • For each round:
    • Kids will all turn their heads to look at the ball except the kids on the end sitting beside you. They will look at the die. The kids on the end by the ball will put their hand on their knee. They must leave their hand on their knee until they feel a squeeze from the kid beside them.
    • Roll the die. If the die is green, the kids next to you will start their teams power by squeezing the hand of the kid next to them. If it’s red, they should not squeeze.
    • If green is rolled, the first team to send the power through the line and grab the ball at the other end earns a point. If red is rolled, but a team grabs the ball the team loses a point.
  • Rotate kids through the line so everyone gets a chance at grabbing the ball.
  • The first team to 10 points wins the game!

SAY: “Reading the Bible is the best way to plug in to the plan God has for your life. By bringing your Bible to Motion we’ll learn how to do that together. But something just as important as bringing your Bible to Motion is using your Bible at home, too! That’s how we stay plugged in, by reading the Bible other times during the week.

Each week of My Bible you were given a devotional to do at home with your family. Who brought back their devotional back from last weekend? (Reward these kids with a My Bible Bin ticket to receive an additional tool from the My Bible Bin at dismissal.)
