Welcome / Talent Show
“Welcome to Motion and welcome to our series called Star Search! During this series we’ll be following Rosie from the popular Finders series as she works to become a contestant on a TV show called Star Search. Before we check out today’s episode, I want to search for some future stars who might be attending Motion today.
Talent come in many different forms. We may have kids here who are great at singing, dancing, or we may even have some future artists in the room, but the talent we want to identify today is a little more loud. That’s because today we’re going to find out who can sing the deepest note possible. Listen up, I’ll give you an example of someone singing a very low, deep, musical note:
(wait for audio cue)
When I call on you to come up to the stage, you’ll introduce yourself and then sing as low as possible. Sounds easy, right? Here, let me go first and I’ll show you all how it’s done!
(Sing the low note first to help get kids out of their shell. Once a kid comes up and sings, make sure you congratulate them. If this game flops or kids don’t want to participate, you can choose a more general talent like most pushups in 30 seconds, who can jump the highest, or other physical activities that would be fun to watch.)
Motion, all of our contestants did an outstanding job, but I’ve got to choose a winner from this amazing group. Today’s winner of the singing contest is _____________! Motion, give __________ and all of our contestants a big round of applause for competing!”

(initiate applause, walk off stage)

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups
“I’m so glad Rosie decided to do what was right and I’m so glad that Tyson was such a good friend to Rosie, even when Rosie was trying to impress Tiffany and the girls. I wonder if you’ve ever had a friend like Tyson? Let’s take 20 seconds and circle around our eGroup leaders so we can talk about what it means to stand up for what’s right. Do that now.
(give kids 20 seconds to find their eGroup leader)
Ok, first question for you to answer with your eGroup: In the end did Rosie make the right decision by choosing Tyson to be her friend? Why is Tyson a better choice than Tiffany? Take a few minutes to talk about that with your eGroup.
(give kids three minutes to answer the question)
Ok, next question! What friend do you have that can give you good advice like Tyson? Why do you trust that friend so much? Answer that question now.
(give kids thee minutes to answer the question)
Ok, final question: Why do you think God wants us to stand for things that are right? Take a few minutes to talk to your eGroup leader about that now.
(give kids three minutes to answer the question)
Now Motion, you’re going to head back to your eGroups now to talk more about conviction and how you can get in the habit of standing for what’s right. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, stand up and follow them back to your eGroups.”
(dismiss kids back to their eGroups by calling their eGroup leaders’ names)
“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we have some more fun, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!
If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

Game Setup – You’ve Got Moves, Kid!
“Great job, Motion. Everybody can have a seat.
(wait for kids to be seated)
Throughout Star Search we’ve seen some incredible dancers who with a lot of precision and speed, which is exactly what we’ll be testing in today’s game called You Got Moves, Kid!
In just a moment I’m going to have my volunteers come out and help lay out today’s dance floor, but first, let me explain how the game works. To begin the game, each kid will start by having their feet placed on two different color squares. For example your right foot could be on the black square and your left foot could be on the red square. Once the game begins, I will start calling out different colors at a slow pace. After each color I call, you’ll move your foot to that new color. Every color I call, you’ll alternate feet, going left foot, right foot, left foot, right foot. Over time I’ll speed up and you’ll have to move your feet quickly, just like any professional dancer. If you fall behind your steps or you start missing steps, eGroup leaders will have you step off the dance floor until we play again.
Now, let me have everyone step to the side of the room while we lay out our dance floor. This may be a good time to start stretching, kids. Okay, helpers. Let’s get the dance floor out here!
(Set up the game boards on the floor. Make sure kids aren’t standing on it until the game is ready to begin.)
Alright Motion, step on the mat with your feet on two different squares. It’s time to check out if You’ve Got Moves, Kid!”
