Memory Verse: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14, NIV

WELCOME

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to our series called Road Trip, where we’re learning that, just like any fun car ride, the real prize may be the journey getting there, not the destination itself. That’s why it’s so important for us to learn about patience and how we trust God, even when it may take awhile to get where we’re going. But what is patience? Let’s take a look at the screen and find out!
Patience: Waiting until later for what you want now.

Showing patience is difficult and sometimes when we’re asked to show patience for a long time, we may become angry or frustrated with the wait. But what if I told you that getting frustrated won’t make the wait go any quicker? That may be hard advice to hear, but don’t take just my word for it. I think we need to find out what the Bible has to say about patience. Take a look at the screen!”

Connect Questions Intro

“Sometimes when you’re waiting, becoming angry and frustrated with others is the first thing that pops into our minds. But in our Bible story, we learned that while you’re waiting, don’t make yourself look foolish by taking it out on the people around you.

Now, it’s time for us to answer a few questions about today’s Bible story and the video we just watched. Circle around your eGroup leaders now!

First question: Pick one decision Maya made and explain how you would have handled it differently. Discuss that now.

(give kids one minute to answer the question)

Next question: Have you ever felt frustrated while you had to wait for something to happen? What made you feel that way? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Last question: Waiting for something important can be frustrating. The next time you get impatient or frustrated, what can you say or do to help yourself get over those feelings?”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

BRING IT! CHALLENGE SETUP

“Now Motion, it’s time for the Bring It! Challenge!

During this month’s Bring It! Challenge, you’ll need to do the following three things to receive a prize. Check out the screen.

(watch the Bring It! Challenge video)

That’s right, Motion! To receive your Bring It! prize, you’ll need to:

FIND Psalm 27:14 in your Bible and show it to your eGroup leader.

RECITE the verse for this series, Psalm 27:14, from memory.

SAY our virtue for this series from memory. In fact, that’s on the screen now, too!

(say the virtue again with the kids)

Patience: Waiting until later for what you want now.

Ok, so let’s recap. To earn your prize, you’ll need to FIND this month’s verse, RECITE the verse to your eGroup leader, and SAY the virtue for this month. Take a look at the screen and you can see the prizes now!

(refer to the prize slide)

Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s complete the Bring It! Challenge!”

Game Setup – Swingman

“Now Motion, it’s time for today’s game! When I’m traveling with my family, I love playing a word game called ‘Swingman!’ In this game, I’ve got a word in mind and the entire room will need to guess all of the letters in the word.

I’ll give you the choice of four potential letters that come next in the word. But to choose the letter you want, the game becomes a little like four corners. I’ll assign four corners in the room a letter. Whichever letter you think is correct, move to that corner. Whichever corner has the most kids in it will be chosen and then we’ll find out if the letter assigned to that corner is actually in the word. If it’s not, or swingman gets one step closer to falling off his swing.

Let’s put the Swingman game on the screen and everyone can stand up and get ready to play!”
