“Happy New Year and welcome to Motion – the coolest place to be in 2018! I’m glad to see you all here and I know you’ve had an awesome time celebrating Christmas and New Years with family and friends.
Speaking of starting a brand new year, one of the things people do around this time is make a resolution – or a promise – to do something different in the new year. For example, some people may make a resolution to eat healthier, travel the world, start playing a new sport, but here in Motion, we’ve made a resolution not just to commit to our faith, but we’re also committing to working out! We’re going to commit to making our bodies healthier and making sure we’re the best versions of ourselves! But what does it mean to commit to something? Let’s take a look at the screen:
Commitment: Making a plan and putting it into action.
Say that with me now.
(repeat the virtue with the kids)
Great job, Motion! Like we said together, commitment is all about making a plan and putting it into action and we’re going to start working on our New Year’s resolution of fitness right now. Everyone stand to your feet because it’s time to begin our plan and start our Workout Of The Day!”
Workout of the Day
“Today’s workout is a simple series of stretches – after all, we don’t want to pull any muscles at the beginning of the year! Everyone follow my lead as we start to work it out!
(raise your arms over your head and lean to the left)
Now follow my lead! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…
(lean to the right)
Other side! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…
Now twist your waist to the left! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…
(twist your torso to the left)
Finally, twist your waist to the right! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
(twist your torso to the right)
“Great job everybody! Now that we’re warmed up, let’s put that energy to good use and we sing, dance, and thank God for the amazing things He’s done. Let’s sing, ‘Strength To Dance.’”

Video Host Outro
“Having a plan in place is always good, but we need to make sure that we’re listening to the right plan – God’s plan!
Now, let’s answer a few questions about today’s Bible story and the video we watched. Circle around your eGroup leaders now!
(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)
First question: Why was it smarter to build a house on solid rock than on sand? What happened to the house built on sand? Discuss that now.
(give kids one minute to answer the question)
Second question: What does it mean to ‘build a house’ like the characters in today’s story? Discuss that now.
(give kids two minutes to answer the question)
Now Motion, it’s time for our final question: What can you do to build a stronger house, like the man who built his house on the rocks? How can you help a friend build a strong house? Discuss that with your eGroup now.”
(give kids two minutes to answer the question)
Dismissal To eGroups
“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can follow them back.”
(dismiss kids back to eGroups)
“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we continue, I wanted to take a moment and welcome some very special guests who came to visit us for the first time. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!
If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.
(refer to the screen)
This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.
[VIP Slide – Lanyard]
When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the __________ tent called the Welcome Area.
[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]
Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!
[VIP Slide – Gift]
[VIP Slide – All Combined]
VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.
If you have any questions about where to go or what to do, just ask someone in a blue eKidz shirt and we’ll be more than happy to help you out!”
Bring It! Challenge Setup
“Now Motion, it’s time for the Bring It! Challenge!
During this month’s Bring It! Challenge, you’ll need to do the following three things to receive a prize. Check out the screen.
(watch the Bring It! Challenge video)
That’s right, Motion! To receive your Bring It! prize, you’ll need to:
- FIND 1 Timothy 6:18 in your Bible and show it to your eGroup leader.
2. RECITE the verse for this series, 1 Timothy 6:18, from memory.
3. SAY our virtue for this series from memory. In fact, that’s on the screen now, too!
(say the virtue again with the kids)
Generosity: Making someone’s day by giving something away.
Ok, so let’s recap. To earn your prize, you’ll need to FIND this month’s verse, RECITE the verse to your eGroup leader, and SAY the virtue for this month. Take a look at the screen and you can see the prizes now!
(refer to the prize slide)
Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s complete the Bring It! Challenge!”

START. NOW. Challenge Info
“Before we get into today’s game, I wanted to let you all know about an awesome opportunity we have to make a commitment to coming to Motion and a chance for you to invite your friends as well!
Each week during our START. NOW. eKidz Challenge, you’ll receive two wristbands – one for you and one to use as an invitation to eKidz for a friend. At the end of the month, you and your friends can earn prizes depending on how many wristbands you’ve earned by coming to church. How cool and easy is that? Make sure you grab your wristbands on the way out the door today!”
Game Setup – Get Moving
“Now Motion, it’s time for today’s game!
We’re continuing with our commitment to getting fit this year by playing games that will test your strength, agility, and ability to listen to instructions, even when you’re getting tired. Our first game this month is called ‘Get Moving.’
In this game, I’ll give you four different set of instructions and you’ll need to complete the instructions I call out. For example, when I yell ‘Jump Rope!’ You’ll all begin acting like you’re jumping rope, just like this.
(model jumping rope for the kids)
Another thing I’ll say is ‘Jumping Jacks!’ Then, you’ll need to start doing jumping jacks like this.
(model doing jumping jacks for the kids)
Another thing I might say is ‘Jog!’ When I say jog, you’ll need to start jogging slowly and find a new place in the room to stand, just like this.
(start jogging slowly and move from one side of the stage to the other)
The last thing you’ll need to do is a ‘Pushup,’ but probably not the kind of pushup you’re thinking of. I’ll need a partner for this, so let’s get _________ to come up to the stage.
(call someone to the stage that is about equal height with you)
The two of you will sit down, back to back. Then, you’ll link arms together and try to stand back to your feet without falling over. You’ll do it like this.
(imitate the action mentioned above)
So those are your four actions: Jump Rope, Jumping Jack, Jog, and Pushup. If you do any of the actions too slowly after I call them OR you and your partner can’t do the pushup without falling back down, I’m going to end you to the Locker Room at the back of the room until I tell you you can come back in and play again.
Now, everyone stand up and let’s play ‘Get Moving!’”
