WELCOME

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to our series Up In The Air! This month we’re going to learn all about honesty and how we can choose honesty when we have to make decisions. But what is honesty? Take a look at the screen and let’s find out:

Honesty: Choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.

Last week we were introduced to Maya, a teenage girl who’s got herself into a dishonest situation. Maya’s facing a difficult decision as she has to decide if she’s going to help Ripley, a dishonest kid who’s trying to cheat on an upcoming test. Will Maya be able to show honesty, or will she follow Ripley and help  him steal test answers at school? Let’s find out in this week’s episode of Up In The Air!”

CONNECT QUESTIONS

“Oh no! Maya should have been honest and never worked with Ripley, but since she did, she got Link into trouble. Oh man, what’s going to happen next? Make sure you’re here next week to see what happens!

Now, let’s answer a few questions about today’s Bible story you read in eGroup and the episode of Up In The Air we watched. Circle around your eGroup leaders now!

(give kids a few moments to gather around their eGroup leaders)

First question: How did Maya show dishonesty in today’s episode? Who did her dishonesty affect? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: Has your dishonesty ever hurt someone else or gotten them in trouble? What happened? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question: How can us being dishonest hurt others? What can do we after we’re dishonest to make it right?

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

WORSHIP INTRO

“Motion, you had some great answers today! It’s so important for us to show honesty to others. More importantly though, is to be honest with God. One way we can honestly share our feelings towards God is through worship and singing about His great love. Stand to your feet and let’s sing, ‘Love Won’t let Me Down!’”

DISMISSAL TO eGROUPS

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can follow them back.”

GAME: TO TELL THE TRUTH

“Welcome back, Motion! I know you had a great time in eGroup, and now it’s time for us to continue the fun with a game called, ‘To Tell The Truth!’ Maya’s not just the only amazing pilot around here — in fact, there have been tons of famous pilots all throughout history! During this game, you’ll need to decide if the information I tell you about a famous pilot is true or false. Then, you’ll move to one side of the room or the other depending on your answer.

Ok, let’s take a look at our first famous pilot. This is Amelia Earhart.

(refer to the first game slide)

Amelia Earhart is an absolutely fascinating pilot who accomplished a lot and, throughout her career, was able to set all kinds of world ‘firsts.’ Let’s take a look at our first question: Amelia Earhart was the first female pilot to cross both the Atlantic AND Pacific oceans. True or false — make your choice by moving to the side of the room that matches up with your answer.

(give kids 30 seconds to choose one side or the other)

If you guessed the answer was true, good job! You’re right! Ok, next question:

(refer to the second game slide)

Amelia was the first female fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force. True or False? Choose now.

(give kids 30 seconds to choose one side or the other)

If you guessed the answer was false, good job! Amelia Earhart never flew for the U.S. Air Force — she was a professional pilot who flew because she had a passion for flying, not for the military.

Ok, last question:

(refer to the third game slide)

Amelia Earhart retired from piloting in 1965 at the age of 74. True or false? Choose now.

(give kids 30 seconds to choose one side or the other)

If you guessed that this answer was false, you’re correct! Amelia Earhart wanted to be the first woman to fly around the entire world, but sadly, her airplane disappeared somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean and Amelia and her plane were never seen again. Amelia’s legend lives on though, and Amelia inspired so many people to pursue their passions and not let ANYTHING get in their way.

Great job, everybody! You did such a good job in today’s trivia game! Go ahead and find your eGroup leader and have a seat.”

BRING IT! CHALLENGE SETUP

“Now Motion, it’s time for the Bring It! Challenge!

During this month’s Bring It! Challenge, you’ll need to do any of the following three things to receive a prize ticket that could earn you a huge piece of candy or our grand prize — your very own drone! Check out the screen.

(watch the Bring It! Challenge video)

That’s right, Motion! To receive a Bring It! prize ticket, you’ll need to do any of the following:

  1. FIND Proverbs 12:22 in your Bible and show it to your eGroup leader.
  1. RECITE the verse for this series, Proverbs 12:22, from memory.
  1. SAY our virtue for this series from memory. In fact, that’s on the screen now, too!

(say the virtue again with the kids)

Honesty: Choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do.

Ok, so let’s recap: to earn prize tickets and a better chance of receiving the grand prize at the end of this series, which is an awesome drone, just like the one Maya operates, you’ll need to complete the different parts of the Bring It! Challenge. For every part of the Bring It! Challenge you complete, you’ll earn another prize ticket and the more tickets you earn, the better chance you have to win an awesome drone or a giant piece of candy!

(refer to the prize slide)

Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s complete the Bring It! Challenge!”

BRING IT! CHALLENGE

GAME SETUP: Two Truths and Lie

“Great job during the Bring It! Challenge, Motion! Make sure you’re completing each part of the Bring It! Challenge to earn your chance at winning a drone!

Now Motion, it’s time for today’s game called “Two Truths and a Lie.” In this game, I’ll show you a picture or video clip of something dealing with aircraft or drones. Then, you and your Game Group will need to determine which of the three statements I show on the screen is actually a lie.

I’ll show the picture or video on the screen, then give you three statements about what you just saw. Two will be the truth, but one will be a lie. Your Game Group will have 10 seconds to determine which statement is a lie, write the answer on your whiteboard, then hold it ‘Up In The Air.’ Get it? Up In The Air? Cuz’ that’s the name of our series? Ok, never mind.

Anyways, if your Game Groups correctly selects which statement is the lie, you’ll earn 100 points. The Game Group with the most points at the end of the game wins! Find your Game Group, or group of 10 kids. Once you’ve formed a Game Group, we’ll hand out supplies and get started!”

(help kids divide into Game Groups, then hand out whiteboards and markers)
