Bible Story

David Dances Before God

2 Samuel 9:12-22a

Welcome / Intro

“Welcome to Motion, where we have yet another edition of the Motion Awards! Why an awards show? Because all month long we’ve talked about Honor!

Honor is letting someone know you see how valuable they really are. And one thing I know for sure is that you people are super valuable!

“In fact, today we’re going to change things up and give an award to one of our amazing eGroup leaders! In this case, it’s our Lifetime Achievement Award. Today we’re going to honor the eGroup leader who has been volunteering in Motion for the longest time. Put your hands together for [volunteer’s name]!

(bring the volunteer on stage and have the kids begin chanting the volunteers’ name)

Motion, let’s give one more final round of applause to [volunteer’s name]!

It’s the final week of Spotlight, which means we’ve saved our best story about honor for last. Check out the screen!”

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“We should have the same attitude that David did. When things are good, or when things are tough, we should always honor God with our words and actions. Instead of worrying about what other people will think, we should point to God and give Him credit for everything He’s done. We can help others see we can trust God no matter what.

God is worthy of ALL of our honor. He loves us. He walks with us through everything we might face in life. He’s given us His Son Jesus so that we can choose to believe and follow Him. Every day, we should thank God and honor Him by giving Him the credit He deserves.

Now Motion, it’s time for us to circle around our eGroup leaders to answer a few questions. Do that now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Do you think David was worried about what Michal thought of him worshipping God? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: When you worship, who should you be trying to impress, your friends or God? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question and it’s today’s ‘See What God Can Do Through You’ question: what can you do to honor God at school? What about at home? Discuss those questions now.”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answers coming from your eGroups today.

We saw that David was bold when he worshipped God in today’s Bible story. As we worship today, I want you to raise your hands and prepare to dance, just like David did. Stand to your feet and let’s sing “Dance!”

Worship Song – This Is Living

Worship Song – Shine A Light

Dismissal To eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to Fear Inc., let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the orange tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

[VIP Slide – All Combined]

VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

“Motion, I’m so glad you’ve joined us during our time in Spotlight. Throughout the series you had the opportunity to win prizes by finding the memory verse for Spotlight in your Bible and reciting it to your eGroup leader, just like the slide says on the screen. It may be the last week of the series, but that also means you’ve got one more opportunity to earn a prize. Everyone turn to your eGroup leaders and, if you brought your Bible, you’ll have an opportunity to earn a prize now.”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

Game Setup – Be The Spotlight

“We’ve had so much fun during Spotlight and we’ve played games where you’ve been able to showcase some of your artistic talents, but this week we’ll be putting the spotlight on a more practical talent – the ability to find things.

In this game you’ll use the spotlights you were given in your eGroups to dig through items inside this giant pool and to find the items shown on the screen.

One kid from each eGroup will come on stage to compete during each new round. The kids on stage will bend down in front of the giant pool and when I say ‘Go!’ a slide will appear on screen showing the items that need to be found. The first kid to correctly remove the items from the pile and show them to me wins the round and earns points for their team.

Let’s bring one kid from each eGroup on stage and we’ll get ready to play ‘Be The Spotlight!’”

252 Movie Intro

“Motion, thank you so much for being here throughout Spotlight. We’ve heard so much about David and honor throughout this series and I can’t wait to hear how you’re going to go and show honor to others. Speaking of showing honor, I want to check in with David and hear him tell us about his decision to dance before God. Check this out!”
