Welcome / Intro

““Hello, everyone, and welcome to Motion, the greatest show on earth! I’m your ringmaster, ____________, and I’m out-of-this-world excited that you are here today. Today we are going to see men in cages with ferocious lions, tigers jumping through fire, and bears who can ride bicycles!

Ok, ok, ok … you all probably realize that I’m not serious about the lions, tigers, and bears. But, this month, we will discover what it’s like to take some risks like high wire walkers in a circus. Taking risks can be scary. But that’s why High Wire is a perfect place to find out a little more about trust.

Take a look at the screen!

252 Story

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“Motion, I absolutely love that story! Joseph knew that God was with him. Joseph knew he could trust God to take care of him. And that’s what God did. While Joseph was in Egypt, God gave him success in everything he did. Even though he may not have always known it or felt it, Joseph wasn’t alone. Over the next few weeks, you’ll get to find out how God took care of Joseph through the ups and downs of his life.

Before you head back to your eGroups, I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders because I’ve got a few questions I want you to answer. Take 10 seconds and circle around them now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Do you think Joseph felt alone while he was in the well? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: Have you ever felt alone in your life? What made you feel that way? Discuss that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question: What does the Bible say we should do when we feel alone? Who can we turn to? Discuss that question with your eGroup now!

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answer coming from your eGroups today. Right now it’s time to head back to our eGroups, so when I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to High Wire, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the orange tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

[VIP Slide – All Combined]

VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.”

Worship Intro

“Now Motion, it’s time for us to sing and worship God. The Bible is filled with amazing promises, and one of those is that God is for us. Every single day we can hold on to that truth. Let’s sing and celebrate that God is on our side. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Alive!’”

Worship Song – Alive

Worship Song – One In A Million

Game Setup – Staying Flexible

“Great job, Motion! Everybody can have a seat as we prepare to play today’s game.

(wait for kids to be seated)

Part of being in a circus is maintaining a high level of flexibility. Being flexibility not only helps prevent injuries, but it also means you can perform bigger and better tricks! In today’s game we’ll see which eGroup is the most flexible as you and your team twist and dip your way to victory.

Each kid will receive one of these brown paper bags.

(hold up a paper bag)

You’ll open the paper bag and play it on the ground in front of you. Then, you’ll clasp your hands behind your back like this

(show kids how that you’re holding your hands behind your back)

and when I say ‘Go!’ everyone will bend down and try to pick the paper bag up using only your teeth. That means you can’t bend down on one knee or use your hands to help you keep your balance. You can only use your flexibility and stability to stay upright.

If you can’t perform the pickup, you’ll have to grab your bag and move to the outside of the room and perform stretches until we play again.

For those that are able to pick up the bag with their teeth, I’ll have you play again, but this time you’ll have the fold the top of the paper bag down one inch and we’ll play again. We’ll keep doing that until we’ve found one kid who can perform even this most difficult task with the greatest of ease.

It’s time for us to play, so everyone clasp your hands behind your back and let’s get started!”

252 Movie Intro

“Great job, Motion! Everybody have a seat.

(wait for kids to be seated)

Earlier today you learned all about Joseph and how his brothers threw him in a well. There were probably many times Joseph felt alone at the bottom of the well and when he was sold into slavery. But the truth is Joseph was never really alone. Take a look at today’s main point:

(refer to main point slide)

Let’s say it together: When you think you’re alone, you can trust God is with you.

Great job! Now that we’ve followed along with Joseph’s story in the Bible, I think it’s time for us to hear what life might have been like for Joseph in the well. Check out the screen!
