Welcome / Video Intro

“Hello Motion and welcome to our new series called, actually. I’m not going to to tell you just yet. Check out the screen and I’ll let you figure out the name of the series!

(watch the video with the kids)

Any one want to take a guess about the name of the series?

(wait for kids to guess it)

That’s right! Everybody say it with me! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

(lead the kids in a GOAL! yell)

In this series we’re talking about humility, which is putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve. In fact, why don’t you all say that with me now!

HUMILITY—putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.

In a sport like soccer, or fútbol for you Europeans out there, the person who makes the assist is just as important as the person who scores the goal. You can’t win a soccer game by yourself and the people playing defense are just as important as the people playing offense.

In your eGroup you heard a powerful story from the Bible about how Jesus, God’s Son, showed humility by washing His disciples’ feet. Let’s learn a little more about that story by taking a look at the screen.

Connect Questions

“What an amazing story! Jesus spent His entire life on Earth putting other people first—listening to them, teaching them, healing them, and even washing their really dirty, yucky feet! As you’ll see one the next few weeks, He will show us over and over again that we can put others first by serving them.

Let’s circle around our eGroup leaders and answer a few questions about Jesus’ humility. Do that now.”

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Why was washing someone’s feet considered to be work for a servant? Why do you think Jesus washed His disciple’s feet? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: When was the last time you did something you didn’t want to do for someone else? How do you think that made them feel?

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Now Motion, our final question is our ‘See What God Can Do Through You’ question. Today’s question is: What can you do this week to help somebody else out? Who do you know that you can help?”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answers coming from your eGroups today. It’s time for us to celebrate God’s love as we stand to our feet and sing songs of thanks and praise. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘For Your Glory!’

Dismissal To eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we continue, I wanted to take a moment and welcome some very special guests who came to visit us for the first time. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

Game Setup – What Do You Mean I Have To Hit It With My Head?

“Our series GOOOOOAL! takes us to the soccer field as we discover what it takes to be a superstar of humility, but what does it mean to have superstar soccer skills as well? In today’s game you’ll be able to put your soccer skills to the test as we play a game called ‘What Do You Mean I Have To Hit It With My Head?’

In this game your Game Group will line up behind a line on the floor. Your Game Group leader will stand a few feet in front of you with a soccer ball. A Group leader will toss a soccer ball at the head of the first person in line and that kid will have to use their head and hit the ball back to the group leader. If the group leader is able to catch the ball as it comes back, then that game group earns a point. The kid who just headed the ball goes to the back of the line and then the next kid steps up to take their shot. We’ll play the game for one minute and whichever game group gets the most points in one minute wins the round.

Now, the important thing with heading the ball is to make sure you’re using proper form. You never hit the ball with the top of your head – you always hit the ball right here in the middle of your forehead.

(point to the middle spot on your forehead)

That way, you get the most control and power. Everyone do a practice round with me. Keep your eyes open and move your head forward like this:

(Demonstrate proper header form. Watch the Host video if you have questions about how to do this.)

Great job! Looks like you’re all ready! Form your game groups, stand in a line, and let’s get ready to play!”

2. RECITE our memory verse for this series, Philippians 2:3.

3. SAY our virtue for this series.

Ok, so let’s recap. To earn your prize, you’ll need to FIND this month’s verse, RECITE the verse to your eGroup leader, and SAY the virtue for this month. Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s work on that now!”
