Fix it Up

Virtue: Forgiveness: Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.
Main Point: When you don’t forgive, you miss out.
Bible Story: The Older Brother
Bible Passage: Luke 15:21-32
Memory Verse:“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

Welcome / Video Intro

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to Fix It Up! Throughout this series, we’ll be looking at how God gives us grace and forgiveness as a gift and how we can give that gift to others as well. Let’s take a look at this month’s virtue and you can say it with me:

FORGIVENESS: Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.

In your eGroups you heard a powerful story from the Bible of God’s love and forgiveness. Last week we heard almost the same story, but we’re going take a look at it from the older brother’s point of view. Check out the screen!”

Connect Questions

“Forgiveness isn’t about being fair. It’s about remembering that God has forgiven YOU. And because of your love for God and through God’s power, you can forgive others. It’s not easy, but it’s always worth it, just like older son should have seen.

Let’s circle around our eGroup leaders and answer a few questions about the parable we heard today.”

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Why was the older brother so angry with his father? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: Why is it so important for you to forgive people who have hurt you in the past? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Now Motion, our final question is our ‘See What God Can Do Through You’ question. Today’s question is: Who do you need to forgive this week? Discuss that with your eGroup now.”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answers coming from your eGroups today. It’s time for us to celebrate God’s love as we stand to our feet and sing songs of thanks and praise. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Shine A Light!’

Worship Song – Shine A Light

Worship Song – Endless Praise

Dismissal To eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we continue, I wanted to take a moment and welcome some very special guests who came to visit us for the first time. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the __________ tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

[VIP Slide – All Combined]

VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.”

Game Setup – Name It

“Motion, our series called Fix It Up has our video host working to fix up a home, but to do that, he’s going to need to use the right tools. In today’s game we’re going to determine if you know which tools are the right tools in a game I call ‘Name It.’

Each game group will receive a whiteboard and marker. I’ll show an image on the screen of something you might see on a construction site and you and your group will write down what you think it is. I’ll give you 20 seconds and at the end of 20 seconds, I’ll have you hold up your game boards. Whichever game group has the right answer on their board will receive 100 points. The game group with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Let’s divide into our game groups and get ready to play ‘Name It!’”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

“Now it’s time for us to clean up these game materials and get ready for our Bring It! Challenge.

(collect all game materials and make sure eGroup leaders have supplies to complete the Bring It! Challenge)

During this month’s Bring It! Challenge, you’ll need to do the following three things to receive a prize:
1. FIND Colossians 3:13 in your Bible and show it to your eGroup leader

2. RECITE our memory verse for this series, Colossians 3:13.

3. SAY our virtue for this series.

Ok, so let’s recap. To earn your prize, you’ll need to FIND this month’s verse, RECITE the verse to your eGroup leader, and SAY the virtue for this month. Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s work on that now!”
