Fix it Up

Virtue: Forgiveness: Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.
Main Point: When you don’t forgive, you miss out.
Bible Story: The Older Brother
Bible Passage: Luke 15:21-32
Memory Verse:“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

Welcome / Video Intro

“Welcome to Motion and welcome to Fix It Up! Throughout this series, we’ve been looking at how God gives us grace and forgiveness as a gift and how we can give that gift to others as well. Let’s take a look at this month’s virtue and you can say it with me:

FORGIVENESS: Deciding that someone who has wronged you doesn’t have to pay.

We heard an awesome story of love and forgiveness from the Bible today about how we can show forgiveness, but more importantly, how often we need to be willing to forgive somebody. Let’s learn a little more about that by taking a look at the screen now.”

Connect Questions

“We’re fortunate that Jesus gave us the perfect example of forgiveness when He forgave us for all the things we do wrong. Because God forgave us, we should forgive others as well.

Let’s circle around our eGroup leaders and answer a few questions about the story of forgiveness we heard today.”

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: How many times did Jesus say we should be willing to forgive somebody?

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: When was it been hard for you to forgive someone? Discuss that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Now Motion, our final question is our ‘See What God Can Do Through You’ question. Today’s question is: Who do you need to forgive this week? Discuss that with your eGroup now.”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answers coming from your eGroups today. It’s time for us to celebrate God’s love as we stand to our feet and sing songs of thanks and praise. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Shine A Light!’

Worship Song – Shine A Light

Worship Song – Endless Praise

Dismissal To eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we continue, I wanted to take a moment and welcome some very special guests who came to visit us for the first time. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the __________ tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

Game Setup – Flip It

“During our series Fix It Up, we’ve played a few games where you’ve got to do some kind of an action – ‘Cover It,’ ‘Flick It,’ ‘Name It’ – but today’s game may cause quite a few of you to ‘flip’ out. That’s because our game today is called ‘Flip It’ and we’ll be playing our game using these water bottles.

(hold up a water bottle for the kids to see)

How is this going to work? A little something like this. Check out the screen!

(watch the video with the kids)

In just a few minutes I’m going to have you form into game groups. Your game group will stand behind this line of tape on the floor and the first person in each line will receive their bottle. When I say ‘Go!’ the first person in each line will flip their bottle and try to get it to land upright. Then, I’ll record which groups earned a point for that round.

After you flip it once, you’ll go to the back of your line and then the next person steps forward and waits for me to say ‘Go!’ again. We’ll play this game for 10 rounds and make sure everyone gets a turn. AT the end of 10 rounds we’ll tally up the scores and see which game group is the bottle flip champion.

Form into your game groups now and let’s get ready to play ‘Flip It!’”

Bring It! Challenge Setup

“Now it’s time for us to clean up these game materials and get ready for our Bring It! Challenge.

(collect all game materials and make sure eGroup leaders have supplies to complete the Bring It! Challenge)

During this month’s Bring It! Challenge, you’ll need to do the following three things to receive a prize:

1. FIND Colossians 3:13 in your Bible and show it to your eGroup leader

2. RECITE our memory verse for this series, Colossians 3:13.

3. SAY our virtue for this series.

Ok, so let’s recap. To earn your prize, you’ll need to FIND this month’s verse, RECITE the verse to your eGroup leader, and SAY the virtue for this month. Circle around your eGroup leaders and let’s work on that now!”
