KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

QUEST COLORING PAGE
COLORING ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Quest coloring page, crayons, die

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a Quest coloring page. INSTRUCT children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did that day.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
  • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

MY NEIGHBORHOOD
GAME ACTIVITY
SUGGESTED TIME
10-15 MINUTES
SUPPLIES
My Neighborhood game board, Quest animal game pieces, location cards, die

SPREAD the My Neighborhood game board out in the middle of the circle. EXPLAIN each child will try to be the first to get their Quest animal to a specific location on the game board.

ALLOW each child to choose a Quest animal game piece. PLACE the Quest animal on the house on the game board that is the same color as that Quest animal. GIVE each child a location card. TELL children their goal is to get their Quest animal from the house to the location on that card. HELP children find the location on the game board as needed.

ROLL the die. All players will MOVE their game pieces according to the number rolled. USE the instructions below to TELL players how to move. REPEAT until a player arrives at their assigned location.

  • If you roll 1-4: Move the number of spaces rolled.
  • If you roll 5: All players must switch location cards with another player. The new card shows the new location their animal is trying to reach.
  • If you roll 6: All players must switch animals with another player. The pieces themselves do not move, but the children will move a new Quest animal.

The game can be played as individuals, teams of two or three, or as two teams.

MY NEIGHBORHOOD FAVORITES

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
My Neighborhood game board, die, leader card, Quest animal stickers

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

God commands us to love one another just as He loves us, and He loves us a lot! It’s also important for us to show love back to God, and today we’re going to show love to Him by worshiping Him together at our Quest Praise Party! Wave both arms in the air if you wore a special bright color today to help us celebrate. Pause for children to wave their arms. Before we get our party started, let’s get to know each other better.

SPREAD the My Neighborhood game board in the middle of the circle. ROLL the die and INTRODUCE yourself. READ the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.

ENCOURAGE each child to ROLL the die, introduce themselves, and ANSWER the corresponding question.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

PETER AND JOHN
BIBLE STORY

SUGGESTED TIME
8 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Bible Story Cards

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story from the Bible story cards.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question correctly, ENCOURAGE the group to say, “Great job, neighbor!”

  1. What job did David do when he was young? (He was a shepherd.)
  2. What did David do while he was out in the fields with his sheep? (He worshiped God by singing and playing his harp.)
  3. What job did David have when he grew up? (He became king.)
  4. What is the name of the book in the Bible with many of David’s songs? (Psalms)

SAY: When David sang songs to God about how great God is and the great things God did for him, that’s called worship. David showed love to God by worshiping Him!  Let’s all say our main point:

I can love God (hug self)
by worshiping Him! (wave arms left and right)

AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
My Neighborhood play pieces, memory verse car

SAY: This month we are learning how we can show love to God and to the people in our neighborhood. Our Bible verse teaches us how to love them. It says:

Love (hug self)
the Lord your God
(point up)
with all your heart.
(place both hands over heart)
Love
(hug self)
your neighbor
(point out)
as yourself.
(thumbs to chest)
Matthew 22:37-39
(open hands like a book)

PRACTICE the memory verse together a few times.

SAY: Today we’re having a Praise Party in Quest to focus on worshiping God! Memorizing God’s Word is one way to worship, so we’re going to play a game to practice our Bible verse together. As we play, you will each have the chance to earn a special glow necklace to wear for our Praise Party!

STAND a person, a tree, and a road sign from the neighborhood pieces in the middle of the circle. TELL children you are going to try to THROW a glow necklace around each of the neighborhood pieces, and they will try to guess if you can  make it or not.

POINT to the person from the neighborhood pieces and ASK children to stand if they think you’ll land the necklace around the piece or stay seated if they think you won’t. TOSS the necklace at the person neighborhood piece. GIVE the children who predicted correctly a glow necklace. ASK the other children to stand and say the verse together.

REPEAT for the other two neighborhood pieces. Each time, GIVE children who predict correctly a glow necklace if they do not already have one. ASK children who predicted incorrectly to stand and say the verse together. After tossing the necklace at all three neighborhood pieces, GIVE any remaining children a glow necklace for saying the verse so well!

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a Memory Verse Car for their My Neighborhood poster! ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves a Memory Verse Car.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

WE FEEL LIKE WORSHIPING
APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
mailbox, feeling cards, Leader Sheet, microphones, album picture

SAY: We are having a great time worshiping together at church, but we don’t just worship God at church. We can love God by worshiping Him anywhere or any time we want! We can also worship God no matter how we feel. Whether we’re happy or sad, we can praise God and thank Him for loving us!

EXPLAIN children will think about ways to worship God when they feel different ways by discussing the faces on the front of the feeling cards. On the back of the feeling cards, there are pieces of a picture. Once kids have discussed all nine cards, they will ARRANGE the picture pieces on the backs of the feeling cards like a puzzle to create one big picture.

GIVE each child a microphone. ENCOURAGE children to sit the microphones behind them and leave the microphones alone until they are instructed to use them.

ASK a child to CHOOSE a feeling card from the mailbox. SHOW children the face on the front of the feeling card and ASK them to share what feeling the card is showing. If the card shows a microphone, ASK children to hold their microphones. READ the instructions for that card from the leader sheet and ENCOURAGE children to respond. PLACE the feeling card face down in the middle of the circle. ASK children to put their microphones back behind them as needed. REPEAT until all nine feeling cards have been discussed.

As a group, WORK together to make one big picture using the backs of the feeling cards. The picture will show something special from our Praise Party! HELP children move and arrange the cards to form the picture. If needed, SHOW children the album picture to use as a reference.

SAY: It’s a picture of our new eKidz worship album called One in a Million! This album has lots of fun songs to sing to God! We know that singing songs to God is a great way to worship Him, and when we worship, we show Him love! Let’s all say our main point into our microphones as loud as we can!

I can love God (hug self)
by worshiping Him! (wave arms left and right)

NEIGHBORHOOD BINGO
GAME ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES:
Neighborhood map, die, goldfish snack

SAY: We’ve had a great time singing and dancing at our Praise Party today, but it isn’t really a party without snacks! Before we eat our snack, we’re going to play a game and use our snack as the game pieces!

GIVE each child a neighborhood map and a Goldfish snack pack. EXPLAIN children will use the goldfish as game pieces to place on different neighborhood buildings as they play the game. To win, children must cover 4 buildings in a row! ASK children not to eat the Goldfish until the game is over.

ROLL the die. SAY: Put a goldfish on a place where… and then USE the chart below to INSTRUCT children where to place the Goldfish on their map. REPEAT until a child has covered 4 buildings in a row.

SAY: Great job, neighbors! I know you’re all ready to eat your snack, but before we eat let’s pray to thank Jesus for the snack and our time together.

ENCOURAGE children to BOW their heads, CLOSE their eyes, and REPEAT the prayer after you:

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for our yummy snack.
Thank you for our church
where we can worship you together!
We love you!
Amen.

EAT the snack and clean up the eGroup area.

To receive today’s main point car, children will have to Remember, Think, and Follow! SAY: Let’s REMEMBER … how did David like to worship God? (with music) Let’s THINK … Where can you find the songs David wrote in the Bible? (Psalms) God did great things in David’s life as he grew from a shepherd boy to the king of Israel. David thanked God for His help and praised Him for how awesome He is by worshiping Him! If you can FOLLOW the example set in our Bible story, let’s say our main point together:

I can love God (hug self)
by worshiping Him! (wave arms left and right)

GIVE each child a My Neighborhood car.

SAY: Take your car home and glue it to your My Neighborhood poster. Make sure to look at your poster every day to remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned how we can show love to God! Let’s say our main point together:
