KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

GET YOUR TICKET
COLORING ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10-15 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
crayons, movie ticket coloring page (1 per child), color die, number die

WELCOME children to your group. Let them know how happy you are they are in Quest and how much fun we are going to have today!

SAY: Today we are headed to Quest Cinemas to learn how to be friends with God! But before we head to the theater, you all need a movie ticket!

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a movie ticket. INSTRUCT children to color the movie ticket. As children color, talk about the picture they are coloring.

CONTINUE until the movie tickets are colored or as time allows.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • Use the color die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the color die again and switch crayon colors.
  • Use the number die to determine the part of the picture to color. Allow children to color the corresponding number rolled on their coloring page, then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling either die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, only coloring what was rolled on their turn.

KID CONNECT

MOVIE SNACK PACK
ENERGIZER ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10-15 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
snack pack game board, number die, color die, blue tokens, yellow tokens, orange tokens

NOTE: The Movie Snack Pack game board is on the back of the movie ticket coloring page, used during the Get Your Ticket activity.

SAY: We have our movie tickets and now we need to head to the concession stand and get our movie snack pack!

ENCOURAGE children to turn their movie ticket coloring page over to the snack pack game board. EXPLAIN children will take turns rolling the number and color dice and placing the correspond number and color of tokens on their snack pack game board.

The color die determines which part of the snack pack game board to add tokens to. The number die determines how many tokens to add the snack pack game board.

To win the game, a child needs to have the correct number and color of each token on their game board.

CONTINUE until one child as a full snack pack! PLAY AGAIN as time allows.

NOTE: Collect the coloring pages/game boards after playing Movie Snack Pack. This will cut down on distractions and allow children to focus on the next activity. Each child will need to take his or ticket to large group to enter the Quest Cinemas theater.

KID CONNECT

BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE
GAME ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
game board, popcorn game piece (1 per child), number die, popcorn sticker

SAY: We have our movie tickets and our movie snacks, now what’s the next thing we need to do? (Allow children to respond.) We need to head to the theater and find the best seat to watch the movie!

PLACE the game board in the center of the group. GIVE each child a popcorn game piece and TELL children to place their popcorn game piece on a footprint on the game board.

EXPLAIN children will race to make it to the best seat in the house – the purple theater seat!

CHOOSE one child to go first. The child will roll the die and move the corresponding number of spaces. Children CAN NOT move diagonally, only left, right, up, or down, by following the lines connecting each seat. CALL on another child to roll the die and move their popcorn piece on the game board.

CONTINUE until one child is the first to reach the best seat in the house. CONGRATULATE the child and GIVE the child a popcorn sticker. ENCOURAGE the child to scratch the sticker to smell the delicious popcorn smell!

PLAY AGAIN as time allows.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert group name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have fun today. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?
Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! 2. When the women arrived, was a big stone covering the tomb’s entrance? (no)
  3. Was Jesus’ body in the tomb? (no)
  4. Who told the women Jesus was alive? (angels)
  5. Who did the women tell, “Jesus is alive!”? (the disciples)
  6. The disciples were together talking about what had happened when who appeared to them? (Jesus)

Jesus makes us God’s friend because we believe he lives again and we tell everyone about Jesus! Repeat our main point after me:

Jesus makes me (point to self)
God’s friend (point up)
because I believe (hand over heard)
he lives again! (fist pump)

EASTER EGG FREEZE
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Easter egg, memory verse sticker

PRACTICE the memory verse. Do the motions and say the verse together a few times.

Believe in your heart (cross hands over heart then say ‘Bump, bump. Bump, bump.’)
that God (point both pointer fingers up)
raised Him from the dead. (raise arms up from sides then say ‘Woo-hoo’ while moving arms from left to right)
Romans 10:9 (open hands like a book)

SAY: Knowing this verse helps us remember we can be God’s friend when we believe He lives again! Some of you have been working hard to learn this verse. Would anyone like to try and recite the verse by themselves? ALLOW children to take turns reciting the verse by themselves. If a child can recite the memory verse PLACE a memory verse sticker on the child’s name tag.

AFTER all children have had an opportunity to recite the verse, PLAY Easter Egg Freeze!

PASS an Easter egg around the circle from one child to the next as fast as possible. After the Easter egg has been passed to several children, SAY: Easter Egg Freeze! The child holding the Easter egg will say the memory verse while the rest of the group does the verse motions.

CONTINUE passing the Easter egg around the circle and SAYING: Easter Egg Freeze!, allowing different children to recite the memory verse.

PLAY as time allows.

BEFORE heading to free play, GIVE any child who has not recited the memory verse by themselves an opportunity to recite the verse to earn a special prize.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

Before heading to Large Group, hand each child his or her movie ticket coloring page.

YOU CONNECT

WHAT IS YOU CONNECT?
You Connect is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

I PICK JESUS
SNACK ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
per child: bag of jelly beans; spinner, leader sheet, bag of yellow jelly beans, bag of popcorn jelly beans, food prep glove

Jesus makes me (thumbs to chest)
God’s friend (point up)
because I believe (hand over heart)
He lives again! (fist pump)

SAY: Great job! Today we are learning we choose God’s grace when we pick Jesus as our leader. When we pick Jesus as our leader, we choose to follow Him.

PLACE the spinner in the center of the circle. EXPLAIN children SPIN the spinner and PICK an action to complete. Each time the child answers a question, completes a challenge, or says the main point or memory verse, the child can PICK one jelly bean out of his or her bag to eat.

CHOOSE one child to SPIN the spinner. USE the leader sheet to ask the child a question or give a challenge. The child will PICK an option to complete. If a child spins and lands on yellow, the child will PICK a flavor of jelly bean for each child in the group to receive. USE the food prep glove to give each child one yellow or one popcorn flavored jelly bean.

CONTINUE playing until each child has had a turn to SPIN the spinner. SAY: When we follow Jesus, we PICK Him as our leader! PRAY before eating the rest of the snack.

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for our snack.
Help us to follow You
