KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
KID CONNECT is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with your eGroup and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

QUEST COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, coloring page, die
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

Extension Activities

    • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
    • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the coloring pages and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

KID CONNECT

QUEST ANIMAL MEMORY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory cards, die
What you do: Lay the memory cards facedown in the center of the group.
What you say: “We’re going to see who has the best memory while we try to find matches for all of our Quest animal friends!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Each child gets to turn over two memory cards and keep them if the picture matches. If a player turns over two cards which do not match, those cards are turned facedown again. It becomes the next child’s turn whether the pictures do or do not match. Play as time allows or until all matches are found.

Extension Activities

  • Use the die to determine the number of cards each child will turn over on his or her turn.
  • On their turn, each child will roll the die to determine how many cards to turn over.

KID CONNECT

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup area.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage children to put on their listening ears so they can follow your directions and blast off together!

GET TO KNOW YOU

ONCE THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS
(5:00, 9:30, 11:30)

WOULD YOU RATHER…

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: die, leader card, Quest animal stickers
What you say: “We’re blasting off with exciting stories and fantastic adventures as we discover how God made us, God loves us, and Jesus wants to be our friend forever!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Roll the die and introduce yourself. Read the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and share your answer with the eGroup. Encourage each child to roll the die, introduce themselves, and answer the corresponding question.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to blast off into our Bible story and hear something exciting that God wants to teach us today!”

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

BIBLE CONNECT is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

GOD MADE MAN

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, space stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story on pages 22-25 from the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a space sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “Did God make a man before or after He made the animals?” (after)
  2. “What did God name the man?” (Adam)
  3. “God gave Adam a job. What did He want Adam to name?” (all of the animals)
  4. “God didn’t want Adam to be alone. Who did He make for Adam to love?” (a woman named Eve)
  5. “What did God want Adam and Eve to take care of?” (the animals, birds, and everything He created)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “God made Adam and Eve and every person who has ever lived! If God made every person, that means God made me and God made YOU! God made you in a special way. And because God made you, He loves you very much!”

BIBLE CONNECT

What you say: “I am going to say our new memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Great job! I think you’re ready to say our verse in some silly voices now.”

  • “Say the verse in a loud voice, like you’re trying to yell to outer space!”
  • “Say the verse in a silly space alien voice!”
  • “Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re standing on the moon where there’s no sound!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Good job! Our memory verse tells us that not matter what we do, God will ALWAYS love us! ALWAYS! God loves us sooo much!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me! (Lead children in saying the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now stand up and follow me around the rug again!”

YOU CONNECT

YOU CONNECT is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

SELF PORTRAIT

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Make Your Face pages, face stickers, crayons
What you do: Give each child a Make Your Face page. Spread the face sticker sheets around the center of the group. Place the crayons in the center as well.
What you say: “Today we are learning God made me, and God made people. When God made each of us, He made us different and special! Today we’re going to create a self-portrait. That means you are going to make your own face! We can see how God made each of us in a special way.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show children how to peel off only the stickers they need and stick them on the right part of the face. Encourage children to choose the stickers that look most like the parts on their face and use the crayons to color hair on the picture that looks like their hair.

What you say: “There are so many different colors and kinds of eyes, ears, noses, and mouths! Try to find the parts that look the most like the ones on your face and then stick them on your picture. If you don’t see a part that looks quite right, you can use the crayons to draw it on your picture. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Wow! These look so great. Quick, everyone, hold up your beautiful creations for all of us to see. Look around at all these faces. No two faces are alike! I love that. Do you know who made your beautiful face? We learned today in our Bible story that God loves you because God made you.”
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the self portraits and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the Worship Experience.

JOURNAL / COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: journal, pen, collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “Today we learned God made us and He loves us! Now it’s time to write in our eGroup prayer journal and pray together.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your journal and pen. Draw a big heart at the top of the page. Write each child’s name or let children write their names under the heart. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Today I’m drawing a big heart at the top of the page. This heart is a picture of God’s big love for you and me. Now I need each of your names on the page under the heart so I can use this list to pray for you! If you can write your name, I’ll let you write your name yourself. If you can’t write your name yet, you can help me spell your name as I write it on the page for you!

Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You that we don’t have to do anything to make You love us. Thank You for loving us because You made us. Thank You for loving me and (name each child) and that nothing will ever separate us from Your love. I hope we always remember that we are special because You made us, and we are loved because You made us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
