KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

Quest candy coloring page, crayons. dice

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a Quest candy coloring page. INSTRUCT children to color their coloring page. As children color, talk about the picture they are coloring:

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES
• Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
• Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
• Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! 1. Who sent an angel to give Mary some very good news? (God)
  2. What good news did the angel tell Mary? (She would have a baby and should name him Jesus. He is God’s son.)
  3. Who did Mary tell her good news to? (Elizabeth)
  4. Who was Joseph? (Mary’s husband)
  5. How did Joseph learn about the good news? (God sent an angel to tell him.)

SAY: God sending Jesus to be our Savior is GOOD NEWS! We can share the good news with everyone we meet! Repeat our main point after me:

MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
number die, Goody Gumdrops

SAY: While playing the Goody Goody Gumdrops game we are learning a memory verse to help us win! It says:

Everyone who is (spread arms up and out)
a child of God (point to others)
has the power (show muscles one at a time)
to win. (cheer)

1 John 5:4 (ERV)

SAY: Knowing this verse helps us remember how we WIN when we believe in Jesus and obey Him!

Practice the memory verse a few times.

ROLL the die. Start with the child to your left and COUNT out the number rolled. The child who you STOP counting on will stand up. This child will SEE the color rolled and CHOSE a child wearing the same color rolled to RECITE the verse with him or her. The partners will SAY the memory verse together.

REPEAT a few rounds until all children have recited the memory verse.

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a Goody Gumdrop for their candy jar! ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves a Goody Gumdrop.

THE SOUND OF GOOD NEWS
APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
jingle bells (1 per child)

SAY: In the Bible story Grandma Ginger shared with us, who was excited to hear the GOOD NEWS that Jesus was going to be born? (Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth) Jesus being born is the best news of all! Let’s celebrate this GOOD NEWS!

GIVE each child a jingle bell. ENCOURAGE children to CELEBRATE the good news that Jesus is born by RINGING their jingle bells!

SAY: Great job celebrating! Now, let’s all be extra quiet. Put your jingle bell in your lap and your hands over your mouth. Jesus being born is the best news, but we hear other good news each day. Let’s celebrate all the good news we hear.

EXPLAIN you will READ different situations. If it sounds like good news children will SHAKE their jingle bell high in the air like the are really excited. If it sounds like sad news, children will PUT their jingle bell in their lap with their hands over their mouth to be extra quiet.

READ the following situations and ENCOURAGE children to SHAKE their jingle bell or PUT it in their lap:

  • Your mom came to wake you up in the morning and said you get to play at your best friend’s house today!
  • After school, your neighbor stopped by your house and gave you some yummy cookies she just baked.
  • You were supposed to go have a picnic lunch at the park, but it started raining right before lunch.
  • Your friend invited you to come to his birthday party where there would be a big bouncy house and lots of fun games. Your mom said you could go!
  • You got to school and found out your friend is sick and won’t be at school today.
  • Last week, you lost your favorite stuffed animal, but today you found it behind your bed.

SAY: It’s fun to hear and celebrate good news. But the best news is that Jesus is born! Let’s say our main point together while shaking your jingle bells:

I (point to self)
have heard (cup hand behind ear)
the good news! (two thumbs up)
