KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

QUEST CINEMAS CASH
COLORING ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME

SUPPLIES
Quest Cinemas Cash (1 per child), crayons

WELCOME children to your group. Let them know how happy you are they are in Quest and how much fun we are going to have today!SAY: Today we are headed to Quest Cinemas to learn how we can we give thanks! But before we head to the theater to see today’s movie, we need some Quest Cinemas Cash!PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child one piece of Quest Cinemas Cash. INSTRUCT children to color their cash . As children color, talk about the picture they are coloring:
•What snacks does a movie concession stand sell?
•What would you buy at the Quest Cinemas Concession Stand with your Quest Cinemas Cash?
•What is your favorite movie snack?
•What is your favorite movie?
•Who do you like going to the movies with?

CONTINUE
 until the Quest Cinemas Cash is colored or as time allows.EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

•Use the color spinner to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10 30 seconds to color using this color. Spin the spinner again and switch crayon colors.
• Use the number spinner to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then spin the spinner again.
• Have children take turns spinning the spinner. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

GAME ACTIVITY

Quest Cinemas Cash, spinner, car stickers (4 colors), movie tickets

NOTE: The Let’s Take A Spin game board is on the bottom of the Quest Cinemas Cash coloring page, used during the Quest Cinemas Cash activity.

ASK: When you go to the movies, what do you need to buy a ticket and movie snack? ALLOW children to respond.

SAY: Wave your Quest Cinemas Cash in the air. ENCOURAGE children to WAVE their cash. SAY: You have some Quest Cinemas Cash and are now ready to head to the theater to watch a movie! Let’s get in our cars and tack a spin to see who can get to the theater first!

POINT to all the purple game board on the bottom of the Quest Cinemas Cash. EXPLAIN children will try to be the first to collect 10 car stickers, one for each space on their game board.

Children will take turns SPINNING the spinner and COLLECTING the corresponding number and color of car stickers. ENCOURAGE children to PUT one sticker on each spot on the game board.

ALLOW children to take turns SPINNING the spinner and collecting car stickers.

To win the game, a child needs to have 10 car stickers on their game board.

CONTINUE until one child has a full game board! GIVE a movie ticket to the first child to collect 10 car stickers!

MOVIE MEMORY
GAME ACTIVITY

Movie Memory cards (2 sets- each set has 11 pairs)

LAY the Movie Memory cards facedown in the center of the circle.EXPLAIN children are going to play Movie Memory and try to find matching movie posters. SAY: Everyone make a sad face. One of the not so fun parts about going to a movie theater is waiting in line to buy a ticket or snack from the concession stand. HOLD UP a movie theater line card and SAY: During our game, if you flip over a movie theater line card, we’ll have to pretend like we are standing in line at the movies!If a child FLIPS OVER a movie theater line card, the entire eGroup must STAND UP, like they are waiting in a movie line. REMOVE this movie theater line card from the game and continue the game with the entire group standing. The eGroup must STAND until another movie theater line card is FLIPPED OVER and will then have a seat. Each time a movie theater line card is found, REMOVE it from the game.PLAY Movie Memory. Each child gets to turn over two memory cards and keep the memory cards if the pictures match. If a player turns over two cards which do not match, those cards are turned facedown again. It becomes the next child’s turn whether the pictures do or do not match.
PLAY as time allows or until all matches are found.

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

Today we are heading to Quest Cinemas to go on a Bible Adventure! We will discover new things in the Bible, learn our memory verse, pray and talk to God, and sing songs to God.

SHOW
 children the spinner. SPIN the spinner and introduce yourself. READ aloud a question from the leader sheet corresponding to the color spun and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.

CHOOSE 
one child to SPIN the spinner and have the child SHARE his or her name. READ aloud a corresponding question from the leader sheet and have the child answer the question. PASS the spinner to the next child. CONTINUE for each child.AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have fun in the castle. The rules to follow are:
  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)


SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible! SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 152-155 from The Beginner’s Bible.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child a movie ticket.

1. Naomi had a family. What happened to her husband and sons? (They died.)
2. What was the name of the women married to one of Naomi’s sons? (Ruth)
3. When Naomi decided to go back to her homeland, what did she tell Ruth to do? (Go back to her parents.)
4. What did Ruth do? (She stayed with Naomi.)
5. How did Ruth help Naomi? (She gathered food for them to eat.)
SAY: Ruth loved Naomi and showed how much she cared for her with her ACTIONS! Ruth stayed with Naomi and gathered food for them to eat. Ruth was thankful for Naomi. We can be like Ruth and give thanks with our ACTIONS, too! Repeat our main point after me:

I can give thanks (point to self)

MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SAY: During our time at Quest Cinemas we have a new memory verse to learn. It says:

And whatever you do (point out)

SAY: Knowing this verse helps us remember to be thankful to God by giving thanks in everything we say and do! 
Some of you have been working hard to learn this verse. Would anyone like to try and recite the verse by themselves

ALLOW children to take turns reciting the verse by themselves. If a child can recite the memory verse PLACE a memory verse sticker on the child’s shirt. RECORD the child’s first and last name on the memory verse sheet.

PRACTICE the memory verse. Do the motions and say the verse together a few times. PLACE the star sunglasses in the center of the group. When you SAY: Movie stars! each child will race to GRAB a pair of star sunglasses to.

PLACE on his or her face. Once all children are wearing sunglasses, SPIN the spinner. SAY: Movie stars wearing [insert spinner color] sunglasses stand up! These children will REPEAT the memory verse after you.

Have children SIT DOWN and all children will RETURN the sunglasses to the center. REPEAT for a few rounds until all children have recited the memory verse.

BEFORE heading to free play, GIVE any child who has not recited the memory verse by themselves an opportunity to recite the verse to earn their own pair of movie star glasses

SAY:During our Movie of the Day at Quest Cinemas, why did Elmo give Rosita a present? (Just because she was a good friend.) How did Rosita react to receiving the present? (She was surprised and very happy.)

SAY: Elmo used his ACTIONS to give thanks to Rosita for being his friend. When someone uses their ACTIONS to give you a present, show me how you react. ENCOURAGE children to SHOW you their reactions.

EXPLAIN children are going to REACT to different actions we can do to give thanks. HOLD UP and REVIEW each reACTION card. Have children PRACTICE making the face on each reACTION card. PLACE the reACTION cards in the center of the circle, face up, for children to reference during the activity.

READ a question from an action card and ENCOURAGE children to react with one of the faces on the reACTION cards. DISCUSS the action card.

CHOOSE another action card to READCONTINUE until all action cards have been READ and DISCUSSED.

SAY: We can show others how thankful we are for them with our ACTIONS! When we give thanks with our ACTIONS, it shows others we care! If you can use your ACTIONS to give thanks, let’s say our main point together:

HOLD UP a Quest Cinemas movie poster and SAY: Each weekend you visit Quest Cinemas you can collect another movie poster. The movie posters will help you remember to give thanks and worship God!

To receive today’s movie poster, children will have to Remember, Think, and Follow! SAY: Let’s REMEMBER … who were the people in our Bible story today? (Jesus and the disciples) Let’s THINK … how did Jesus serve his disciples? (He washed their feet.) Yes! By serving the disciples Jesus showed he loved them and was thankful for them. If you can FOLLOW in Jesus’ example, let’s say our main point together:

SAY: In our movie, did Rubble show he was thankful to Ryder and Paw Patrol with his SERVICE? ALLOW children to respond.SAY: Yes, Rubble served others to show he was thankful. READ the text below the movie screen from the My Movie Poster.GIVE each child a Rubble sticker to place on their My Movie Poster and ALLOW children to color their poster.

Take your movie poster home and hang it in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned we can give thanks with our SERVICE! Let’s say our main point together:

LAY the Movie Memory cards FACE UP in the center of the eGroup. CHOOSE a movie character or movie from one of the Movie Memory cards. DO NOT let your eGroup know which card you chose.DESCRIBE the chosen card; characters by how they look (fuzzy, tall, wears glasses, etc) and movies by the storyline or what the movie poster looks like.When children think they know which card you are talking about, have them raise their hand and call on a child to answer. Once a child has guessed correctly, SAY: Great job! ALLOW the child to CHOOSE a card and DESCRIBE the card to the eGroup, ENCOURAGING children to GUESS.CONTINUE for the remaining cards.
