KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

  • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.

WHAT I LOVE

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

Jesus loves everyone! His love is huge and will never fail; it is always there. And Jesus wants us to love everyone, too. He taught us how we should treat others by the way He loved everyone. Not only that, Jesus wants us to tell other He loves them. He wants us to go and tell about His GREAT love for everyone!

SAY: I love Jesus and telling others about Jesus! Let’s tell each other some other things we love.

LAY the memory cards facedown in the center of the group. CHOOSE one memory card and introduce yourself. READ aloud this question, “Name one thing you love that is [insert animal color from memory card]. and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.

Each child will CHOOSE one memory card and SHARE his or her name. ASK each child this question: Name one thing you love that is [insert animal color from memory card]. and have children answer the question.

CONTINUE for each child.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
A (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
Be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .

Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

THE UNLOVED WOMAN
BIBLE STORY

SUGGESTED TIME
8 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Bible Story cards, heart stamp

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story using the Bible story cards.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child a heart stamp.

  1. Who were the men angry at? (a woman)
  2. Why were they angry at her? (She had done a lot of bad things.)
  3. Who did they bring her to so she could be punished? (Jesus)
  4. Did the woman think anyone wanted to be her friend? (no)
  5. Who saved the woman from the angry men? (Jesus)

SAY: Jesus didn’t like that the woman had done bad things, but it didn’t change how much He loved her! The same is true for us – no matter what we do, where we go, or what happens to us, Jesus will always love us, no matter what! Say our main point with me:

Jesus (point up)
loves everyone
(hug self)
no matter what!
(two thumbs up)

BUCKET OF LOVE
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
bucket, heart cards, memory verse heart

SAY: This month we’re learning Jesus loves everyone! Since Jesus loves everyone, we should love everyone, too! Our Bible verse says:

Love each other (hug self)
as I (point up)
have loved you. (point out)
John 15:12 (open hands like book)

Practice the memory verse a few times.

PLACE the bucket filled with heart cards in the center of the group. ALLOW each child to CHOOSE one heart card from the bucket. After all children have a heart card, CHOOSE children to RECITE the verse based in the following statements:

Stand up and say our verse if …

  • your heart is your favorite color.
  • your heart has [insert color: yellow, pink, purple, blue] in it.
  • you can balance your heart card on the tip of your finger.
  • you are wearing a color on your heart.

After children have RECITED the verse, any children with matching heart cards should SWAP seats. If no one has a heart card like theirs, the child will REMAIN in the same spot. Have children SIT DOWN and all children will RETURN the heart cards to the bucket. REPEAT for a few rounds until all children have recited the memory verse.

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a heart for their Buckets of Love poster.  ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves a heart.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

EXPLAIN child will think about some times when we might feel bad about something, but remember Jesus still loves us! ENCOURAGE children to stand up. ASK a child to ROLL the die. READ the situations below and ENCOURAGE children to complete each action. For each situation, SAY: [INSERT action based on color rolled] [INSERT the number on the die] times if you think Jesus loves you even when you …

  • lose your favorite toy.
  • move far away from all of your friends.
  • disobey your parents.
  • fall and scrape your knees.
  • feel afraid because you heard a scary noise.
  • accidentally spill your dinner plate on the floor.
