KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

Not only that, Jesus wants us to tell other He loves them. He wants us to go and tell about His GREAT love for everyone!

LAY the memory cards facedown in the center of the group. CHOOSE one memory card and introduce yourself. READ aloud this question, “Name one thing you love that is [insert animal color from memory card]. and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.

Each child will CHOOSE one memory card and SHARE his or her name. ASK each child this question: Name one thing you love that is [insert animal color from memory card]. and have children answer the question.

CONTINUE for each child.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
A (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
Be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .

Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

THE WOMAN AT THE WELL
BIBLE STORY

SUGGESTED TIME
8 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
God’s Story for Me Bible, heart stamp

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 314-319 from the God’s Story For Me Bible.

SAY: I love that Jesus took the time to talk to this woman! Jesus and this woman were from different places. People from their different countries did not usually talk to each other. But Jesus didn’t care that they were different. Because He took the time to talk to her, she was able to tell other people about Jesus.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child a heart stamp. STAMP hearts only on hands or a child’s coloring page.

  1. How was Jesus feeling after walking for so long? (Hot, hungry, and tired.)
  2. Where did He find water? (in a well)
  3. Who did Jesus ask for help? (a woman)
  4. Was the woman surprised or angry Jesus talked to her? (surprised)
  5. Were Jesus and the woman the same or different(different)

SAY: Jesus and the woman were different, but Jesus was kind to her and He loved her! Jesus loves everyone, even though we are different. Repeat our main point after me:

Jesus(point up)
loves everyone (hug self)
even though we’re different! (high five a friend)

BUCKET OF LOVE
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
bucket, heart cards, memory verse heart

SAY: This month we’re learning Jesus loves everyone! Since Jesus loves everyone, we should love everyone, too! Our new Bible verse helps remind us to love everyone. It says:

Love each other (hug self)
as I (point up)
have loved you. (point out)
John 15:12 (open hands like book)

Practice the memory verse a few times.

PLACE the bucket filled with heart cards in the center of the group. ALLOW each child to CHOOSE one heart card from the bucket. After all children have a heart card, CHOOSE children to RECITE the verse based in the following statements:

Stand up and say our verse if …

  • your heart is your favorite color.
  • your heart has [insert color: yellow, pink, purple, blue] in it.
  • you can balance your heart card on the tip of your finger.
  • you are wearing a color on your heart.

After children have RECITED the verse, any children with matching heart cards should SWAP seats. If no one has a heart card like theirs, the child will REMAIN in the same spot. Have children SIT DOWN and all children will RETURN the heart cards to the bucket. REPEAT for a few rounds until all children have recited the memory verse.

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a heart for their Buckets of Love poster.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

CELEBRATING OUR DIFFERENCES
APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Sharpie marker, World Character map, heart clappers, leader sheet

NOTE: Before beginning the activity, Write all children’s names on their clappers with the Sharpie marker.

PLACE the World Character Map in the center of the group.

SAY: We’re learning Jesus loves everyone even though we’re different! Look at the children on this map. Do all of these children look and dress the same as you? (No.) That’s right; these children live in different places and might look or dress differently than us, but even though we’re different, Jesus loves us all the same!

SAY: Let’s use our heart clappers to help us learn who Jesus loves. Everyone shake your heart clappers together! ENCOURAGE children to SHAKE their heart clappers.

SAY: Great job! When you know which child on our map I’m describing, shake your clappers just like that. Now let’s all be extra quiet by putting our clappers in our laps and putting our hands over our mouth so everyone can hear the clues!

One at a time, READ the clues from the leader sheet for each character. Once all children are SHAKING their clappers, STOP reading the clues and CHOOSE one child to use their clapper to point to the character on the map being described. READ the situation for that character from the leader sheet. CONTINUE until all characters have been discussed.

SAY: Great job, everyone! I love celebrating all the ways we are different. We are all different, but Jesus loves us all! Let’s say our main point together:

Jesus (point up)
loves everyone (spread arms wide)
even though we’re different! (high five a friend)

SAY: Great job! Now I need everyone to put your clapper on the floor behind your back until we are ready to use them again! ENCOURAGE children to place their clapper behind their back.

Let’s see if we can learn ten special things about Elevation and celebrate Elevation turning ten years old!
