KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

QUEST COLORING PAGE
COLORING ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Quest coloring page, crayons, die

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a coloring page. Be sure to give out the engine coloring page and the caboose coloring page first, then give out the remaining train car coloring pages.

INSTRUCT children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did that day.

Once most children have completed their coloring page, ENCOURAGE children to line up their coloring pages to form a train. The engine coloring page should go at the front of the train and the caboose coloring page should go at the other end. All other train car coloring pages will be in the middle.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • Have each child sit behind their picture. Stand at the engine and ask the child behind that picture to tell what animal is in their train car. Encourage the whole eGroup to make the noise that animal would make. Repeat for each animal in the train as you work your way to the caboose.
  • Encourage children to put the animals in order from smallest to largest between the engine and the caboose.
  • For older children: Encourage children to put the animals in alphabetical order between the engine and the caboose.

TRAIN RACE
GAME ACTIVITY
SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES
SUPPLIES
Game board, train pieces, die
GIVE each child a game board and ALLOW each child to CHOOSE a train piece.

EXPLAIN children have different game boards, but they all have the same goal – to get their train to Creation Station!

ASK each child to place their train piece on their Quest Train Station. ROLL the die. INSTRUCT all children to move their train pieces on their game boards according to the chart.

Once all children have moved, SAY:

  • If you are on a GREEN space, move forward one space.
  • If you are on a YELLOW space, move backward one space.
  • If you are on a RED space, you will lose one turn while your train rests at the train stop.

CONTINUE until a child reaches Creation Station on their game board.

KID CONNECT

CONDUCTOR SAYS
GAME ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
5-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Conductor Says cards (10), die

EXPLAIN children will be playing a game like “Simon Says”. The Conductor (eGroup Leader) will choose actions for the group to perform. The other children should only complete an action if the Conductor says, “Conductor says …” before the action. If children complete the action when the Conductor did not say “Conductor says …” they have to sit out for one turn at the train stop (in the middle of the rug) for one round.

ENCOURAGE children to stand up and create a wide circle around the rug. CHOOSE a card and roll the die. INSERT the action from the card and the number from the die into the following statement: CONDUCTOR SAYS [action] [number] times! ENCOURAGE the group to complete the action.

REPEAT. Every two or three cards, READ the action statement without saying “Conductor Says.” Any children who complete the action will rest at the “train stop”for one round.

GET TO KNOW YOU

ONCE THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS
(5:00, 9:30, 11:30)

IF YOU WERE THE CONDUCTOR

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Die, leader card, Quest animal sticker

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

At Creation Station, we’ll make discoveries and learn about the world around us and that God made everything – the sun, moon, stars, planets, clouds, rain, oceans, animals, flowers, you, me … everything!

ROLL the die and INTRODUCE yourself. READ the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.

ENCOURAGE each child to ROLL the die, introduce themselves, and ANSWER the corresponding question.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

CREATION DAY 4 : SUN, MOON, AND STARS
BIBLE STORY

SUGGESTED TIME
8 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
The Beginner’s Bible, train stickers

TELL the children we can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!

SAY: We’re going to read the whole story of how God created the world. Today, we’re going to learn about day four of creation. Everybody hold up four fingers! LEAD children in holding up four fingers. Be sure to listen extra carefully when I read about the fourth day!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story on pages 7-13 from The Beginner’s Bible.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question correctly, GIVE the child a train sticker.

  1. On day four, what did God create? (the sun, moon, and stars)
  2. Where did He put the sun, moon, and stars? (in the sky)
  3. Which one did He put in the sky for daytime? (sun)
  4. Which ones did He put in the sky for nighttime? (moon and stars)
  5. Did God create just one star or did He create lots of stars? (lots of stars)

SAY: God is so big and so powerful! On day four of creation, He created the sun, moon, and stars and put them in the sky so we can have lots of light in the day and just a little bit of light at night. Repeat our main point after me:

God made (point up)
the sun, (hold up left hand)
moon, (hold up right hand)
and stars! (hold up both hands)

FREEZE!
MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
playlist (download on your electronic device), memory verse train

SAY: This month we are learning how God created everything in the whole world. Our Bible verse says:

You (point up)
made (fist on top of fist)
the world (form a circle with arms over head)
and everything in it. (spread arms wide)
Psalm 89:11 (NCV) (open hands like a book)

PRACTICE the memory verse together a few times.

EXPLAIN when you PLAY music, the children should dance around the eGroup area. When the music STOPS, everyone will FREEZE in one of three poses. Children will be chosen to say the verse based on their pose.

SAY: Today we are learning how God created the sun, moon, and stars. When the music stops, you get to freeze as the sun, moon, or stars. If you choose to be the sun, make a big circle over your head with your arms. Everybody try that with me now. ALLOW children to try the “sun” pose. If you choose to be the moon, lay down on the floor like you’re sleeping. ALLOW children to try the “moon” pose. If you choose to be a star, stand with your legs spread apart and both arms open wide. ALLOW children to try the “star” pose.

PLAY the Freeze! playlist from your electronic device. This is the ONLY approved playlist – please do not play any personal music. ENCOURAGE children to dance. After 10-15 seconds, STOP the music and SAY: FREEZE! REMIND children to strike a pose representing either the sun, moon, or stars. ASK all children who chose the sun or moon to sit quietly while the children who chose stars say the verse together. REPEAT the activity several times, alternating which group (sun, moon, or stars) says the verse each time.

EXPLAIN to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse train car for their All Aboard poster! ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse train car. MARK the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

YOU CONNECT

WHAT IS YOU CONNECT?
You Connect is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

DAYTIME/NIGHTTIME
APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
no supplies

SAY: God created the sun to give us lots of bright light during the day. When the sun is out, we know it’s daytime! He also created the moon and stars to give us just a little bit of light at night, kind of like night lights in the sky. When the moon and stars are out, it’s nighttime! Both daytime and nighttime are important, so God created different lights to help us know the difference.

EXPLAIN when you describe something we do during the day when the sun is shining, children should jump up and down in place. When you describe something we do during the night when the moon and stars are out, children should lie down on the floor and pretend to sleep.

CALL OUT the scenarios listed below one at a time. ENCOURAGE children to JUMP in place if you say something that relates to daytime or LIE DOWN and pretend to sleep if it relates to nighttime.

  • going to the playground
  • eating at a restaurant
  • riding your bike
  • counting stars
  • picking flowers
  • building a block tower
  • dreaming
  • going to the grocery store
  • coloring
  • watching fireworks

SAY: There are so many reasons we need both day and night, so God created the sun, moon, and stars to help separate them! Let’s say our main point together:

God made (point up)
the sun, (hold up left hand)
moon, (hold up right hand)
and stars! (hold up both hands)

MOON PIE ART
GAME ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
7-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES:
game boards, mini moon pies, die, crayons, edible markers (5)

SAY: On day four, God created the sun, moon, and stars. Now you get to create a picture of the sun, moon, or stars by drawing on your snack!

GIVE each child a game board and a moon pie. HELP children unwrap their moon pies as needed, but INSTRUCT children not to eat their moon pies yet. TELL children to place their moon pies on the free space in the center of the game board. PUT the crayons in the middle of the eGroup.

EXPLAIN you will tell children what to COLOR on their game board. Once children COLOR three pictures in a row, they can take a turn with the special markers to color on their moon pie. Children can COLOR three consecutive pictures in any direction (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) on the game board to get a turn with a marker.

ROLL the die and use the chart below to TELL children which picture on their game board to color with the crayons. REPEAT until a child has colored three in a row. Once a child has colored three pictures in a row, GIVE the child an edible marker and TELL them to draw their favorite thing God created on day four on the top of their moon pie. CONTINUE until all children have had a turn with an edible marker.

SAY: Because God created the sun, moon, and stars, we have just the right amount of light for daytime and nighttime! Let’s pray and thank God for what He created before we eat our snack.

ENCOURAGE children to BOW their heads, CLOSE their eyes, and REPEAT the prayer after you:

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for our yummy snack.
Thank You for creating
the sun, moon, and stars
and everything in our world!
We love You!
Amen.

EAT the snack and clean up the eGroup area.

To receive today’s main point train car, children will have to Remember, Think, and Follow! SAY: Let’s REMEMBER … What did God create in today’s Bible story? (the sun, moon, and stars) Let’s THINK … Did God create the sun, moon, and stars on day two or day four? (day four) God created the sun, moon, stars, and so many other amazing things! Because God made everything, we should thank Him for what He’s created! What will you thank God for today? (the sun, moon, and stars) Let’s say our main point together:
