WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

PLACE crayons in the center of the circle and GIVE each child a Quest coloring page. INSTRUCT children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did that day.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using the color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
  • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

SAY: Pat your knees if you’ve ever been to an Easter egg hunt. ALLOW children to PAT their  knees. Our friend Red Rabbit loves Easter egg hunts, so we’re going to read a book about a time when all of our Quest animal friends went to an Easter egg hunt together! While I read, I want you to help me find all of the Easter eggs. When you see an Easter egg, I want you to put one hand over your mouth to help you stay quiet and use the other hand to point to the egg! 

READ the book aloud. Each time children find an egg, CHOOSE a child to POINT to the egg in the book.

LAY the memory cards facedown in the center of the group.

PLAY Animal Memory. Each child gets to turn over two memory cards and keep them if the picture matches. If a player turns over two cards which do not match, those cards are turned facedown again. It becomes the next child’s turn whether the pictures do or do not match.

PLAY as time allows or until all matches are found.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES

  • GROUP: Use the die to determine the  the number of cards each child will turn over on his or her turn.
  • INDIVIDUAL: On their turn, each child will roll the die to determine how many cards to turn over.

SAY: At Wonder! Clubhouse we’ve been learning Jesus is the best leader to follow, so we can follow Jesus and tell everyone He loves them! Today we are celebrating Easter at the Red Rabbit Easter Party. It’s going to be so much fun learning about Jesus and finding Easter eggs, but first lets get to know each other!

EXPLAIN children will PASS the egg around the circle. When you say, “What I love!” children will stop passing the egg. The child HOLDING the egg will STAND UP, SAY their name, and TELL the group one thing they love about Easter.

GIVE the egg to a child and ENCOURAGE the children to PASS the egg around the circle. After several children have passed the egg, SAY, What I love!” and ASK the child holding the egg to STAND UP, SAY their name, and SHARE what they love about Easter. CONTINUE until all children have introduced themselves.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 409-414 from the God’s Story For Me Bible.

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible!

SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 425-430 from the God’s Story For Me Bible.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child an egg sticker.

  1. Did Jesus let the angry people take Him and kill Him, or did He try to get away? (He let them.)
  2. How did Jesus’ friends feel after He died? (sad and scared)
  3. Where did Jesus’ friends put His body? (in a tomb)
  4. What did soldiers put in front of the door to the tomb? (a huge stone)
  5. How many days passed before Mary found the empty tomb? (three)
  6. What good news did Mary run to tell everyone? (Jesus is alive!)

SAY: Jesus let Himself be killed because it was the only way He could save us. Three days later, He rose from the dead. Jesus is alive! He loves us more than anyone and wants to be our friend forever. Say our main point with me:

RED RABBIT VERSE REVIEW

Red Rabbit hat, red crayons, Sharpie marker, tape, memory verse eggs

SAY: Today is a very special day in Wonder! Clubhouse! It’s Red Rabbit’s Easter Party and we’re celebrating Easter together! Our friend Red Rabbit has some really fun surprises planned for our celebration. It isn’t a party without a party hat, so Red Rabbit has a pair of Red Rabbit ears for each of you to wear!

GIVE each child a Red Rabbit hat and a red crayon. ENCOURAGE children to color their Red Rabbit hat. As children color, use the Sharpie marker to WRITE children’s names on their Red Rabbit hat. After all children have colored their Red Rabbit hat, COLLECT the crayons. HELP children put on their Red Rabbit hats. USE the tape as needed to secure the two ends of the hat together.

SAY: Now that everyone looks ready for our Red Rabbit Easter party, let’s practice our memory verse together! Our Bible verse for this month reminds us to always follow Jesus. It says:

‘Come (spread arms wide)
and follow me,’ (march in place)
Jesus said. (cup hands around mouth)
Matthew 4:19 (open hands like a book)

PRACTICE the memory verse together a few times. CHOOSE Red Rabbits to recite the memory verse based on the following Red Rabbit statements.

SAY: Recite our memory verse if you are a Red Rabbit who…

      • likes to move around very quietly
      • can hop really fast
      • likes to eat carrots
      • has on their Red Rabbit ears

EXPLAIN to the group today is the last day they can recite the verse to earn an egg for their poster! ALLOW children an opportunity to RECITE the verse by themselves. GIVE any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse egg.

HEAD TO FREE PLAY, THEN LARGE GROUP.

SAY: In large group, Red Rabbit gave us an Easter basket and an egg with a clue in it! Let’s read our first clue together!

READ the clue inside Clue Egg #1 aloud and ALLOW the group to DISCUSS what they think the surprise could be. PLACE the clue back inside the egg and the egg in the Easter basket.

SAY: You made some great guesses, but we’re going to need more clues to figure out what the surprise is! To earn another clue egg, we’re going to go on an egg hunt and think about what makes Jesus the greatest friend ever!

LAY OUT the activity cards face down and SHOW children the egg hunt egg. EXPLAIN children will take turns guessing which card the egg is hidden under.

ASK children to close their eyes. HIDE the egg under one of the activity cards. TELL children to open their eyes and ASK a child to guess which activity card the egg is under. If the child guesses correctly, READ the back of the activity card. If the child guesses incorrectly, ASK the next child to guess. Once an activity card has been read, SET the card aside. CONTINUE until the egg has been found under each card and all cards have been READ.

SAY: Not only is Jesus the best friend we could ever have, He wants to be our friend forever! Let’s say our main point together.

SAY: You all did such a great job with that activity we’ve earned another egg! 

COLLECT Clue Egg #2 from your eTeam Leader. READ the clue inside Clue Egg #2 aloud to the children and ALLOW the group to DISCUSS what they think the surprise could be. PLACE the clue back inside the egg and the egg in the Easter basket.

WHERE’S RED RABBIT?
GAME ACTIVITY

game eggs, Clue egg #3, Easter basket, snack bag, cup, Chedder Bunnies

SAY: It has been so much fun celebrating Easter today with all of you and with our friend Red Rabbit! We need one more clue to help us figure out what our surprise from Red Rabbit is, so we’re going to play a game that will help us earn our last egg!

SHUFFLE the game eggs and LAY them out on the floor. DIVIDE the children into two teams.

EXPLAIN teams will take turns choosing one game egg to turn over. Most of the game eggs have an action to complete from Red Rabbit, but four special game eggs have a picture of Red Rabbit on them. The first team to FIND three game eggs with Red Rabbit wins! If each team ends up with two game eggs with Red Rabbit, you will choose the group who participated best as the winner!

CHOOSE a child from the first team to pick a game egg. If the child picks a game egg with an action, READ the back of the game egg aloud and ENCOURAGE children to respond. If the child picks a game egg with Red Rabbit, GIVE the game egg to that team. CHOOSE a child from the second team and REPEAT. CONTINUE until one team has three game eggs with Red Rabbit. If each team has two, ANNOUNCE the team with the best participation as the winner.

SAY: Since you all did such a great job in our game, we’ve earned our last egg from Red Rabbit! We can use this clue to help us figure out what our special surprise is!

COLLECT Clue Egg #3 from your eTeam Leader. READ the clue inside Clue Egg #3 aloud to the children and ALLOW the group to DISCUSS what they think the surprise could be. PLACE the clue back inside the egg and the egg in the Easter basket.

SAY: Pat your knees as fast as you can to make a drumroll sound! LEAD children in patting a drumroll on their knees. Our special surprise is… cheddar bunnies! Before we eat our special snack from Red Rabbit, let’s pray to thank Jesus for the snack and our time together.

ENCOURAGE children to BOW their heads, CLOSE their eyes, and REPEAT the prayer after you:

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for our yummy snack.
Thank you for dying for us
so that you could save us,
and for being our friend forever.
We love you!
Amen.

GIVE each child a bag. SCOOP one cup of cheddar bunnies into each child’s bag. EAT the snack and clean up the eGroup area.

HOLD UP the Follow Me poster and SAY: Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you can collect main point eggs to add to your poster. These eggs will help remind us Jesus loves everyone! Collect six eggs and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! 

To receive today’s main point egg, children will have to Remember, Think, and Follow! SAY: Let’s REMEMBER … After Jesus died, who put His body in a tomb? (Jesus’ friends) Let’s THINK … What did Mary do after the angel told her Jesus was alive? (She was so happy, she ran to tell her friends the good news.) Jesus is still alive today, and He loves us so much that He wants to be our friend forever! If you can FOLLOW the example set in our Bible story, let’s say our main point together:

GIVE each child a main point egg.

SAY: Take your egg home and glue it to your Follow Me poster. Make sure to look at your poster every day to remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned Jesus loves us and wants to be our friend forever! Say our main point with me.

READ the book aloud. Each time children see an egg, ENCOURAGE children to PAT their knees.
