KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
Kid Connect is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with the kids and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

Words in italics, whether on lessons or in handouts, are meant to be said out loud to your group.  Anything not in italics is an instruction that does not necessarily need to be read aloud.

•Who do you like going to the movies with?

LAY the Movie Memory cards facedown in the center of the circle.EXPLAIN children are going to play Movie Memory and try to find matching movie posters. SAY: Everyone make a sad face. One of the not so fun parts about going to a movie theater is waiting in line to buy a ticket or snack from the concession stand. HOLD UP a movie theater line card and SAY: During our game, if you flip over a movie theater line card, we’ll have to pretend like we are standing in line at the movies!

ME IN THE MOVIES

SUGGESTED TIME
8-10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
spinner, leader sheet, animal stickers

INTRODUCE the series using the series overview:

Today we are heading to Quest Cinemas to go on a Bible Adventure! We will discover new things in the Bible, learn our memory verse, pray and talk to God, and sing songs to God.

SHOW children the spinner. SPIN the spinner and introduce yourself. READ aloud a question from the leader sheet corresponding to the color spun and SHARE your answer with the eGroup.
CHOOSE one child to SPIN the spinner and have the child SHARE his or her name. READ aloud a corresponding question from the leader sheet and have the child answer the question. PASS the spinner to the next child. CONTINUE for each child.

AFTER all children are introduced, PASS out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.SAY: We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have fun in the castle. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

SAY: If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
A (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
Be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

Bible Connect is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

JOSEPH
BIBLE STORY

SUGGESTED TIME
8 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
God’s Story For Me Bible, movie tickets

TELL the children we can find true stories about Jesus in God’s book, the Bible! SHOW and READ the Bible Story on page 84-88 from the God’s Story For Me Bible.

ASK the following questions to review the Bible story. Each time a child answers a question, GIVE the child a movie ticket.

1. Jacob had 12 sons. Which son did he love the most? (Joseph)
2. What gift did Jacob give Joseph? (a beautiful coat)
3. Joseph had two dreams. Did the dreams make his brothers happy or very angry? (very angry)
4. Because his brothers were very angry, what did they do to Joseph? (took his coat, threw him into a deep hole, sold him to traders)
5. Joseph was taken very far away and sold to be what? (a worker)
6. Was Joseph sad and angry and do bad work or did he trust God and do good work? (good work)

SAY: When Joseph was sold, he could have been sad and angry and have a bad attitude, but instead, he trusted God and did GOOD work! He showed God and those around him he was thankful for what he had. The Bible tells us later in Joseph’s life, some things happened and Joseph could have had a bad attitude, but he showed he was thankful by having a good attitude. We can be like Joseph and have a good attitude because God is always with us. We can show others how much we care by using our ATTITUDES! Repeat our main point after me:

I can give thanks
(point to self)
with my ATTITUDE!
(smile and point to mouth)

Have children SIT DOWN and all children will RETURN the sunglasses to the center. REPEAT for a few rounds until all children have recited the memory verse.

CLARENCE’S BAD ATTITUDE
APPLICATION ACTIVITY

SUGGESTED TIME
10 MINUTES

SUPPLIES
Clarence (bat cutout), leader sheet

SAY: During our Movie of the Day at Quest Cinemas, we saw a bat who couldn’t fly. What was his name? (Clarence) How did Clarence have a bad attitude? (He was grumpy because he couldn’t fly and his wings were wet. He wouldn’t let Doc McStuffins help him get better.)

SAY: Even though Clarence couldn’t fly, he should have smiled, had a good attitude, and let Doc help him instead of being a grumpy bat. We can help Clarence just like Doc McStuffins did, so let’s help Clarence fly around our eGroup!

EXPLAIN children will PASS Clarence around the circle, helping him fly. When you SAY: Clarence is tired and needs a rest! the child holding Clarence will PLACE Clarence on the ground in the center of the circle. READ a question from the leader sheet and ENCOURAGE the group to answer.

CONTINUE to PASS Clarence and REPEAT until all questions from the leader sheet are READ and DISCUSSED.

SAY: Having a good attitude can be hard sometimes, but we can trust God and show we are thankful. When we give thanks with our ATTITUDE, it shows others we care! We can give thanks by smiling, being kind to others, offering to help, and using nice words. If you can use your ATTITUDE to give thanks, let’s say our main point together:

I can give thanks
(point to self)
with my ATTITUDE!
(smile and point to mouth)
