KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages, Quest animal check-in sheet
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page. Write children’s names and tag numbers on the Quest animal check-in sheet.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

CATCH OLLIE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)
What you do: Deal the cards evenly among the children by placing cards in a face-down pile in front of each child. Stack any extra cards face-up in the center of the group.
What you say: “Let’s pretend you’re in a bike race with Ollie! If you want to win, your job is to catch Ollie and collect all the cards!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to take turns turning over the top card from their pile and placing the card face-up in the middle of the group. The next child will do the same by placing the card from the top of their personal pile on top of the card in the center. Play continues this way until someone turns over an Ollie card on top of the center pile. When the children see Ollie, they will compete to be the first to “catch” Ollie by covering the card with their hand. The child who catches Ollie first takes all the cards from the middle and puts them at the bottom of their stack.

A child wins when they have collected all of the cards! (NOTE: If time runs out or if children are disengaging with the game, the player with the most cards can be declared the winner.)

As additional children are added to the eGroup, they can join the game by “catching” Ollie and collecting the cards that have accumulated underneath.

THE LEADER SAYS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and spread out around the eGroup space.
What you say: “We’re going to play a fun game called ‘The Leader Says.’ Raise your hand if you’ve ever played ‘Simon Says’ before. (Pause.) Great! We’ll play this game the same way. I will call out some instructions for you to follow, BUT you must listen very carefully. If I say, ‘The leader says touch your toes,’ then you should touch your toes! But if I don’t say, ‘The leader says,’ and I just say, ‘Touch your toes,’ you DO NOT touch your toes. Okay? So what are we listening for? (Pause for responses.) Right! ‘The leader says.’ Now let’s play!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Call out instructions for the children to follow. If the instruction is preceded with, “The leader says,” children must follow. If not, and the child does perform the instruction, remind them to listen carefully.
What you say: “Remember to follow my instructions ONLY when I say, ‘The leader says,’ first! That’s the right way to play!”
“The leader says to stomp your feet.”
“The leader says to jump up and down.”
“Say your name.”
“The leader says to hug your neighbor.”

CREATING THE SCENE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: activity mat (1), activity cards (12)
What you do: Seat children in a circle and place the activity mat in the center of the eGroup. Spread the activity cards around (but not on) the activity mat.
What you say: “This month we’re learning about how the Bible is like a map that shows us how to live the right way. Before we get started, let’s get to know each other better while we create a fun scene to go with our Bikes and Trikes series!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should choose one of the activity cards. Read a question from the back of the card, encourage the child to answer, then allow the child to place the activity card where he/she thinks it looks best on the activity mat.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert animal group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story that teaches us something about the way God wants us to live!”

BIBLE CONNECT

PSALM 119:105
EXODUS 19:1-20:17

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible! Psalm 119:105 tells us the Bible is like a light that shines on our path, showing us the way to go. In our Bible story today, we’ll see how God gave His people rules a long time ago. These rules were written in the Bible, and they still help us know the right way to live today!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 117-120 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“At the beginning of the story, did God’s people walk and walk, or did they sleep and sleep?” (They walked and walked.)
“Did God’s people camp near a mountain or a lake?” (a mountain)
“Who went up the mountain?”(Moses)
“Who did Moses go up the mountain to listen to?”(God)
“What did God tell Moses He would give His people?” (His laws)
“Would God’s laws tell people the best way to live or the worst way to live?” (the best way)
“Did God tell the people they could worship anyone, or did God say they should only worship Him?” (They should only worship God.)
“Who did God say His people should love and obey?” (their parents)
“Did God say it was ok to take things from other people?” (no)
“Did God tell them to say only true words or to tell lies?” (true words)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “God wanted to make sure His people knew the right way to live, so He gave them a set of rules to write down and keep with them. Those same rules are in the Bible today, and they still teach us the way God wants us to live. What tells you which way to go?” (The Bible tells me which way to go.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God shows us the right way to live. We can learn about His way to live by reading the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse in an excited voice, like you just got a new bike!”
“Say the verse really fast, like your bike is speeding down a big hill!”
“Say the verse in a wobbly voice, like a tire is wobbling on your trike!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can trust God to show us the right way to live!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their Wonder! Clubhouse poster!

FINISH THE VERSE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God shows us the right way to live. We can learn about His way to live by reading the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “When we ride our bikes and trikes, we can be safe by putting on a helmet (touch your head), elbow pads (touch your elbows), knee pads (touch your knees), and shoes (touch your toes). I’m going to call out a piece of safety gear, and you’ll try to touch the part of you it protects, just like I did. Most of the time, I’ll call out, ‘elbow pads’ (touch your elbows), ‘knee pads’ (touch your knees), or ‘shoes’ (touch your toes). But when I call out, ‘helmets’ (touch your head), you’ll race to touch your head as fast as you can! The last person to touch their head will choose a friend to say the verse with!”

What you do: Call out random combinations of, ‘elbow pads,’ ‘knee pads,’ and ‘shoes,’ and lead children in touching the corresponding body parts for each. Occasionally call out, ‘helmet,’ and encourage the last child to touch their head to choose a friend to say the verse aloud with them.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can trust God to show us the right way to live!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their Wonder! Clubhouse poster!
