KID CONNECT

BIG COLORING PAGE COLLECTION

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, big coloring page set (12 pages), coloring page key (1)
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a page from the coloring page set. Explain that after they color, children will put all the pieces from the set together to form one big picture!

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Ask children to help you arrange the pages they colored with any unused coloring pages from the set to form one large picture. Use the key to help assemble the big picture if needed. Keep the large picture assembled to use in the next Kid Connect activity: I Spy.

I SPY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: coloring sheets from previous activity, magnifying glasses (12)
What you say: “Wow! This is a big picture! There are some smaller things hidden in our big picture. Let’s see if you can find them all!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will look for hidden objects in the big picture. When they see the object you call out, they should raise their magnifying glass in the air. Choose one child to use their magnifying glass to show the rest of the group where it can be found. When there is more than one of the same object, a child should point out just one of them and then let another child have a turn. Continue until all objects have been found.
What you say: “All right, let’s see if you can find…”
“One bag of flour!”
“Two pizza cutters!”
“Three potholders!”
“Four chef hats!”
“Five water bottles!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Set the coloring pages aside until the end of the worship experience. Children may take home the part of the picture they colored. Any leftover pages should be discarded.

NEWSPAPER ACTION

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: newspaper pages (12), foam die
What you do: Give each child a newspaper page and encourage children to stand up and form a large circle around the eGroup space. Tell each child to place their newspaper page on the floor in front of them.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will follow your directions as you tell them different actions to take with their newspaper pages. The die will determine how long or how many times children will perform each action. The child who does the best job performing each action can roll the die for the next action.
Roll the die. Read an action statement below, inserting the number shown on the die where the “[#]” is shown. After each action, choose a child who completed the action well to roll the die, then read another action statement using that number. Repeat until all action statements have been read.
What you say: “Some of our Quest animals have BIG NEWS to share this month! Let’s use our special newspaper pages and see if you can complete these newspaper action challenges!”
“Stand on one foot on your newspaper page while I count to [#]!”
“Hop back and forth from one side of your newspaper page to the other [#] times!”
“Make a bridge over your newspaper page and keep it up while I count to [#]!“
“Pick up your newspaper page and balance if on your head while I count to [#]!”
“Sit on your newspaper page and hold completely still while I count to [#]!”
“Lay your newspaper page flat on one hand. Walk around and give [#] friends high-fives without letting it fall off!”
“Lift one knee in the air and balance your newspaper on your knee while I count to [#]!”
“Leave your newspaper page on the floor. Walk to [#] friends’ newspaper pages and tap them with one finger before walking back to your newspaper page.”
“Trade newspaper pages with [#] friends, then walk back to your spot.”

GET TO KNOW YOU

SHARE YOUR NEWS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: question sheet (1), foam die (1), microphone (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle.
What you say: “This month we’ve been learning about telling others about the most amazing person who ever lived! Do you know who I’m talking about? (Pause for children to respond.) That’s right; we’re learning to tell others about Jesus! Before we get started, let’s use a microphone to practice sharing exciting news about ourselves while we get to know each other better!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Give each child a turn to roll the die. Ask the child to answer one of the questions for the rolled number from the question sheet. Encourage children to share their answer by speaking into the microphone.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about someone who shared the BIG NEWS about Jesus with others!”

BIBLE CONNECT

PETER AND JOHN

ACTS 3:1-11, 16

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 493-498 of the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“At the beginning of the story, could the man walk or run?” (no)
“Every day, did he lay his mat outside the Temple gate or outside his house?” (outside the Temple gate)
“What did he ask for while he sat at the gate?” (money)
“When Peter and John walked by the man, did the man ask them for money?” (yes)
“Did Peter give the man money?” (no)
“What did Peter tell the man to do instead?” (walk)
“When Peter helped the man up, could the man walk?” (yes)
“After Peter healed the man in Jesus’ name, who did Peter tell everyone at the gate about?” (Jesus)
“Did the man celebrate by singing a song or by leaping and walking?”
(leaping and walking)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Giving the man the ability to walk was a great gift, but teaching all the people at the gate about Jesus was the best gift Peter and John could have given anyone! We can give others this great gift, too, when we take time to tell them about Jesus. Who can tell others about Jesus?” (I can tell others about Jesus.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies

What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us to share with everyone the big news that Jesus is alive!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse in your best news reporter voice!”
“Say the verse like a reporter who is standing in the middle of a blizzard!”
“Say the verse like you’re shouting the most exciting news ever!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! When we share the big news that Jesus is alive, other people will follow Jesus, too!”
What you do: Explain to the group this is the last week children can recite this verse to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

PASS THE MIKE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: microphone (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us to share with everyone the big news that Jesus is alive!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will pass the microphone around while you say the answer to our key question. Sometimes you’ll say, “I can tell others about Jesus,” very slowly, and sometimes you’ll say it quickly. Whoever is holding the microphone when you finish saying the word, “Jesus,” will choose a friend to stand with them and say the verse into the microphone. Continue passing the microphone and allowing children to practice the verse as long as time allows.

INSPIRING CELEBRATIONS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: whiteboard (1), dry erase marker (1)
What you say: “After Peter healed the man in Jesus’ name, the man went around walking and leaping and praising Jesus. When other people saw him moving around and heard him praising Jesus, his celebration made them want to know more about the One he was praising. Our celebration is a way to tell others about Jesus, too! Let’s think about some things we can celebrate that could inspire others to celebrate Jesus with us.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain kids will watch as you draw a picture and try to guess what it is. Once they guess correctly, the group will talk about why we can celebrate Jesus when we see that object.
Use the whiteboard and dry erase marker to draw the first object below and encourage children to try to guess what it is. After they guess, read the prompt and encourage children to respond. Repeat for each of the remaining objects.

WHAT YOU SAY:
FLOWER: “Everyone stand up and stretch like you’re a big, beautiful flower blooming! (Encourage children to stand up and stretch.) When you see a beautiful flower, you can tell others around you Jesus made that flower and then celebrate how beautiful it is together!”
FAMILY: “Everyone give yourself a big hug! (Encourage children to hug themselves.) When you hug someone in your family, you can tell them how thankful you are that Jesus gave you a family and then celebrate how much He loves you all together!”
SUN: “Everyone shade your eyes like it’s really bright. (Encourage children to shade their eyes.) On beautiful, sunny days, you can tell other people around you that Jesus loves when we enjoy beautiful weather and then invite them to celebrate outside with you!”
MEAN CHILD: “Everyone pretend to take a big bite of a yummy cupcake! (Encourage children to pretend to eat.) When you enjoy yummy food, you celebrate with the other people you’re eating with by talking about how Jesus loves to give us good things!”
TIRED CHILD: “Everyone give someone near you a high-five. (Encourage children to give each other high-fives.) When you spend time with your friends, you can thank Jesus together for giving you great friends to celebrate with!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “When we choose to celebrate Jesus for all the things He gives us and does for us, others will want to celebrate Jesus, too! Celebrating Jesus is a way we can share Him with others. Who can tell others about Jesus?” (I can tell others about Jesus.)

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “Let’s make a list of things we love to celebrate. It could be a special day, like Christmas or your birthday, or if could be when you finally did something you’d been working hard on, like the first time you rode a two-wheel bike. When we pray, we’ll thank God for so many different things to celebrate, because when we celebrate His goodness to us, others will want to celebrate Jesus, too!” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for giving us so many wonderful things to celebrate, like [read what each child shared]. But more than anything, we want to thank You for the best gift ever: Jesus. Thank You for sending Jesus to make a way for us to be with You forever. What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!

Tell them you’ll sometimes put a wrong word in the main point, but they should only move if you say all the right words! If children start to get up and move when you said a wrong word, they will need to shout the main point before sitting back down.
What you say: “All right, friends, make sure you listen very carefully for me to say our main point correctly: ‘I can celebrate Jesus.’ I’m going to put some other silly words in sometimes, so help each other listen for the right words. And remember, if you stand up on the wrong one, you’ll need to shout our main point as loud as you can before sitting back down!”
