GIANT COLORING PAGE COLLECTION

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, giant coloring page set (12 pages), giant coloring page key

What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a page from the coloring page set. Explain that after they color, children will put all the pieces from the set together to form one giant and wonderful picture!

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Ask children to help you arrange the pages children colored with any unused coloring pages from the set to form one large picture. Encourage children to point out some of the things they notice in the picture. Keep all of the pages to use in the first You Connect activity.

ROLL-A-CREATURE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: die (1), head cards (12), body cards (12), feet cards (12)

What you do: Shuffle each deck of cards and randomly deal each child one head card, one body card, and one feet card. The eGroup Leader should keep any leftover cards. Children should lay the cards on the floor in front of them to show their mixed-up creature (head on top, body in the middle, feet on the bottom).

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain children will try to trade cards so that the head, body, and feet in front of them are all from the same animal. Children will roll the die to find out which part to trade and who to trade with. If the child needs to trade a card with the eGroup Leader, the leader will exchange one of the child’s card for a random card from the same deck. The first child to form a full animal wins!

  • If a child rolls a one, the child can swap any card with the player to their left.
  • If a child rolls a two, the child can swap any card with the player to their right.
  • If a child rolls a three, the child can swap any card with the eGroup Leader.
  • If a child rolls a four, the child can swap a head card with any player.
  • If a child rolls a five, the child can swap a body card with any player.
  • If a child rolls a six, the child can swap a foot card with any player.

GOD. MADE. YOU. WONDERFUL.

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Seat children in a circle. Choose one child to be “It” first and ask that child to stand outside the circle.

What you say: “We’re going to play, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ but instead of saying the words, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ like the normal game, we’ll say, ‘God, Made, You, Wonderful!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: The child who is “It” will walk around the circle lightly patting the sitting children’s heads while saying the words “God made you wonderful.” The child should say one word per head. When “It” says the word “wonderful,” “It” will walk fast around the circle while the child whose head was patted on “wonderful” gets up and walks fast after “It.” The first child who is “It” will then take a seat in the spot of the second child. The second child will now be “It.” Continue with the activity until every child has had a turn to be “It.”

What you say: “Everyone sit in a circle. (Pause.) Perfect! One person will be ‘It’ and will walk around the circle gently patting heads while telling everyone that God made them wonderful. Watch me! (Demonstrate.) When you touch someone’s head and say the word ‘wonderful,’ start walking very fast around the circle to the empty spot. (Demonstrate.) If you are sitting in the circle and someone touches your head and says the word ‘wonderful,’get up and start walking fast after the person that touched you. Are you ready? (Pause.) Remember to say, ‘God made you wonderful!’”

CREATION FAVORITES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: inflatable globe ball

What you do: Ask all children to sit in a circle, criss-cross-applesauce. Encourage them to sit knee-to-knee so the circle is completely closed.

What you say: “This month we’re going to learn about all of the wonderful things God has made! Before we learn more about God’s creation, let’s get to know each other better.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Pass the ball around the circle. As each child holds the ball, give them a turn to introduce themselves by saying their name and answering the special Creation Question of the Week: “Would you rather have the power to breathe underwater or fly high in the sky?”

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

a (insert group name) (allow response)

I will (allow response)

be kind and safe! (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .

Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
