KID CONNECT

WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
KID CONNECT is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with your eGroup and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

QUEST COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, coloring page, die
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

Extension Activities

    • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
    • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the coloring pages and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

KID CONNECT

QUEST ANIMAL MEMORY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory cards, die
What you do: Lay the memory cards facedown in the center of the group.
What you say: “We’re going to see who has the best memory while we try to find matches for all of our Quest animal friends!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Each child gets to turn over two memory cards and keep them if the picture matches. If a player turns over two cards which do not match, those cards are turned facedown again. It becomes the next child’s turn whether the pictures do or do not match. Play as time allows or until all matches are found.

Extension Activities

  • Use the die to determine the number of cards each child will turn over on his or her turn.
  • On their turn, each child will roll the die to determine how many cards to turn over.

KID CONNECT

3, 2, 1… BLAST OFF!

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup area.
What you say: “Today, I want to play a super fun game called ‘3, 2, 1, … Blast Off!’ I will call out a movement like ‘march in place,’ and when I say, ‘Three, two, one, blast off!’ I want you to do it with me like this. (Demonstrate marching in place.) Ready?”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage children to put on their listening ears so they can follow your directions and blast off together!
What you say:

  • “Hug a friend! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Pat your legs! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Touch your nose! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Jump up high! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Sing ‘la, la, la!’ 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Jog in place! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Squat down low! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Touch your toes! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Twist side to side! 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”
  • “Wave ‘hello!’ 3, 2, 1 … Blast off!”

What you say: “Wow! You guys are GREAT listeners! That was a super fun game! I’m so excited that we’re blasting off at church together!”

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: die, leader card, Quest animal stickers
What you say: “We’re blasting off with exciting stories and fantastic adventures as we discover how God made us, God loves us, and Jesus wants to be our friend forever!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Roll the die and introduce yourself. Read the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and share your answer with the eGroup. Encourage each child to roll the die, introduce themselves, and answer the corresponding question.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)  
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to blast off into our Bible story and hear something exciting that God wants to teach us today!”

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

BIBLE CONNECT is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

THE LOST SHEEP

Luke 15:3-7

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, space stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story on pages pages 379-381 from the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a space sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “What kind of animal did the shepherd take care of?” (sheep)
  2. “Did all of the sheep get lost, or just one sheep?” (just one sheep) 
  3. “Did the shepherd let the lost sheep go, or did he look for it?” (He looked for it.)
  4. “How did the shepherd feel when he found the sheep?” (glad) 
  5. “Who did Jesus say loves us like a good shepherd?” (God)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Jesus told this story because he wanted us to know that God is our good shepherd. He loves us and He will come looking for us just like a shepherd looks for his lost sheep and saves the day. You don’t ever have to be worried about being lost from God. He will always find you because He loves you!”

BIBLE CONNECT

Choose one of the memory verse activity options to help children learn and practice the Bible verse together.

NOTE: Children cannot receive a memory verse card week one of the series.

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you say: “This month we’re learning about how God made us and loves us and wants to be our friend! Our Bible verse tells us nothing could ever take God’s love away from us.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.

What you say: “I am going to say our new memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Great job! I think you’re ready to say our verse in some silly voices now.”

  • “Say the verse in a loud voice, like you’re trying to yell to outer space!”
  • “Say the verse in a silly space alien voice!”
  • “Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re standing on the moon where there’s no sound!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Good job! Our memory verse tells us that not matter what we do, God will ALWAYS love us! ALWAYS! God loves us sooo much!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

 

 

BIBLE CONNECT

FOLLOW  THE VERSE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Let’s pretend there’s a path right here around the edge of our rug. I want you to line up and follow me along the path as we say our memory verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Line the children up and lead them around the edge of the rug, moving in different ways each time you prepare to say the verse.

What you say: “Be sure to stay in line behind me! Everybody march forward ten steps! Count our marching steps with me: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me! (Lead children in saying the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now stand up and follow me around the rug again!”

  • “Everybody hop forward four times! Count our hops with me: 1, 2, 3, 4! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)
  • “Everybody take eight tiny baby steps forward! Count our baby steps with me: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)
  • “Everybody take three steps forward as slowly as you can! Count our slow steps with me: 1, 2, 3! Now everyone sit down right where you are and say the verse with me!” (Repeat verse)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Great job following me and saying the verse! It’s true that NOTHING, absolutely nothing, can separate us from God’s love. He loves you always – no matter what! Isn’t that awesome?”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

YOU CONNECT is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

I SPY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: “I Spy” mat, magnifying glasses, leader sheet
What you do: Give each child an “I Spy” mat and a magnifying glass.
What you say: “In our Bible story Jesus talked about a shepherd who looked everywhere to find one sheep because the shepherd loved and cared for his sheep just like God loves and cares for us! We’re going to play ‘I Spy’ to find some special sheep in this flock and talk about some of the ways God shows He loves us.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Let’s use our magnifying glasses to help us find some special sheep hidden in this big flock of sheep! Hold your magnifying glass up to your eye if you’re ready to find the special sheep! (Pause for children to respond.) Okay, here we go!”

What you do: Describe the first sheep on the leader sheet. Tell children to place their magnifying glass over the sheep when they find it. Once children have found the sheep, read the thinking prompt from the leader sheet. Repeat until all sheep have been found and discussed.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Great job, friends! We found so many different sheep. Just like each of those sheep were different and special, God made each of us different and special too, but He loves us all just the same!”

YOU CONNECT

JOURNAL / COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz prayer journal/journal page, pen, collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker, crayons
What you say: “Today we learned God loves us! Now it’s time to write in our eGroup prayer journal and pray together.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eKidz prayer journal (or a journal page if you don’t have your eKidz prayer journal) and pen. Write each child’s name and what they say beside their names. Remember to print the words they say so the children can recognize their names and the letters. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Now it’s time to write in our eKidz prayer journal. Today I want us to make a list of what we think makes a good friend. We can use the list to thank Jesus for being the best friend ever when we pray. So tell me, what do you think makes someone a good friend? (Record what each child says.) This is a great list!

Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You that He made a way for us to know You and be with You forever. We made a list of things we think make a good friend, things like … (read the list the children made). We know Jesus is even better than this list! Jesus is the best friend we could ever ask for! I pray each child here will one day believe in Him and follow Him as their friend forever. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize!

Today’s main point card says, ‘God loves me!’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED A COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned God loves each of us!”

What you do: Take your eKidz prayer journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

YOU CONNECT

WHO IS MISSING?

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: sheep cards
What you do: Spread the sheep cards out in the middle of the group so the whole group can see each of the cards.
What you say: “Do you remember these special sheep from our ‘I Spy’ game? Let’s see if you can remember all of them well enough to know which one is missing when it hides!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Ask the children to hide their eyes, then remove one sheep card and put it face down behind you. Tell children to open their eyes and ask them if they know which sheep is missing. Once the children guess correctly, put the sheep card back in the middle of the group. Continue with the activity until each sheep has been hidden and remembered.

What you say: “Everyone hide your eyes! (Remove a sheep card.) One sheep is missing! Can you tell me which one is missing? (Pause.) Great job! You are right! (Replace the sheep.) Let’s try that again!” (Continue with the activity.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “You did such a great job finding which sheep was missing! Today in our story a sheep was missing and the shepherd looked everywhere until he found that one sheep. Just like that shepherd, God loves each of us so much that He knows exactly where we are and exactly what we need all the time!”
