KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.
DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.
AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

I SPY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: I Spy mats (12), I Spy cards (10), mini magnifying glasses (12)
What you do: Give each child an I Spy mat.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will compete to be the first to find the different items on their I Spy mats. Each time you show them the picture on an I Spy card, children will race to find that picture on their I Spy mat. When children find it, they will place their mini magnifying glass on top of the picture on their I Spy mat and call out, “I Spy!” Hand the I Spy card for each item to the child who finds it on their I Spy mat first. The child with the most I Spy cards at the end wins!

WATCH WHAT I CAN DO

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: beanbags (12), foam die (1)
What you do: Give each child a beanbag. Encourage children to stand up and spread out around the eGroup space.
What you say: “This month we’re learning to watch Jesus because He can do amazing things! We can’t do all the things Jesus can do, but I bet we can do some pretty cool things with these bean bags. Let’s see what we can do!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain you will ask children if they can complete a challenge with their beanbag. Any child who wants to try will stand up and say, “Watch what I can do!” Those children will then attempt to complete the challenge.
For each challenge listed below, roll the die and insert that number in place of the “[#]” symbol in the instructions. If children try a challenge, but cannot do it, make circles with your hands, hold them in front of your eyes like binoculars, and say, “I saw [child’s name] give it a great try!” When children complete the challenge, give them a high-five and say, “I saw [child’s name] do something cool!”
eTL Tip: Before allowing children to gently toss a beanbag, show them how to toss one gently so it doesn’t go any higher than your head. Explain you will have to take beanbags back from any children who can’t follow the rules!

THE WAY I SEE IT

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: inkblot cards (12)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Spread the inkblot cards around the center of the circle.
What you say: “This month we’re learning to watch and learn from someone who can do anything! Do you know who I’m talking about? (Pause for children to respond.) That’s right; we should watch Jesus because He can do amazing things! Before we hear a Bible story about one of the amazing things Jesus did, let’s get to know each other a little bit better!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain that the inkblot cards don’t show an actual picture; children will look at the cards and decide what they think the picture could look like. Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should choose one of the inkblot cards and tell what they think it looks like. Read the question from the back of the card the child chose and encourage the child to answer.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about something incredible Jesus did!”

CATCHING FISH

LUKE 5:1-7
BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Bible story cards (3), Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story using the Bible story cards. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“Was Jesus teaching by the water or on top of a mountain?” (by the water)
“Was He teaching a small crowd of people or a big crowd?” (a big crowd)
“Who let Jesus use their boat while He taught the big crowd?”(fishermen)
“After He was done teaching, what did Jesus say they should do?”(go fishing)
“The fishermen had already tried to fish that night. Had they caught any fish?” (no)
“Which fisherman didn’t think they could catch any fish?” (Peter)
“Did Peter listen to Jesus and throw his nets back in the water?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Jesus is AWESOME! He can do anything — even things we can’t do. Who can do anything?” (Jesus can do anything.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God can do anything, so impossible things are possible for God!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices while we pretend to do science experiments like our friends in the Wonder! Clubhouse!”
“Lean in close and say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re listening for your science experiment to make a noise!”
“Jump up and say the verse in a loud voice, like your science experiment just exploded!”
“Hold your hands in front of your eyes like goggles and say the verse in a grown-up voice, like you’re a real scientist!”

What you say: “Great job, friends! Because all things are possible with God, He can do anything we would ever need Him to do for us!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their Wonder! Clubhouse poster!

VERSE RACE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: beanbags (6)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Spread six beanbags across the center of the circle.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God can do anything, so impossible things are possible for God!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will watch you carefully while you pretend to work on a science experiment (pretend to mix things, pour things into beakers, inspect them with a magnifying glass, etc.). Tell them you will take a beanbag from the center, and you will try to do it without them noticing. When children see you take a beanbag, they will race to grab the other five beanbags. Any children without a beanbag will stand and say the verse together!

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! Because all things are possible with God, He can do anything we would ever need Him to do for us!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their Wonder! Clubhouse poster!

YOU CONNECT

FISHY FUN

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: activity pages (1 per child), activity cards (8), fish sticker book (1)
What you do: Give each child an activity page. Tear out the pages with small fish stickers from the fish sticker book and place the fish sticker pages where they are easily accessible to all children.
What you say: “Jesus can do anything! We’re going to do an activity that will help us remember the amazing thing Jesus did in our Bible story today.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Read the activity cards one at a time and encourage children to add fish stickers to the nets on their activity page as directed.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “WOW! There are so many fish in your nets! Even though the fishermen had tried to fish in that exact same spot all night long and couldn’t catch anything, Jesus was able to help them catch more fish than their nets could even hold! Who can do anything?” (Jesus can do anything.)
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their activity pages. Set the activity pages aside until children are dismissed, then send children’s activity pages home with them.

YOU CONNECT

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND MAIN POINT CARD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster, main point cards (1 per child), glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned Jesus can do things we can’t!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “There are a lot of things we will never be able to do, like I will never be able to fly like a bird, jump to the moon, or have super powers. I want us to make a list of some of the things we can’t do. When we pray, we can thank God for giving us a friend like Jesus who can do ANYTHING! So, when I say your name, tell me one thing you can’t do.” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
Let’s pray together now! Dear God, You made us to be able to do a lot of things, like be a good friend, learn new things, and love our families. But there are some things we can’t do, like (read the list the children made). It would be amazing if we could, but we are people, and there are some things people just can’t do. But not Jesus! Jesus is SO awesome, and He can do anything! Thank You for giving us Jesus to be our friend forever. We love You! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster.
What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!
Today’s main point card says, ‘Jesus can do things we can’t.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster at home.”
VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW WONDER! CLUBHOUSE POSTER: Give the child a poster and glue the main point card on it. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned Jesus can do things we can’t!”
What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

OLLIE MAY “EYE”

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: foam die (1)
What you do: Line children up side-by-side at one end of the eGroup space, then stand at the other end.
What you say: “In this game I’m going to watch and listen to see if you can follow my directions AND remember today’s main point.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will try to be the first to reach you by rolling the die and taking that many steps toward you after saying the main point (Jesus can do things we can’t.). If they cannot say the main point, the child cannot move forward.
There are two important things the child must remember to do on their turn: they must say, “Ollie, may EYE?” before they begin moving, and they must keep their eyes on you while they move. If they forget to do either of these things, they must move back to start.
Allow children to take turns rolling the die. The die will tell children how many steps they can take toward you after they say the main point. After the child says the main point, he/she should say, “Ollie, may EYE?” Reply, “Yes, you may,” and then encourage the child to move forward while keeping their eyes on you.
eGL Tip: For older children, give them specific types of steps to take as they walk toward you and say the main point.
These types could include:
giant steps
baby steps
tiptoe steps
bunny hops
frog jumps
one-foot hops
penguin waddles
deer leaps
ant marches
worm wiggles
Children should still ask, “Ollie, may I?” before moving and keep their eyes on you as they move and say the main point!

DISMISSAL
