KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages, Quest animal check-in sheet
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page. Write children’s names and tag numbers on the Quest animal check-in sheet.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

CATCH OLLIE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)
What you do: Deal the cards evenly among the children by placing cards in a face-down pile in front of each child. Stack any extra cards face-up in the center of the group.
What you say: “Let’s pretend you’re in a bike race with Ollie! If you want to win, your job is to catch Ollie and collect all the cards!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to take turns turning over the top card from their pile and placing the card face-up in the middle of the group. The next child will do the same by placing the card from the top of their personal pile on top of the card in the center. Play continues this way until someone turns over an Ollie card on top of the center pile. When the children see Ollie, they will compete to be the first to “catch” Ollie by covering the card with their hand. The child who catches Ollie first takes all the cards from the middle and puts them at the bottom of their stack. A child wins when they have collected all of the cards! (NOTE: If time runs out or if children are disengaging with the game, the player with the most cards can be declared the winner.)
As additional children are added to the eGroup, they can join the game by “catching” Ollie and collecting the cards that have accumulated underneath.

THE LEADER SAYS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and spread out around the eGroup space.
What you say: “We’re going to play a fun game called ‘The Leader Says.’ Raise your hand if you’ve ever played ‘Simon Says’ before. (Pause.) Great! We’ll play this game the same way. I will call out some instructions for you to follow, BUT you must listen very carefully. If I say, ‘The leader says touch your toes,’ then you should touch your toes! But if I don’t say, ‘The leader says,’ and I just say, ‘Touch your toes,’ you DO NOT touch your toes. Okay? So what are we listening for? (Pause for responses.) Right! ‘The leader says.’ Now let’s play!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Call out instructions for the children to follow. If the instruction is preceded with, “The leader says,” children must follow. If not, and the child does perform the instruction, remind them to listen carefully.
What you say: “Remember to follow my instructions ONLY when I say, ‘The leader says,’ first! That’s the right way to play!”
“The leader says to stomp your feet.”
“The leader says to jump up and down.”
“Say your name.”
“The leader says to hug your neighbor.”
“The leader says to touch your toes.”
“The leader says to sing the ‘A,B,C’ song.”
“Nod your head.”
“Do three jumping jacks.”
“The leader says to pretend to be a statue.”
“The leader says to reach for the sky.”
“The leader says to bark like a dog.”
“The leader says to jog in place.”
“Sing, ‘La-la-la!’”
“The leader says to click your tongue.”
“The leader says to show me your muscles.”

GET TO KNOW YOU

CREATING THE SCENE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: activity mat (1), activity cards (12)
What you do: Seat children in a circle and place the activity mat in the center of the eGroup. Spread the activity cards around (but not on) the activity mat.
What you say: “This month we’re learning about how the Bible is like a map that shows us how to live the right way. Before we get started, let’s get to know each other better while we create a fun scene to go with our Bikes and Trikes series!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should choose one of the activity cards. Read a question from the back of the card, encourage the child to answer, then allow the child to place the activity card where he/she thinks it looks best on the activity mat.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert animal group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story that teaches us something about the way God wants us to live!”

BIBLE CONNECT

JEREMIAH 29:12 & JONAH 1-4

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible! Jeremiah 29:12 tells us that when we come to God and pray to Him, He will always listen. In our Bible story today, we’ll see how God listened to a man who prayed to him in the middle of some crazy situations!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 260-265 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“Did God tell Jonah to go to Nineveh or to New York?” (Nineveh)
“Did God want the people in Nineveh to eat more vegetables or stop doing wrong things?” (stop doing wrong things)
“Did Jonah like the people in Nineveh?”(no)
“Did Jonah get on a ship going to Nineveh or away from Nineveh?”
(away from Nineveh)
“When the storm came, did the sailors ask Jonah to pray or to hide down in the boat?” (pray)
“After Jonah was thrown into the water, what swam by and swallowed him?” (a big fish)
“Did Jonah pray or sleep in the big fish’s belly?” (pray)
“How long was Jonah in the big fish’s belly?” (three days)
“How did Jonah get out of the big fish?” (It coughed him onto the sand.)
“When God asked Jonah again to go to Nineveh, did Jonah obey?”
(yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Whether he was on a boat in the middle of a scary storm or sitting in a big fish’s belly, Jonah knew he could pray to God anytime. The Bible tells us we can pray to God anytime, too! What tells you which way to go?” (The Bible tells me which way to go.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God shows us the right way to live. We can learn about His way to live by reading the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children, then encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse in an excited voice, like you just got a new bike!”
“Say the verse really fast, like your bike is speeding down a big hill!”
“Say the verse in a wobbly voice, like a tire is wobbling on your trike!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can trust God to show us the right way to live!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

FINISH THE VERSE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God shows us the right way to live. We can learn about His way to live by reading the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “When we ride our bikes and trikes, we can be safe by putting on a helmet (touch your head), elbow pads (touch your elbows), knee pads (touch your knees), and shoes (touch your toes). I’m going to call out a piece of safety gear, and you’ll try to touch the part of you it protects, just like I did. Most of the time, I’ll call out, ‘elbow pads’ (touch your elbows), ‘knee pads’ (touch your knees), or ‘shoes’ (touch your toes). But when I call out, ‘helmets’ (touch your head), you’ll race to touch your head as fast as you can! The last person to touch their head will choose a friend to say the verse with!”
What you do: Call out random combinations of, ‘elbow pads,’ ‘knee pads,’ and ‘shoes,’ and lead children in touching the corresponding body parts for each. Occasionally call out, ‘helmet,’ and encourage the last child to touch their head to choose a friend to say the verse aloud with them.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “If we can talk to God anytime, that means we can talk to God no matter where we are or what we’re doing. We can talk to God when we’re playing at the playground, when we’re learning at school, when we’re happy, when we’re sad —ANYTIME! When I call your name, tell me one time you can talk to God.” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
“This list is SO good! We really can talk to God anytime, anywhere, about anything. God is always listening! Let’s talk to God right now and thank Him for always listening to us when we talk to Him. Dear God, thank You that we can talk to You anytime, anywhere, about anything. Thank You that [child’s name] can talk to You when (read what is listed) and . . . (say this for each child). You are the best, God, and we love You very much! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster.
What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

FOUR CORNER REVIEW

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)
What you do: Place four different cards at four different corners of the eGroup space.
What you say: “Each of you will choose one of our Quest playing cards to stand beside. I’m going to start turning over the other playing cards one at a time. If I turn over a card that matches one of the cards in the corners, everyone standing by the matching card will say the main point together. If it doesn’t match one of the cards in the corner, I’ll say the main point in a silly voice! Our main point is, ‘The Bible tells me I can talk to God anytime.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage all children to stand beside one of the four Quest playing cards in a corner of the eGroup space. Flip over a playing card from the remaining deck. If a card matching one of the corner cards is turned over, ask all children standing in that corner to say the main point (‘The Bible tells me I can talk to God anytime.’) together. If the card does not match one of the corner cards, the eGroup Leader should say the main point in a silly voice. After the main point has been said, allow children to pick a different corner to stand in and continue to turn over Quest playing cards from the deck, repeating the process for saying the main point as long as time and interest allow.
