KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

GO FISH

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Place three playing cards face down in front of each child. Tell children they can look at their cards, but not to let anyone else see their cards.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children are trying to collect pairs of matching cards, and the child with the most matches at the end of the game wins!

Children will take turns trying to get cards to match the cards already in their hand by asking one other child in the circle or by taking a card from the draw pile. A child can ask any other child in the circle, “Do you have a (insert Quest animal) card?” If the other child has the card, he or she must give it to the child who asked. If the other child does not have the card, he or she will say, “Go Fish!” and the child who asked can take a card from the top of the draw pile.
Any time a child has two matching cards, both cards can be placed face-up on the floor. The game ends when all matches have been made. If a child runs out of cards before then, he or she can ask for any card they choose on their next turn. If the draw pile runs out before the game ends, children’s turn will end if the child they asked doesn’t have the requested card. The child with the most matches at the end of the game is the winner!

FOLLOW THE LEADER

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: color die (1), foam die (1)
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and form a large circle around the eGroup space.
What you say: “This month we’ll spend most of our time learning to follow the best leader ever — JESUS! But for this activity, you will all get to take turns being the leader. You’ll lead the group in acting out different parts of a fishing adventure!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns being the leader. The leader will stand in the center of the circle and roll two dice — a color die and a foam die. The color die will tell which action to complete, and the foam die will tell how many times to perform the action.
Choose a child to be the leader and encourage the leader to stand in the middle and roll both dice. Use the chart below to tell the leader what action to lead the group in performing according to the color shown on the color die, replacing the [#] with the number rolled on the foam die. After each action, choose a different child to stand in the middle and be the leader.

GET TO KNOW YOU

FISHY QUESTIONS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: question fish (12), net (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Shuffle the question fish and place them in the net.
What you say: “This month we’re learning about what it means to follow the greatest leader who ever lived! Do you know who I’m talking about? (Pause for children to respond.) That’s right; we’re going to learn to follow Jesus! Before we get started, let’s take turns catching some fish while we get to know each other better!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should “catch” one of the fish from the fishing net and hand it to you. Read a question from the back of the fish card and encourage the child to answer.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about someone who made the choice to follow Jesus!”

BIBLE CONNECT

ANDREW AND PETER; JOHN AND JAMES
MATTHEW 4:18-22

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 306-307 ONLY in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“Who was walking by the Sea of Galilee while the fishermen were out fishing?” (Jesus)
“What were the fishermen throwing out in the water?” (fishing nets)
“Who were the first two fishermen Jesus called out to?”(Peter and Andrew)
“Did Jesus invite them to play with Him or to follow Him?”(follow Him)
“Did Jesus say He would teach them how to tell people about God or about how to be better at catching fish?”(how to tell people about God)
“Did Peter and Andrew follow Jesus?”(yes)
“Who were the next two fishermen Jesus called out to?”(James and John)
“Did Jesus invite them to come with Him, too, or did He ask them to cook Him some fish?”(Jesus invited them to come with Him, too.)
“Did James and John follow Jesus?”(yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Jesus wants everyone to follow Him. He went to Andrew and Peter and said, ‘Follow me.’ They dropped their fishing nets and followed Jesus! So did John and James! Jesus wants us to follow Him, too! Who can you follow?” (I can follow Jesus.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: memory verse cards
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us Jesus wants us to follow Him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse like you’re under water!” (Wiggle your fingers between your lips while saying it.)
“Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re trying not to scare the fish!”
“Say the verse in a deep voice, like a big-mouth bass fish!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can follow Jesus because He is the greatest leader ever!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

WHO HAS THE NET?

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: net (1), memory verse cards
What you do: Seat children in a line on one side of the eGroup space.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us Jesus wants us to follow Him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain one child will step away from the group, turn their back to the group, and close their eyes. While the child’s eyes are closed, give the net to a different child. That child will hide the net behind his/her back. As the child works to hide the net, call out, “Who can you follow?” Encourage children to respond, “I can follow Jesus!” Once they’re done responding, time is up for the net to be hidden! Encourage the child who stepped away from the group to turn around, open their eyes, and guess who they think has the net. If the child guesses correctly, lead the whole group in saying the verse together. If the child guesses incorrectly, encourage the child to choose to friends to stand and say the verse with him/her.

FISHY FOLLOWERS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: game board (1), game cards (8), fish (2)
What you do: Divide children into two teams. Place the game board in the center of the eGroup. Assign each team a fish to be their game piece, then place both fish on the “Start” space on the game board.
What you say: “Let’s play a game where we think about ways we can follow Jesus!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain teams will race to reach the “Finish” space on the game board. On their turn, teams can move their fish pieces by responding to a game card.
Turn over a game card, read it aloud, and encourage one team to respond. Once they’ve responded, encourage children to count the number of spaces with you as you move the fish piece forward as directed on the game card.
Repeat this process for the other team. Continue alternating between teams, reading cards aloud, encouraging children to respond, and moving their fish forward until all game cards have been read.
If a team reaches the “Finish” space before all cards have been read, continue reading cards and allowing the other team to respond and move forward.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “You don’t have to be a grown-up, or do some big important job, or be a famous person to follow Jesus. There are so many ways you can follow Jesus right now! Who can you follow?” (I can follow Jesus.)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND MAIN POINT CARD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: stopwatch, eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster, main point cards (1 per child), glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned we can follow Jesus.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “Remember, following Jesus means doing what He does, like loving people or helping people or even sharing with people. And the best part is Jesus wants everyone to follow Him. EVERYONE! I’m going to set the timer on my phone for three minutes. When I say GO, let’s make a list of EVERYONE we know until the timer goes off. We can use our list when we pray and ask God to help everyone follow Jesus. Okay, get ready! When I say GO, start saying names of everyone you know. (Set a timer for three minutes. Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal until time runs out.)
Let’s pray together now! Dear God, Jesus is such a good, good friend. Thank You that He loves EVERYONE and that He wants EVERYONE to follow Him. We pray that (read the list the children made) will follow Jesus. We love You, God! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster.
What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!
Today’s main point card says, ‘I can follow Jesus.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster at home.”

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW WONDER! CLUBHOUSE POSTER: Give the child a poster and glue the main point card on it. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned we can follow Jesus!”
What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

FOLLOW, FOLLOW, FOLLOW ME

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Choose one child to be “It” first and ask that child to stand outside the circle.
What you say: “We’re going to play, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ but instead of saying the words, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ like the normal game, we’ll say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’ We’ll also practice our main point. If I ask you, ‘Who can you follow?’ you can answer, ‘I can follow Jesus.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: The child who is “It” will walk around the circle lightly patting the sitting children’s heads while saying the words “Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.” The child should say one word per head. When “It” says the word “me,” “It” will walk fast around the circle while the child whose head was patted on “me” gets up and walks fast after “It.”“It” will try to take a seat in the spot of the second child. If “It” makes it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, the second child will now be “It.” If “It” does not make it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, ask the child, “Who can you follow?” Encourage the child to answer, “I can follow Jesus,” before the child takes the second child’s seat. The second child is now “It.” Continue with the activity until every child has had a turn to be “It.”
What you say: “Everyone sit in a circle. (Pause.) Perfect! One person will be ‘It’ and will walk around the circle gently patting heads while saying, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.’ Watch me! (Demonstrate.) When you touch someone’s head and say the word ‘me,’ start walking very fast around the circle to try to beat them back to their spot. (Demonstrate.) If you don’t beat them back, I’ll ask you, ‘Who can you follow?’ and you’ll answer, ‘I can follow Jesus!’
If you are sitting in the circle and someone touches your head and says the word ‘me,’get up and start walking fast after the person that touched you to see if you can catch them.
Are you ready? (Pause.) Remember to say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’”
