KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

GO FISH

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Place three playing cards face down in front of each child. Tell children they can look at their cards, but not to let anyone else see their cards.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children are trying to collect pairs of matching cards, and the child with the most matches at the end of the game wins!
Children will take turns trying to get cards to match the cards already in their hand by asking one other child in the circle or by taking a card from the draw pile. A child can ask any other child in the circle, “Do you have a (insert Quest animal) card?” If the other child has the card, he or she must give it to the child who asked. If the other child does not have the card, he or she will say, “Go Fish!” and the child who asked can take a card from the top of the draw pile.
Any time a child has two matching cards, both cards can be placed face-up on the floor. The game ends when all matches have been made. If a child runs out of cards before then, he or she can ask for any card they choose on their next turn. If the draw pile runs out before the game ends, children’s turn will end if the child they asked doesn’t have the requested card. The child with the most matches at the end of the game is the winner!

FOLLOW THE LEADER

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: color die (1), foam die (1)
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and form a large circle around the eGroup space.
What you say: “This month we’ll spend most of our time learning to follow the best leader ever — JESUS! But for this activity, you will all get to take turns being the leader. You’ll lead the group in acting out different parts of a fishing adventure!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns being the leader. The leader will stand in the center of the circle and roll two dice — a color die and a foam die. The color die will tell which action to complete, and the foam die will tell how many times to perform the action.
Choose a child to be the leader and encourage the leader to stand in the middle and roll both dice. Use the chart below to tell the leader what action to lead the group in performing according to the color shown on the color die, replacing the [#] with the number rolled on the foam die. After each action, choose a different child to stand in the middle and be the leader.

GET TO KNOW YOU

FISHY QUESTIONS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: question fish (12), net (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Shuffle the question fish and place them in the net.
What you say: “This month we’ve been learning about what it means to follow the greatest leader who ever lived! Do you know who I’m talking about? (Pause for children to respond.) That’s right; we’re learning to follow Jesus! Before we get started, let’s take turns catching some fish while we get to know each other better!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should “catch” one of the fish from the fishing net and hand it to you. Read a question from the back of the fish card and encourage the child to answer.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about following Jesus!”

What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from page 409-414 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“What did Jesus tell His friends to look for in the village?” (a donkey)
“Did He tell them to feed the donkey or bring it to Him?” (bring it to Him)
“Did Jesus’ friends find the donkey where He said it would be?”(yes)
“Who rode the donkey into Jerusalem?”(Jesus)
“Were the people along the road to Jerusalem excited or angry to see Jesus?” (excited)

“Did the people lay blankets or their coats along the road for Jesus to ride over?”(their coats)
“Who would people usually welcome by laying down their coats and tree branches along the road?”(a king)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: memory verse cards
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us Jesus wants us to follow Him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse like you’re under water!” (Wiggle your fingers between your lips while saying it.)
“Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re trying not to scare the fish!”
“Say the verse in a deep voice, like a big-mouth bass fish!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can follow Jesus because He is the greatest leader ever!”
What you do: Explain to the group this is the last week children can recite this verse to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

WHO HAS THE NET?

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: net (1), memory verse cards
What you do: Seat children in a line on one side of the eGroup space.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us Jesus wants us to follow Him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain one child will step away from the group, turn their back to the group, and close their eyes. While the child’s eyes are closed, give the net to a different child. That child will hide the net behind his/her back. As the child works to hide the net, call out, “Who can you follow?” Encourage children to respond, “I can follow Jesus!” Once they’re done responding, time is up for the net to be hidden! Encourage the child who stepped away from the group to turn around, open their eyes, and guess who they think has the net. If the child guesses correctly, lead the whole group in saying the verse together. If the child guesses incorrectly, encourage the child to choose to friends to stand and say the verse with him/her.

What you say: “Since today is all about celebrating Jesus because He is so special, let’s make a list of things that make Jesus special. It can be because He’s a good friend, He forgives us, He loves us no matter what, He helps us, He listens to us, or He is always with us. There are so many things that make Jesus special! When I say your name, tell me one thing that makes Jesus special to you. (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for loving us so much that You gave us Jesus. Jesus is SO special! He is (read the list the children made). Jesus is the best! FOLLOW, FOLLOW, FOLLOW ME

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Choose one child to be “It” first and ask that child to stand outside the circle.
What you say: “We’re going to play, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ but instead of saying the words, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ like the normal game, we’ll say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’ We’ll also practice our main point. If I ask you, ‘Who can we celebrate?’ you can answer, ‘We can celebrate Jesus.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: The child who is “It” will walk around the circle lightly patting the sitting children’s heads while saying the words “Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.” The child should say one word per head. When “It” says the word “me,” “It” will walk fast around the circle while the child whose head was patted on “me” gets up and walks fast after “It.”“It” will try to take a seat in the spot of the second child. If “It” makes it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, the second child will now be “It.” If “It” does not make it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, ask the child, “Who can we celebrate?” Encourage the child to answer, “We can celebrate Jesus,” before the child takes the second child’s seat. The second child is now “It.” Continue with the activity until every child has had a turn to be “It.”
What you say: “Everyone sit in a circle. (Pause.) Perfect! One person will be ‘It’ and will walk around the circle gently patting heads while saying, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.’ Watch me! (Demonstrate.) When you touch someone’s head and say the word ‘me,’ start walking very fast around the circle to try to beat them back to their spot. (Demonstrate.) If you don’t beat them back, I’ll ask you, ‘Who can we celebrate?’ and you’ll answer, ‘We can celebrate Jesus!’
If you are sitting in the circle and someone touches your head and says the word ‘me,’get up and start walking fast after the person that touched you to see if you can catch them.
Are you ready? (Pause.) Remember to say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’”
