KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

GO FISH

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Place three playing cards face down in front of each child. Tell children they can look at their cards, but not to let anyone else see their cards.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children are trying to collect pairs of matching cards, and the child with the most matches at the end of the game wins!

Children will take turns trying to get cards to match the cards already in their hand by asking one other child in the circle or by taking a card from the draw pile. A child can ask any other child in the circle, “Do you have a (insert Quest animal) card?” If the other child has the card, he or she must give it to the child who asked. If the other child does not have the card, he or she will say, “Go Fish!” and the child who asked can take a card from the top of the draw pile.

Any time a child has two matching cards, both cards can be placed face-up on the floor. The game ends when all matches have been made. If a child runs out of cards before then, he or she can ask for any card they choose on their next turn. If the draw pile runs out before the game ends, children’s turn will end if the child they asked doesn’t have the requested card. The child with the most matches at the end of the game is the winner!

FOLLOW THE LEADER

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: color die (1), foam die (1)
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and form a large circle around the eGroup space.
What you say: “This month we’ll spend most of our time learning to follow the best leader ever — JESUS! But for this activity, you will all get to take turns being the leader. You’ll lead the group in acting out different parts of a fishing adventure!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns being the leader. The leader will stand in the center of the circle and roll two dice — a color die and a foam die. The color die will tell which action to complete, and the foam die will tell how many times to perform the action.
Choose a child to be the leader and encourage the leader to stand in the middle and roll both dice. Use the chart below to tell the leader what action to lead the group in performing according to the color shown on the color die, replacing the [#] with the number rolled on the foam die. After each action, choose a different child to stand in the middle and be the leader.

GET TO KNOW YOU

FISHY QUESTIONS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: question fish (12), net (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Shuffle the question fish and place them in the net.
What you say: “This month we’re learning about what it means to follow the greatest leader who ever lived! Do you know who I’m talking about? (Pause for children to respond.) That’s right; we’re going to learn to follow Jesus! Before we get started, let’s take turns catching some fish while we get to know each other better!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should “catch” one of the fish from the fishing net and hand it to you. Read a question from the back of the fish card and encourage the child to answer.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about someone who made the choice to follow Jesus!”

What you need: net (1)
What you do: Seat children in a line on one side of the eGroup space.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us Jesus wants us to follow Him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

That child will hide the net behind his/her back. As the child works to hide the net, call out, “Who can you follow?” Encourage children to respond, “I can follow Jesus!” Once they’re done responding, time is up for the net to be hidden! Encourage the child who stepped away from the group to turn around, open their eyes, and guess who they think has the net. If the child guesses correctly, lead the whole group in saying the verse together. If the child guesses incorrectly, encourage the child to choose to friends to stand and say the verse with him/her.

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND MAIN POINT CARD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster, main point cards (1 per child), glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned we can tell others Jesus is special.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “Following Jesus means doing what He does, like loving people the way He loves people or helping people the way He helps people. When I say your name, you tell me one way you can follow Jesus. It can be saying kind words like Jesus, sharing like Jesus, loving like Jesus, or even helping like Jesus. When we pray, we’ll use our list to ask God to help us follow Jesus so we can do the things Jesus does. So, when I say your name, tell me one way you can follow Jesus.” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)

“Let’s pray together and thank Him now! Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be our friend forever. Thank You that He wants us to follow Him so He can show us the best way to live. Please help (name each child) to follow You so we can (read the things they listed). We love You, God! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

FOLLOW, FOLLOW, FOLLOW ME

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Choose one child to be “It” first and ask that child to stand outside the circle.
What you say: “We’re going to play, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ but instead of saying the words, ‘Duck, Duck, Goose,’ like the normal game, we’ll say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’ We’ll also practice our main point. If I ask you, ‘What can you tell others?’ you can answer, ‘I can tell others Jesus is special.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: The child who is “It” will walk around the circle lightly patting the sitting children’s heads while saying the words “Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.” The child should say one word per head. When “It” says the word “me,” “It” will walk fast around the circle while the child whose head was patted on “me” gets up and walks fast after “It.”“It” will try to take a seat in the spot of the second child. If “It” makes it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, the second child will now be “It.” If “It” does not make it to the second child’s seat without getting caught, ask the child, “What can you tell others?” Encourage the child to answer, “I can tell others Jesus is special,” before the child takes the second child’s seat. The second child is now “It.” Continue with the activity until every child has had a turn to be “It.”
What you say: “Everyone sit in a circle. (Pause.) Perfect! One person will be ‘It’ and will walk around the circle gently patting heads while saying, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me.’ Watch me! (Demonstrate.) When you touch someone’s head and say the word ‘me,’ start walking very fast around the circle to try to beat them back to their spot. (Demonstrate.) If you don’t beat them back, I’ll ask you, ‘What can you tell others?’ and you’ll answer, ‘I can tell others Jesus is special!’
If you are sitting in the circle and someone touches your head and says the word ‘me,’get up and start walking fast after the person that touched you to see if you can catch them.
Are you ready? (Pause.) Remember to say, ‘Follow, Follow, Follow, Me!’”
