Kid Connect

MAZE AND COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, maze activity page set (12 pages)

What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a maze activity page from the set.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage children to help the Quest animal on their activity page find its way back to the Clubhouse. Assist them as needed. As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day. If children finish their mazes early, they can color the coloring sheet on the back of the activity page.

eGL Tip: For younger groups who may struggle with the maze, children can skip the maze and begin with the coloring page.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

OATS FOR OLLIE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: giant game board, oats pieces (40), spinner, Ollie piece, obstacle cone pieces (3)

What you do: Place the game board in the center of the group and put Ollie on the “Start” space. Scatter the oats pieces around the game board (not on the path). Place obstacle cone pieces on any three spaces along the path.

What you say: “Ollie is heading back to the Clubhouse, and he’s pretty hungry! We need to work together to gather all the oats before Ollie gets to the Clubhouse so he’ll have plenty to eat.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain children will all be working together. This game is cooperative, not competitive, so everyone wins or loses together.

Children will take turns spinning the spinner and then moving Ollie along the path to the next space that matches the picture on the spinner. As they move, the whole group should count aloud the number of spaces moved. Collect that many oats pieces from anywhere on the game board and stack them on the Clubhouse. If the spinner lands on the eGroup Leader, the eGroup Leader will take one oats piece from the Clubhouse.

If Ollie lands on a space showing the Quest animal with oats, the group can put one extra oats piece on the Clubhouse. If Ollie lands on a space with an obstacle cone piece, before moving on everyone must stand up and jump as high as they can over a pretend cone.

When Ollie reaches the Clubhouse, the game is over. If all the oats pieces are in the Clubhouse by the time he gets there, everyone wins!

OBSTACLE COURSE BOOT CAMP

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Encourage children to stand up, find a buddy, and spread out around the eGroup space.

What you say: “We’re going to train alongside our Wonder! Clubhouse friends for ‘The Zig Zag Zone’ – the most awesome obstacle course race ever!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “If we’re going to be the fastest team to get through the Zig Zag Zone, we need to train ourselves to get through all the obstacles quickly! Each of you has a buddy you’ll train with today. When we’re done with training, the buddy pair that does the best job completing these obstacles will be today’s Zig Zag Zone Training Winners!”

  • “Everyone step with your knees up high like you’re running through tires!”
  • “Everyone pretend to climb a high wall!”
  • “Everyone pretend to jump over three giant hurdles!”
  • “Everyone pretend like you’re racing up the stairs!”
  • “Everyone step side-to-side like you’re zig-zagging between cones!”
  • “Everyone pretend to climb a giant net!”
  • “Everyone walk across a zig-zag balance beam without falling over!”

GET IN THE ZONE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: large die, obstacle cards

What you do: Seat children in a circle and spread the obstacle cards across the center of the eGroup.

What you say: “This month we’re learning about some of the many ways God helps us. No matter what happens or how many obstacles seem to be in our way, God is with us and He loves to help us! We’re going to hear about all the ways God helped a great king named David and how He’ll help us in the same ways, but before we do that let’s get to know each other better.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. Tell the child to roll the die and then answer a question from the back of the obstacle card that corresponds with the number he/she rolled.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules) 
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Bible story cards (3), Bible story stickers

What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story from the Bible story cards. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “Who did King Saul bring to work in his palace?” (David)
  2. “Who did David meet in the palace?” (Jonathan)
  3. “Were David and Jonathan friends or enemies?”(friends)
  4. “Who was going to have to move away: David or Jonathan?” (David)

What you say: “Saying goodbye to our friends can be hard, but God can help us do hard things, just like he helped David and Jonathan. Who can help you?” (God can help me.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory verse cards

What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God is always with us to help us!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.

What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”

  • “Say the verse in a high voice, like you’re jumping high to get over a cone!”
  • “Say the verse in a low voice, like you’re crawling low under a rope!”
  • “Say the verse in an out-of-breath voice, like you just finished an obstacle course!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Fantastic job, everyone! We can overcome any obstacle because God is always there to help us!”

What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

VERSE OBSTACLES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: obstacle cards (cone, hula hoop, and tire only), large die, memory verse cards

What you do: Place the three obstacle cards on the floor in front of you. Encourage children to stand and spread out around the eGroup space.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After practicing together, explain children will play “Verse Obstacles” to practice the memory verse. There are three different obstacles shown on the ground. Each round, children will choose one of this obstacles. If they choose the cone, they can put their arms in a triangle over their head. If they choose the hula hoop, they should put their hands on their hips. If they choose the tire, they should hop from foot to foot.

Roll the die. If it lands on 1, 2, or 3, any children doing the movement for that obstacle should say the verse together. If it lands on 4 or 5, all children should say the verse together. If it lands on 6, the eGroup Leader should say the verse. Continue rolling to choose children to say the verse as long as time allows.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Great job! We can overcome any obstacle because God will help us!”

What you say: “Sometimes we all have to do things that are hard, but I’m so thankful God helps us do hard things! Let’s think about some of the hard things we might have to do.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Use the whiteboard marker to draw the objects listed below. Encourage children to hug or high-five a friend when they know what you are drawing. Once children have guessed correctly, read the instructions given by the object.

  • SHOE: “It can be hard to tie your shoes, but God can help you by giving you patience while you are learning how! Tap your shoes if you think God can help you learn to tie your shoes.”
  • BROCCOLI: “It can be hard to eat foods you don’t think you like, but God can help you by giving you courage to try them anyway! Rub your belly if you think God can help you try things you don’t think you like.”
  • BANDAID: “It can be hard to be brave when you’re hurt, but God can help you by giving you strength to get up and shake it off! Shake your whole body if you think God can help you be brave when you’re hurt.”
  • BIKE: “It can be hard to learn how to ride a bike, but God can help you by giving you people to help you learn! Move your arms in big circles if you think God can help you learn new things like riding a bike.”
  • CHAIR: “It can be hard to sit still when you’re supposed to, but God can help you by giving you self-control! Self-control means you can choose to do the right thing. Be still like a statue if you think God can help you show self-control.”
  • BLOCKS: “It can be hard to clean up your toys by yourself, but God can help you by giving you joy even when you have to do something that isn’t fun! Wave your arms if you think God can help you do a job even if it isn’t very fun.”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “We have to do hard things all the time, but we don’t have to do them alone! God is always there to help us. Who can help you?” (God can help me.)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND MAIN POINT CARD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster, main point cards (1 per child), glue, Sharpie marker

What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned God can help me do hard things. God helped David say goodbye to his very best friend, Jonathan. It was hard, but God was with David and He helped David do it anyway! Let’s think about our closest friends and remember how God can help us do hard things, too.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Today we’re going to make a list of our special friends. These are the friends you play with a lot and would be so sad if you ever had to say goodbye to them forever. When I say your name, tell me your closest friend’s name and I’ll write it down. When we pray, we can ask God to help us be a good friend and thank Him for helping us do hard things.” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)

“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank you for special friends. Thank you for giving (say each child’s name and the friend he/she listed). Please help us be good friends to all our special friends. And God, thank you for giving us Jesus—the best, most special friend EVER—and for helping us do hard things. You are so good to us, God. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!

Today’s main point card says, ‘God can help me do hard things.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW WONDER! CLUBHOUSE POSTER: Give the child a poster and glue the main point card on it. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned God can help us do hard things!”

What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

PRACTICE THE POINT

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: obstacle cards (6), large foam die

What you do: Spread all the obstacle cards around the eGroup area.

What you say: “When we want to win an obstacle course race, we practice running through the obstacles. When we come to Quest, we want to learn something important about God, so our main points tell us the most important thing to remember. In this game we’re going to practice our main point together until we’re ready to take on every zig and zag that comes our way!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Tell children to choose one of the obstacles to stand behind. Once all children are standing behind an obstacle, roll the dice. All children standing behind the obstacle with that number must “complete” (act out) that obstacle according to the directions below while saying the main point (“God can help me do hard things.”). Continue as long as time allows.

  • CONE (1): Children behind the cone should zig and zag back and forth like they’re moving between cones.
  • HULA HOOPS (2): Children behind the hula hoops should take wide jumps like they’re jumping from one giant hula hoop to the next.
  • TIRE (3): Children behind the tire should hop from foot to foot with their knees high like they’re hopping across the tires.
  • NET (4): Children behind the net should pretend to climb up a giant net.
  • LADDER (5): Children behind the ladder should jump with both feet as if they’re jumping in the spaces of a ladder lying on the ground.
  • FLAG (6): Children behind the flag should jump high like they’re trying to grab the flag.
