WHAT IS KID CONNECT?
KID CONNECT is all about eGROUP CONNECTIONS: for you to make connections with your eGroup and for the kids to make connections with each other. Activities are listed in the order they are to be completed. It’s okay if you don’t complete all the activities – some activities will work better for your group than others. Begin Kid Connect when doors open. KID CONNECT ENDS WHEN THE WORSHIP EXPERIENCE BEGINS.

QUEST COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, coloring page, die
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

Extension Activities

    • Use a die to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Roll the die again and switch crayon colors.
    • Use the number die to determine how many items to color with a certain color crayon. Allow children to color the number of items then roll the die again.
  • Have children take turns rolling the die. Children will compete to be the first to color their coloring page, coloring the number of items rolled each turn.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the coloring pages and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

KID CONNECT

DIVE IN

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you do: seat all children in wide circle
What you say: “We’re going to pretend we’re sitting around a big ocean! When I call out something that describes you, you’re going to stand up and swim through the ocean to switch seats with someone else who dives in with you!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Call out characteristics of some of the children in your group (“Take a swim if you have black hair/red shoes/are wearing a dress/like to eat chocolate/etc.!”) one at a time. Encourage children who share that characteristic to “swim” through the middle of the group and switch places. Every three to four characteristics, call out, “Dive in!” and encourage all children to “swim” to a new spot around the circle.

KID CONNECT

QUEST SPOT IT

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Quest Spot It Cards
What you do: Make sure children are seated in a tight circle so each child can see a card set in the center of the circle. Place one card FACE DOWN in front of each child, then put the rest of the cards in a stack face up in the center of the circle.
What you say: “Today we’re going to play ‘Quest Spot It,’ a game where we’ll be spotting things we see every week in Quest – our Quest animals, things from the Clubhouse, and even some of our favorite Wonder Clubhouse friends!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain the goal of the game is to collect the most cards. At the same time, tell all children to flip over the card in front of them. Each child will try to spot the one symbol that appears both on their own card and on the card in the center. The first child to do so will call out the matching picture and then take the center card, placing it on top of the card in front of them to build a personal pile. That child then begins using the new top card on their personal pile to find a match with the center card. Repeat this process each time a new center card is revealed. Play continues until no cards remain in the draw pile. The child with the most cards wins!

eGL TIP: Tell children they can point and call out descriptions (“owl,” “blue animal,” “mailman,” etc.) if they don’t know the characters’ or objects’ actual names.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Wow! You guys spotted those pictures so quickly! What was your favorite picture you spotted today?” (Pause to allow children to share.)

GET TO KNOW YOU

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: die, leader card, Quest animal stickers
What you say: “This month as we dive into God’s Word, we’re learning we can always believe what God says and trust Him because He loves us!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Roll the die and introduce yourself. Read the question from the leader card that corresponds to the color you rolled and share your answer with the eGroup. Encourage each child to roll the die, introduce themselves, and answer the corresponding question.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)  
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to dive into our Bible story and hear something exciting that God wants to teach us today!”

BIBLE CONNECT

WHAT IS BIBLE CONNECT?

BIBLE CONNECT is all about BIBLE CONNECTIONS: for kids to make connections with the Bible and learn to love the Bible! Children will make connections to the Bible in two ways: by hearing and talking about the Bible story and practicing the memory verse. Begin Bible Connect after the Get To Know You activity. AFTER BIBLE CONNECT CHILDREN HEAD TO FREE PLAY AND LARGE GROUP.

NOAH (GOD’S PLAN)

Genesis 6:8-33, 7:1-24

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, water creature stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story on pages 32-37 from the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “How did God feel when people stopped obeying Him?” (sad)
  2. “What did God decide to cover the Earth with?” (water, a flood) 
  3. “Who did God promise to keep safe?” (Noah and his family, animals) 
  4. “What did God tell Noah to build?” (a big boat)
  5. “Did Noah believe what God said and build the boat?” (yes)
  6. “Were there just a few animals on the boat with Noah and his family, or did God save 2 of every kind of animal?” (God saved 2 of every kind of animal.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Once Noah, his family, and two of every kind of animal were on the boat, God closed the door and the rain started to POUR! Soon the ark was floating, and there was SO MUCH water! It covered everything on the whole Earth. Noah and the animals were safe because Noah trusted God and believed God would keep him safe if he obeyed. We can trust God and believe what He says, too, just like Noah!”

BIBLE CONNECT

Choose one of the memory verse activity options to help children learn and practice the Bible verse together.

NOTE: Children cannot receive a memory verse card week one of the series.

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies
What you say: “This month we’re learning about how we can always trust God, no matter what. Our verse helps us remember to trust Him completely.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.

What you say: “I am going to say our new memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Great job! I think you’re ready to say our verse in some silly voices now.”

  • “Say the verse in a loud voice, like you’re trying to yell all the way across the ocean!”
  • “Say the verse in a quiet voice, like you’re trying not to scare away the fish!”
  • “Say the verse in a silly underwater voice!” (Move your finger up and down rapidly between your lips while you say the words.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Awesome job, everyone! This verse tells us we can always trust God!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

 

 

BIBLE CONNECT

MISSING WORD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: fish cutout
What you say: “Let’s see how well you know Proverbs 3:5! Can you figure out the missing word?”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do:Say the verse by yourself, but replace one word with a long pause and cover your face with the fish cut-out when you pause. For example: “‘Trust the (pause, cover face) with all your heart,’ Proverbs 3:5.” Ask the children to think and try to say the missing word. (The answer would be “Lord.”) After the children have guessed the missing word, say the whole verse with the children. Continue with the activity, leaving out a different word each time.

What you say: “I’m going to say the memory verse, but I’m going to leave out one of the words. Instead of saying the word, I am going to put this fish in front of my face. (Demonstrate.) Your job is to figure out which word I am leaving out. Let’s practice first. If I was going to say ice cream I would say ‘(pause, cover face) cream.’ Which word did I leave out? (Pause.) Yes! I left out ‘ice.’ Now let’s try it with our memory verse. ‘Trust the (pause, cover face) with all your heart,’ Proverbs 3:5. Do you know which word I left out? (Pause.) You are right! I left out ‘Lord.’ Great job! Now let’s say all say the verse correctly. ‘Trust the Lord with all your heart,’ Proverbs 3:5. Awesome! Now I am going to do the same thing, but this time I’ll leave out a different word. Are you ready?” (Continue with activity.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Great job figuring out the missing words! I’m so thankful we can always trust God!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

YOU CONNECT is about the eGroup leader (YOU!) helping children make connections with the main point and their lives. You Connect activities reinforce the main point with fun and engaging activities. BEGIN YOU CONNECT AFTER LARGE GROUP.

GOD’S PROMISES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: animal masks, animal cards, leader sheet
What you do: Give each child an animal mask to wear. Make sure pairs of animal masks are given out (two bunnies, two giraffes, etc.) as this will be important in a later activity. Spread out the animal cards in the center of the group.

What you say: “Look closely at these animals! I’m going to take one away soon; let’s see if you can remember them well enough to know which one is missing!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Ask children to close their eyes. Pick up the bunny card and hide it face-down behind you. Encourage children to guess which animal is missing. Once they figure out which one is missing, return the bunny card and read the promise by the bunny on the leader sheet. If the children believe God keeps that promise, encourage them to act like the animal on their mask! Continue the activity by removing the other animals shown on the leader sheet one at a time.

What you say: “I hope you can remember all of these animals! Now everyone close your eyes while I hide one animal. (Wait for children to close their eyes, then remove the bunny.) Open your eyes! Do you know which one is missing? (Allow children to guess until they get it right.) That’s right! The bunny was missing! I’m so glad you remembered, just like God remembers His promise to always be with us. If you believe God will always be with us, I want you to act like the animal on your animal mask!” (Continue with the activity until you’ve hidden and discussed each of the six animals on the leader sheet, replacing the underlined promise above with the new promise from the leader sheet for each animal.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “God makes so many great promises to us in the Bible, and we can trust that He will always keep His promises to us! We can always believe what He says.”
What you do: Encourage children to sit their animal masks on the floor behind them and leave them alone until it’s time to use them again.

YOU CONNECT

eKidz JOURNAL / COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz prayer journal, pen, collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “Today we learned we can believe what God says! Now it’s time to write in our eGroup prayer journal and pray together.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eKidz prayer journal (or a journal page if you don’t have your eKidz prayer journal) and pen. Write each child’s name so you can pray for them throughout the week, then record the children’s responses. Pray with the group.

What you say: “I’ve written each of your names on this page. I need each of you to choose your favorite color crayon and then draw a heart beside your name. Then when we pray, we will ask God to help us trust Him with all of our heart and believe what He says!” (Help children draw hearts as needed.)

“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, we want to trust You with ALL of our heart, not just some of it. We want to believe what You say and obey, like Noah did, even when we don’t understand. Please help (name each child) and me to have the courage and wisdom to always believe You and do what You say. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize!

Today’s main point card says, ‘I can believe what God says.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO HAVE NOT RECEIVED A COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned because God loves us, we can always believe what He says!”
What you do: Take your eKidz prayer journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

YOU CONNECT

FIND YOUR MATCH

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: animal masks (from “God’s Promises” activity), whiteboard, whiteboard marker, eraser
What you do: Ask children to put their animal masks back on.
What you say: “God told Noah to put two of each animal on the ark. When I draw the animal on your mask, you’re going to find your animal match and walk around our group, just like the animals walked onto the ark two-by-two!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “I’m going to draw one of your animals on my whiteboard. As soon as you think you know what it is, yell it out! If you guess right and I’m drawing the animal on your mask, find the other animal who matches you as quickly as you can and then walk around the circle together!”
What you do: Use the whiteboard marker to draw one of the animals from your children’s animal masks on the whiteboard. When a child correctly guesses the animal you’re drawing, encourage the children wearing that animal mask to find each other and walk side-by-side around the circle. Continue until all animals represented in your group have been drawn.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “You walked around our group two-by-two, just like the animals on Noah’s ark! God told Noah He would save Noah, his family, and the animals, and God kept His promise! We can always believe what God says!”
