Kid Connect

HIDDEN PICTURE PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, hidden picture pages

What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a hidden picture page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show children the illustrations along the side of the picture that show the hidden objects to look for. As children color the picture, encourage them to see if they can find any of the hidden objects. If a child finds a hidden object, encourage them to share where it is with the rest of the group and have all children circle it on their hidden picture pages.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

GO FISH

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Quest playing cards

What you do: Seat children in a circle. Place three playing cards face down in front of each child. Tell children they can look at their cards, but not to let anyone else see their cards.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain children are trying to collect pairs of matching cards, and the child with the most matches at the end of the game wins!

Children will take turns trying to get cards to match the cards already in their hand by asking one other child in the circle or by taking a card from the draw pile. A child can ask any other child in the circle, “Do you have a (insert Quest animal) card?” If the other child has the card, he or she must give it to the child who asked. If the other child does not have the card, he or she will say, “Go Fish!” and the child who asked can take a card from the top of the draw pile.

Any time a child has two matching cards, both cards can be placed face-up on the floor. The game ends when all matches have been made. If a child runs out of cards before then, he or she can ask for any card they choose on their next turn. If the draw pile runs out before the game ends, children’s turn will end if the child they asked doesn’t have the requested card. The child with the most matches at the end of the game is the winner!

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: large die (1)

What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup space. Explain they will follow your instructions and try to be the last child standing. If you roll the numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6, certain children will have to sit down according to the instructions below. Each instruction has multiple options listed; choose a different one each time you roll that number. Any time you roll the number 1, all children can stand back up.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Listen carefully to hear if you should sit down or stay standing. You want to try to be the last person standing. Anytime I roll the number one, we’ll all stand up and cheer, ‘Jesus is#1!’”

  • If you roll a ‘2’: “If you’re wearing [blue/green/red/pink/yellow/orange/purple], sit down!”
  • If you roll a ‘3’: “If you have [2/3/4/5/6] people living in your house, sit down!”
  • If you roll a ‘4’: “If your favorite color is [blue/green/red/pink/yellow/orange/purple], sit down!”
  • If you roll a ‘5’: “If you’re wearing [tennis shoes/sandals/shoes with laces/fancy shoes/shoes with a TV character], sit down!”
  • If you roll a ‘6’: “If you [go to preschool/go to kindergarten/go to daycare/stay home with your mom or dad/have a nanny who takes care of you/stay with a grandparent during the day], sit down!”
  • If you roll a ‘1’: “Everyone stand up and cheer, ‘Jesus is #1!’”

 

What you do: Continue rolling the die and reading the instructions for each number until one child is left standing. This child is the winner!

Get to Know You

THE ONE THING

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: large die, leader sheet

What you do: Place the die in the center of the eGroup.

What you say: “This month we’re learning Jesus is the best. He’s #1! Let’s get to know each other better by sharing some of the things we like best.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain that after each child introduces themselves, they will roll the die and answer a question. Read aloud one of the questions on the leader sheet that corresponds to the number the child rolled and encourage the child to answer. Continue until all children have been introduced.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)  
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

a (insert group name) (allow response)

I will (allow response)

be kind and safe! (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about Jesus because He is the best!”

PALM SUNDAY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers

What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 409-414 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
-“What did Jesus tell His friends to find and bring to Him?” (a donkey)
-“Who rode on the donkey?” (Jesus)
-“Did Jesus ride the donkey to Bethlehem or Jerusalem?” (Jerusalem)
-“What did people lay on the road for Jesus’ donkey to ride across?” (tree branches and coats)
-“Who were the people singing and shouting praises to?” (Jesus)
-“Did the children sing and shout praises to Jesus, too?” (yes)
-“Did Jesus love to hear the children praising Him?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Jesus is the best! We can praise Him anytime we want to! It does not matter how old we are or where we are, we can always praise Jesus because He’s the best. Who is the best?” (Jesus is the best!)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you say: “Our Bible verse says God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to save us! Let’s practice our verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.

What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices! Say the verse in your best [loud/quiet/silly/squeaky] voice!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “You guys are the best at saying your verse in different voices! But our memory verse tells us Jesus is the very best because God sent Him to save us!”

What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

VERSE CORNERS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Quest playing cards, large die

What you do: Take one of each of the following cards from the deck of cards: a 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Spread these cards out around the edge of the eGroup space.

What you say: “Our Bible verse says God loves us so much that He gave His only Son to save us! Let’s practice our verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After practicing together, explain children will play “Verse Corners” to practice the memory verse. There are five different corners around the eGroup space marked with the playing cards. Each child will choose a playing card to stand behind. When you roll the die, any children standing behind the card with that number will say the verse together. Children will then choose a new card to stand behind and you will roll the die again. Repeat until all children have had the opportunity to say the verse.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Our memory verse tells us Jesus is the very best because God sent Him to save us!”

What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

WAYS TO PRAISE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: parachute

What you do: Spread the parachute across the center of the eGroup space and seat children around the parachute.

What you say: “In today’s Bible story people welcomed and praised Jesus as He came to Jerusalem. Jesus might not be riding a donkey into our city, but we have lots of reasons to celebrate and praise Him, too! He takes care of us and He loves us so much. Let’s think about some of the ways we can praise Jesus.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain children will listen for ways we can praise Jesus. If you describe a way to praise Jesus, children will stand up and raise the parachute over their heads. If it’s not a way to praise Jesus, children will face out of the circle and sit on the edge of the parachute.

What you say: “Listen carefully for ways we can praise Jesus!”
-“We can praise Jesus by singing worship songs.”
-“We can praise Jesus by taking toys away from our friends.”
-“We can praise Jesus by reading the Bible.”
-“We can praise Jesus by telling our moms ‘no’ when they ask us to clean up our toys.”
-“We can praise Jesus by praying to Jesus and telling Him thank You.”
-“We can praise Jesus by jumping on the furniture in our home.”
-“We can praise Jesus by dancing to worship music.”
-“We can praise Jesus by knocking over a friend’s block tower.”
-“We can praise Jesus by telling other people how much Jesus loves them.”
-“We can praise Jesus by hiding our brother or sister’s favorite book from them.”
-“We can praise Jesus by being kind to others because that’s what Jesus wants us to do.”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “There are so many ways we can praise Jesus! Jesus deserves our praise because He loves us so much and He gives us what we need. Who is the best?” (Jesus is the best!)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker, eKidz eGroup prayer journal

What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned we can praise Jesus. Let’s think about some ways we can praise Jesus and show Him how much we love Him.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Today we’re going to think of ways we can show Jesus how happy we are He wants to be our friend forever. We can do things like sing songs to Him, go to church like we did today, talk to Him, and love people the way He loves them! Think about one way you want to show Jesus how happy you are He wants to be your friend forever. When I say your name, tell me what you want to do and I’ll write it beside your name. We can use our list when we pray. (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)

“These are great ideas, everyone. Let’s close our eyes and talk to God. We can ask God to help us do these things. Dear God, thank You for loving us so much that You gave us Jesus to be our friend forever. We want Jesus to know how happy we are to have Him as our friend. Please help [child’s name] to [say action listed] and . . . (repeat for each child) . . . so we can show how happy we are to have Jesus as our friend. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample collectible poster.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!

Today’s main point card says, ‘We can praise Jesus.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned we can praise Jesus!”

What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

OLLIE SAYS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup space. Explain children will follow your instructions anytime you start them with “Ollie says,” but if you don’t say it, they should freeze. Children should keep doing the action until you give the next instruction. If a child follows the instruction when you haven’t said, “Ollie says,” he or she will sit down for the next two instructions.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say:
-“Ollie says to hop on ONE foot.”
-“Ollie says to wave ONE arm in the air in giant circles.”
-“Ollie says to clap using just ONE finger on each hand.”
-“Stomp ONE foot as loudly as you can.”
-“Ollie says to stand on ONE foot and hold the other leg in front of you.”
-“Ollie says to pat the floor with ONE hand.”
-“Move ONE of your arms in a tiny circle.”
