KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages, Quest animal check-in sheet
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page. Write children’s names and tag numbers on the Quest animal check-in sheet.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

ANCHORS AWAY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and spread out around the eGroup space.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain you will call out an action for children to act out. They should not begin pretending to perform the action until you say, “Anchors away!” Once they hear that, children will act it out until you call out, “Drop your anchors!” When children hear that instruction, they should immediately race to sit down and curl up in a ball like a heavy anchor. The last child to sit down and curl up will have to return to shore (sit on the eGroup rug) for the next two actions.
Actions:
Climb up the rope ladder to get on your boat!
Push your heavy boat away from the shore!
Pull on the ropes to raise your sails!
Steer the boat out into deeper water!
Cast a fishing net out into the water!
Lean over the edge of the boat and pull the fishing net back in!
Dive off the edge of the boat and swim with the dolphins!
Backstroke back to the boat!
Climb back in the boat and try to shake off all the water!
Try to keep your balance while a storm rocks the boat back and forth!
Steer away from the storm as fast as you can!
Dig through your backpack to find your map!
Turn the boat to one side as hard as you can and head back to shore!

GET TO KNOW YOU

GET TO KNOW YOUR CREW

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: sailor hat (1), boat cards (12)
What you do: Seat children in a circle. Put the boat cards in the sailor hat.
What you say: “Ahoy there, sailors! This month we’re sailing away on an adventure to learn about what it means to go God’s way, because God’s way is perfect! But before we set sail, we need to get to know the rest of our crew!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should choose a boat card from the sailor hat. Read the question from the back of the card and encourage the child to answer.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert animal group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about someone who helped others go God’s way!”

BIBLE CONNECT

YOUNG KING JOSIAH
2 CHRONICLES 34

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Beginner’s Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 235-239 in the Beginner’s Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“How old was Josiah when he became king?” (eight years old)
“Did Josiah love God?”(yes)
“Were the kings before Josiah good or bad?”(bad)
“Was the temple in Jerusalem in good shape, or was it falling apart?”
(It was falling apart.)
“Who decided to fix up the temple?” (King Josiah)
“What did the workers find hidden in the wall while they were working on the temple?” (a scroll)
“What did the scroll teach about? Did it teach about God’s laws or the stories of the bad kings?” (It taught about God’s laws.)
“Did Josiah and his people choose to obey God’s laws?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “King Josiah was so happy when the workers found the scroll with God’s laws in the temple! Josiah wanted to live God’s way, and he knew he could live God’s way by following God’s laws. Whose way is perfect?”
(God’s way is perfect.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies, memory verse cards
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us God’s way is perfect. We should always go His way, no matter what, because it is perfect!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse like you’re under water!” (Wiggle your fingers between your lips while saying it.)
“Say the verse really fast, like you’re in a speedboat!”
“Say the verse in a deep voice, like you’re sailing over deep water!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! We can trust God’s way because it is perfect!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

FINISH THE VERSE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: boat cards (12), memory verse cards
What you do: Create a large circle on the floor with the boat cards. Ask each child to stand behind a boat card (around the outside of the circle).

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will walk around the circle as you clap a steady beat, stepping from one card to the next as you clap. (Remind children to stand behind the cards, not on them.) When you stop clapping and call out,”Drop your anchors!” all children should freeze behind one of the boat cards.
Once each child is behind a boat card, call out a color. All children behind that color boat should say the memory verse together. Once they’ve finished, begin clapping again and repeat the activity as long as time and interest allow.

MATCHING

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: matching cards (16)
What you do: Seat children in a circle around the eGroup space. Arrange the cards in a four-by-four grid on the floor in the center of the eGroup.
What you say: “We want to go God’s way, because we know God’s way is perfect. We can help others go God’s way, too, but we might have to help them understand what God’s way is first! Let’s think about some ways we can help others go God’s way.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns turning over two cards. If the two cards match, read the prompt below that corresponds to the matching cards. The child can hold onto the two cards until the end of the game. If the two cards do not match, the child will return them to the same spots, face-down. If a child matches two scroll cards, encourage all children to give a friend a hug or a high-five and yell, “I can help others go God’s way!”
What you say: (As a match is found, read the prompt below for that match.)
BROTHER/SISTER: “You can help your brother or sister go God’s way by encouraging them to obey, even when your mom asks you to do something you don’t want to do. If you can help your brother or sister obey, give two thumbs up!”
GRUMPY CHILD: “If your friend is whining or complaining, you can help your friend go God’s way by reminding him or her that God wants us to choose to be grateful. If you can help your friend remember to be grateful, clap your hands three times!”
UNKIND CHILD: “When you see someone being unkind, you can help them go God’s way by reminding them that God wants us to be kind to everyone. If you can help someone be kind, wave your arms in the air!”
TEACHER: “If your teacher thanks you for being a good helper, you can tell her you love to help others because that’s the way God wants us to live! If you can show others how to go God’s way by being a great helper, pat your knees four times!”
CHILDREN FIGHTING OVER TOY: “When you see friends fighting over a toy, you can help them go God’s way by reminding them that God wants us to share. If you can help your friends share, spin around in your spot!”
BROKEN PHONE: “It’s not always easy to tell the truth, but God wants us to do it anyway. When your dad thanks you for telling the truth about accidentally breaking his phone, you can tell him you chose truth because that’s God’s way! If you can help others choose truth, too, give yourself a hug!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Since God’s way is perfect, we should help others go His way, too. Whose way is perfect?” (God’s way is perfect.)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND MAIN POINT CARD

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster, main point cards (1 per child), glue, Sharpie marker
What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned we can help others go God’s way.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “Josiah helped people go God’s way by letting them know God’s way is perfect. We can do that too, right? (Pause for response.) Of course we can! That’s why we are going to make a list of people we can help go God’s way. When I say your name, tell me one person you can help go God’s way by telling them God’s way is perfect. Ready? Listen for your name!” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
“Thank you for helping make this list. We can pray that God will give us the courage to help them go God’s way, the way Josiah helped people go God’s way, because God’s way is perfect. Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for loving us enough to teach us Your way. Your way is perfect, and we want everyone to know. Please help [child’s name] tell [name they listed] that your way is perfect and . . . (repeat this for each child). You are the best, God, and we love You very much! In Jesus’ name, amen.”
What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample Wonder! Clubhouse poster.
What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!
Today’s main point card says, ‘I can help others go God’s way.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your Wonder! Clubhouse poster at home.”
VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW WONDER! CLUBHOUSE POSTER: Give the child a poster and glue the main point card on it. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned we can help others go God’s way.”
What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

ACTION ROLL

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: color die (1), foam die (1), action card (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle.
What you say: “Each of you will have a turn to roll the color die and the foam die. I’ll use the dice and my special action card to tell you how many friends will say the main point with you and which special action you should do while you say it together! Our main point is, ‘I can help others go God’s way.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: One at a time, allow children to roll the color die and the foam die. The foam die will tell how many friends they should choose to say the main point with them, so encourage the child to choose that many friends to stand with them. Match the color on the action card to the color rolled on the color die to tell children which action to do while saying the main point. Repeat until all children have had a few turns to practice today’s main point. (I can help others go God’s way.)
