KID CONNECT

BIG COLORING PAGE COLLECTION

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: crayons, coloring page set (16 pages)

What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a page from the coloring page set. Explain that after they color, children will put all the pieces from the set together to form one picture that is SO BIG!

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Encourage children to help you as you arrange the pages children colored with any unused coloring pages from the set to form one large picture. Keep the large picture assembled as it will be used in the next activity.

I SPY

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: coloring sheets from previous activity, large pointer

What you say: “This picture is SO BIG! There are some smaller things hidden in our big picture. Let’s see if you can find them with our big pointer!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain children will search the puzzle to find the hidden objects one at a time. Each child will have a turn to hold the pointer and use it to show the rest of the group where the hidden object can be found. Once one child has found an object, encourage them to pass the pointer to the next child in the circle. When there is more than one of the same object, a child should point out just one object and then pass the pointer to another child. Continue until all objects have been found.

What you say: “All right, let’s see if you can find…”

  • “One waterfall!”
  • “Two parrots!”
  • “Three coconuts!”
  • “Four butterflies!”
  • “Five monkeys!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Set the coloring pages aside until the end of the worship experience. Children may take home the part of the picture they colored. Any leftover pages should be discarded.

OLLIE SAYS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Spread children out around the eGroup space. Explain children will follow your instructions anytime you start them with “Ollie says,” but if you don’t say it, they should freeze. DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you say:

  • “Ollie says to reach high like you’re trying to touch the top of a BIG building”
  • “Ollie says to pretend like you’re crawling through a SMALL cave.”
  • “Ollie says to jump like you’re trying to jump over a BIG rock.”
  • “Stomp your feet like you’re stepping on a SMALL bug.”
  • “Ollie says to pretend to play a BIG air guitar.”
  • “Ollie says to crawl like a SMALL baby.”
  • “Move your arms like they’re a pair of BIG scissors.”
  • “Pretend to eat a cookie that is as SMALL as a ladybug.”
  • “Ollie says to pretend to climb a BIG ladder.”
  • “Ollie says to pretend to pet a SMALL dog.”
  • “Ollie says to spin like you’re a BIG tornado.”
  • “Pretend to read a book that’s as SMALL as your thumb.”
  • “Ollie says to pretend to eat a piece of pizza that’s as BIG as your arm.”

  • “Jump around like you’re a BIG piece of popcorn.”

GET TO KNOW YOU

BIGGEST TO SMALLEST

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Quest animal cards

What you do: Shuffle the Quest animal cards and spread them around the center of the eGroup.

What you say: “This month we’re learning Jesus loves each of us in a big, BIG way! As we get to know each other today, we’ll talk about some of the biggest things we’ve seen or made and also some of the things we really love.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain that after each child introduces themselves, they will find the card in the center of the eGroup with the biggest Quest animal on it. The child should answer the question on the back of the card. Place that card outside of the circle and continue by encouraging the next child to introduce themselves and find the card with the biggest Quest animal remaining in the circle. Continue until all children have been introduced.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

a (insert group name) (allow response)

I will (allow response)

be kind and safe! (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .

Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about how Jesus showed love to someone!”

BIBLE CONNECT

THE THANKFUL WOMAN

LUKE 7:36-50

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: Bible story cards, Bible story stickers

What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story using the Bible story cards. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “Who were the people having a party for?” (Jesus)
  2. “The people at the party recognized the woman when she came in. Had she made a lot of good choices or bad choices?” (bad choices)
  3. “Were the people happy or shocked she sat down with Jesus?” (shocked)
  4. “Did Jesus let the woman stay with Him?” (yes)
  5. “How did the woman show she was thankful for Jesus?” (She washed His feet.)
  6. “Did Jesus love her even though she had made bad choices?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Jesus forgave the woman for her bad choices and let her wash His feet. Jesus loves us and will forgive us if we make bad choices, too. Tell me, who loves you?” (Jesus loves me.)

VERSE MOTIONS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory verse cards

What you say: “This month our Bible verse says Jesus’ love for us is wide and long and high and deep. Jesus’ love for us is SO BIG! Let’s practice our verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you three to four times using the motions.

What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Our memory verse tells us that Jesus loves us SO much that it cannot be measured! WOW! He loves us A LOT!”

What you do: Explain this is the last week children can recite this verse to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

VERSE VOLUME

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: memory verse cards

What you say: “This month our Bible verse says Jesus’ love for us is wide and long and high and deep. Jesus’ love for us is SO BIG! Let’s practice our verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different volumes. Demonstrate what volume children should use by stretching your arms wide for them to say it loudly or bringing your hands close together for them to say it quietly.

What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions.) We’re going to say it a few more times, but now you’ll have to watch my arms to see how loud to say it. When I make a BIG movement like this (stretch arms wide), you’ll say the verse in a BIG, loud voice. When I make a small movement like this (bring hands close together), you’ll say the verse in a small, quiet voice. Let’s try it!” (Lead children in saying the verse several times at different volumes.)

YOU CONNECT

CONNECT THE HEARTS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: activity sheets (6), Sharpie marker, leader sheet

What you say: “Let’s talk about times when Jesus shows He loves us no matter what!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Place the first activity sheet in front of you where all children can see it. Begin connecting the hearts with the Sharpie marker and encourage the children to call out what the picture is once they figure it out. Once you have finished connecting the hearts, read the prompt for that picture from the leader sheet and encourage children to respond. Repeat for all remaining activity sheets.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Jesus loves us when we’re happy and things are going well, and He also loves us when we’re sad or when bad things happen. Jesus loves us no matter what, and His love for us is SO BIG! Who loves you?” (Jesus loves me.)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker, eKidz eGroup prayer journal

What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned Jesus loves me no matter what. Let’s think some more about how Jesus loves us no matter what we say or do.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.

What you say: “The woman in our Bible story had done a lot of wrong things. Today I want you to think about one wrong thing you did this week. Maybe you took your brother’s toy without asking or you spoke unkindly to someone. I’m going to make a list of these things in my journal. When we’re done with our list, I’m going to do something with it that will make you smile!” (Write down children’s names and what they say.) “Thank you for sharing these with me. Are you ready to see what I’m going to do that will make you smile? Watch this!” (Draw a big ‘X’ over the list.) “Jesus’ love for you is SO big He can forgive you when you do something wrong. When you ask Him to forgive you, it’s like He crosses it out and it never happened! His love for you doesn’t change. It’s always SO BIG!”

“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for giving us Jesus. I pray that when we do wrong things, we will always ask Jesus to forgive us and know that He still loves us. I pray my friends (name each child) will grow up with thankful hearts because Jesus loves them no matter what. We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the collectible poster.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!

Today’s main point card says, ‘Jesus loves me no matter what.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Stand the children in a single file line.

When I turn around and call out, ‘FREEZE!’ your job is to freeze doing the last movement I did. If you aren’t doing the right movement when you freeze, you’ll need to yell, ‘JESUS LOVES ME’ in your biggest voice before I can start marching again.”

What you do: Start marching while doing one of the movements listed below. Stop occasionally to turn around and call out, “FREEZE.” Encourage any children not frozen in the most recent movement to yell out “JESUS LOVES ME” before beginning to march again.
