QUEST ANIMAL COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring page, block clock
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: As children color, get to know them by asking questions about their week or what they did or are planning to do that day.
Extension Activities: Take the block clock base out of the bag, leaving just the 12 blocks in the bag.
Option 1: Choose a clock block from the bag and use the color to determine the crayon color the group will use. Allow children 10-30 seconds to color using this color. Choose a new clock block and switch crayon colors.
Option 2: Choose a clock block from the bag and use the number to determine how many items to color. Allow children to color the number of items with a crayon, then choose a new clock block and a new crayon.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on the coloring pages and set them aside until they are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

TIME TO FIND OLLIE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards
What you do: Deal the cards evenly among the children by placing them in a face-down pile in front of each child. Stack any extra cards face-up in the center of the group.
What you say: “Our friend Ollie is hiding! Let’s see who can find him!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to take turns turning over the top card from their pile and placing the card face-up onto the pile in the middle. The next child will do the same. Play continues this way until someone turns over an Ollie card. When the children see Ollie, they will compete to be the first to “find” Ollie by covering the card with their hand. The child who finds Ollie first takes all the cards from the middle and puts them at the bottom of their stack. A child wins when they have collected all of the cards! (NOTE: If time runs out or if children are disengaging with the game, the player with the most cards can be declared the winner.)

TIME THAT MOVE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards, timing device
What you do: Shuffle the Quest playing cards and place them face down in front of you. Encourage children to spread out around the eGroup space. Explain you will call out a movement for them to perform until the timer goes off. Anyone who stops before time runs out has to stand still like a statue instead of doing the next movement!

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Turn over a playing card and use the number on the card to determine how long children will perform the movement. Call out one of the movements listed below, start the timer, and encourage children to perform the movement until the timer goes off. If a child stops before time runs out, ask that child to stand as still as a statue while children perform the next movement. The child can join back in with the movements on the following turn.
What you say: “Let’s see if you can keep moving the whole time!”
“Hop on one foot for (#) seconds!”
“Skip in place for (#) seconds!”
“March around the rug for (#) seconds!”
“Jog in place for (#) seconds!”
“Walk around the rug on your tiptoes for (#) seconds!”
“Pat your legs as fast as you can for (#) seconds!”
“Rub your tummy for (#) seconds!”
“Do your favorite dance move for (#) seconds!”
“High five other friends in our eGroup for (#) seconds!”
“Stand still on one foot for (#) seconds!”
“Clap your hands as fast as you can for (#) seconds!”
“Close your eyes and shake your head for (#) seconds!”

Get To Know You

TIME TO GET TO KNOW YOU

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: block clock, leader card
What you do: Give each child a block from the block clock and keep one for yourself. Place the block clock base in the center of the eGroup.
What you say: “This month we’re learning Jesus is always there when we need Him. When we’re happy or sad, scared or excited, sick or well, Jesus is with us all the time! As we get to know each other today, we’ll think about some of the good and not-so-good times we’ve been through, and we’ll remember Jesus is with us through all of them!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain that after each child introduces themselves, they will answer a question based on the color of their block. Introduce yourself to the group. Read the question for your block color from the leader card, answer the question, then return the block to its spot on the clock. Go around the circle, encouraging each child to introduce themselves and answer the question for their block color.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about a time when Jesus was there for someone at the exact moment they needed Him!”

HEALING THE DEAF MAN

MARK 7:32-37
BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Bible story cards, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from the Bible story cards. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“What was wrong with the man in this story?” (He couldn’t hear or talk.)
“Who was the only Person who could help the man?” (Jesus)
“Who helped the man get to Jesus?” (his friends)
“What did Jesus touch first?” (the man’s ears)
“What did Jesus touch after He spit?” (the man’s tongue)
“What did Jesus say after He touched the man’s ears and tongue?” (“Be opened!”)
“Was the man healed after Jesus helped him?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Imagine how frustrated the man would have been when he couldn’t hear or talk! That would have made it really tough for him to communicate with anyone. When Jesus helped the man by healing him, it changed his life! Is Jesus there to help us, too? (Yes!) Some of the time or all the time? (All the time!)”

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: memory verse cards
What you say: “Jesus is with us all the time! Our verse this month tells us Jesus is everything we could ever need. We can trust Him and follow what He says because He is always there for us.”
DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Jesus is everything we need because He’s there all the time! He’s there when we’re tired, when we’re surprised, when we’re scared, or when we’re excited. Let’s say our verse in some of those voices!
“Say the verse in tired voice!”
“Say the verse in a surprised voice!”
“Say the verse in a scared voices!”
“Say the verse in an excited voice!”
AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job! Jesus is with us all the time, and He is all we need!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

CHARADES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: activity cards (6), leader sheet
What you say: “We may not have the same needs as the man in the Bible story today, but we all still need help sometimes! Jesus is always there for us when we need help, and He has given us other people to help us as well. Let’s think about some situations where we might need help.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns acting things out while the rest of the group tries to guess what they’re acting out. Make sure children know they can’t talk while they act something out. Choose a child to go first and show only that child the picture on one of the activity cards. Whisper the description from the card to the child or offer suggestions for how to act it out if needed. Tell the child to silently act out what they see on the card and encourage the rest of the group to guess what the child is doing. Once children have guessed correctly, read the prompt for that picture from the leader sheet and encourage children to respond.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “There are lots of times when we need help. We have so many grown-ups and friends in our lives who can help us. And there is one Person who is always there to help, no matter what! Who is there when I need Him?” (Jesus is there when I need Him!)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker, eKidz eGroup prayer journal
What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned Jesus is there when we need help. Let’s think about some times Jesus has helped us before and tell Him thank you.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.
What you say: “Think about a time when you needed help. Maybe you asked Jesus for help and He helped you or sent someone to help You. Maybe you didn’t even ask but you got the help you needed anyway. Let’s write down some times we needed help and tell Jesus thank you for helping us when we need Him.” (Write down children’s names and what they say.)
“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to be with us all the time! And thank you that He loves to help us when we need Him, like when (read what children shared from journal). We know Jesus can help us because He’s with us all the time! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample collectible poster.
What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special new Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!
Today’s main point card says, ‘Jesus is there when I need help.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.”
VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Make sure to keep your poster in a place you can see it every day to help you remember what we learn in Quest and to spend time with Jesus. Today we learned Jesus is always there to help us when we need Him!”
What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

SILENT WORK

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: block clock
What you do: Give each child a clock block.
What you say: “Today in our Bible story we learned about a man who could not hear or talk. In this game, you can’t talk or hear your friends either!”
DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Tell children to hold their blocks out in front of them where they are easy to see. Whisper one of the below instructions to one child and encourage that child to help children get in the right order or groups without talking.
What you say: “There are lots of different ways I could put you in groups using the blocks you’re holding. I might want you to get in order by the numbers on your blocks, or I might want to put you in groups by color. But instead of telling you what I want you to do, I’m going to whisper it to just one friend and then they’ll help you figure out what to do. The tricky part is no one can talk except me! You’ll have to figure out how to communicate and work together without talking or hearing, just like the man in our Bible story!”
eGL Tip: It might help to demonstrate the first instruction by arranging the children yourself without talking so they can see how it’s done.
“Get everyone with a green block to stand up and everyone else to sit down.”
“Get everyone in a line with the blocks in order from smallest to biggest.”
“Get everyone with a blue block to stand up and everyone else to sit down.”
“Stand anyone with matching colors together.”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “It’s hard to do things without hearing or talking, but you all did a great job helping each other!”
