KID CONNECT

COLORING PAGE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: crayons, coloring pages, Quest animal check-in sheet
What you do: Place the crayons in the center of the circle and give each child a coloring page. Write children’s names and tag numbers on the Quest animal check-in sheet.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to color their coloring page. As children color, get to know them by asking what they have done today or what they are going to do.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Make sure children’s names are on their page and set the pages aside until children are picked up at the end of the worship experience.

FACE-OFF

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)
What you do: Deal the whole deck of cards evenly among all children. Each child should have a small stack of cards face-down on the floor in front of them.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Instruct children to flip over their top card and place it on the floor close to the center of the circle. The highest card (two is lowest; ace is highest) wins that hand and takes the cards from the center. These cards can be added to their personal stack. Continue having children flip over their top card and allowing the child with the highest cards to take all the cards from the center. When a child runs out of cards, the child is out. The player to collect all the cards first is the winner!
If two people both play the card with the highest value, they will compete in a “face-off.” Each child will lay down three cards, face-down, and then flip the fourth card face-up. The highest cards wins all the cards played!

THE LEADER SAYS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you do: Encourage children to stand up and spread out around the eGroup space.
What you say: “We’re going to play a fun game called ‘The Leader Says.’ Raise your hand if you’ve ever played ‘Simon Says’ before. (Pause.) Great! We’ll play this game the same way. I will call out some instructions for you to follow, BUT you must listen very carefully. If I say, ‘The leader says touch your toes,’ then you should touch your toes! But if I don’t say, ‘The leader says,’ and I just say, ‘Touch your toes,’ you DO NOT touch your toes. If you do an action when I haven’t said, ‘The leader says,’ you’ll have to pretend to ride a bike all the way around our eGroup rug before you can get back in the game!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Call out instructions for the children to follow. If the instruction starts with, “The leader says,” children must follow. If not, and the child does perform the instruction, remind them to listen carefully and then encourage the child to pretend to ride a bike around the eGroup rug.
What you say: “Remember to follow my instructions ONLY when I say, ‘The leader says,’ first! That’s the right way to play!”
“The leader says to stomp your feet.”
“The leader says to jump up and down.”
“Say your name.”
“The leader says to hug your neighbor.”
“The leader says to touch your toes.”
“The leader says to sing the ‘A,B,C’ song.”
“Nod your head.”
“Do three jumping jacks.”
“The leader says to pretend to be a statue.”
“The leader says to reach for the sky.”
“The leader says to bark like a dog.”
“The leader says to jog in place.”
“Sing, ‘La-la-la!’”
“The leader says to click your tongue.”
“The leader says to show me your muscles.”

GET TO KNOW YOU

CREATING THE SCENE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: activity mat (1), activity cards (12)
What you do: Seat children in a circle and place the activity mat in the center of the eGroup. Spread the activity cards around (but not on) the activity mat.
What you say: “This month as we continue our Bikes and Trikes series, we’re learning that when we learn God’s Word, we can take the Bible with us wherever our bikes and trikes might take us! Before we get started, let’s get to know each other better while we create a fun scene to go with our Bikes and Trikes series!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage each child to say their name to the eGroup. After sharing their name, each child should choose one of the activity cards. Read a question from the back of the card, encourage the child to answer, then allow the child to place the activity card where he/she thinks it looks best on the activity mat.
After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.
What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:
Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)
If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:
I am (allow response)
a (insert animal group name) (allow response)
I will (allow response)
be kind and safe! (allow response)
On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’
1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . .
Go (insert group name)!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Now that we all know each other and we know the rules, we’re ready to hear a Bible story about how God invites each of us to be part of His family!”

BIBLE CONNECT

HEBREWS 10:24-25 & JOHN 3:1-17

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers
What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible! Hebrews 10:24-25 tells us that the family of God encourages each other, spends time together, and loves each other. In our Bible story today, we’ll see that God wants all of us to be part of His family!”

PRONUNCIATION GUIDE
 Nicodemus: nick-oh-DEE-mus

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 310-313 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker. If children can’t remember the answer, take time as an eGroup to look back through the Bible story and find the answer together.
What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”
“Was Nicodemus a leader in Jerusalem or was he a fisherman?”(a leader)
“Did Nicodemus believe Jesus was just like everyone else, or did he believe Jesus was special because He came from God?”(He believed Jesus was special because He came from God.)
“Did Jesus tell Nicodemus he needed to be born again or eat dinner again?”(be born again)
“Did Nicodemus understand what Jesus meant about being born again?” (no)
“Did Jesus say Nicodemus needed to be born into King Herod’s family or into God’s family?” (God’s family)
“Who is God’s Son?” (Jesus)
“Did God send Jesus here because He loves us very much or because He didn’t need Jesus with Him?” (because He loves us very much)
“When anyone believes in Jesus, can they be part of God’s family?”
(yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “God’s family isn’t just for people who are super important, or extra smart, or have a lot of money. The Bible tells us we can all be part of God’s family! And when we join God’s family, we get to be part of a group of people who support and encourage each other. The Bible promises we can be part of this awesome family when we choose to believe in Jesus. What is with you wherever you go?” (God’s Word is with me wherever I go.)

VERSE VOICES

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: no supplies
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us we can keep God’s Word in our hearts. When we memorize God’s Word, it’s always with us!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, encourage children to practice the memory verse with you using different voices.
What you say: “I am going to say our memory verse. Everyone watch me! (Demonstrate the memory verse as shown in the sidebar.) Now let’s do it all together! Are you ready? (Say the memory verse with the motions several times.) Now let’s try the verse in some silly voices!”
“Say the verse in a high voice, like your bike has a squeaky wheel!”
“Say the verse really slowly, like you’re pedaling your bike through mud.”
“Say the verse in a scared voice, like your trike is going too fast!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “Great job, friends! Learning our memory verse helps us hide God’s Word in our hearts!”
What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster! Allow children an opportunity to recite the verse by themselves. Give any child who recites the verse by themselves a memory verse card. Mark the “MV” box by that child’s name on your check-in sheet.

PASS THE HEART

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: heart-shaped stress ball (1)
What you do: Seat children in a circle.
What you say: “Our Bible verse tells us we can keep God’s Word in our hearts. When we memorize God’s Word, it’s always with us!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will pass the heart around while you say the answer to our key question. Sometimes you’ll say, “The Bible is with me wherever I go,” very slowly, and sometimes you’ll say it quickly. Whoever is holding the heart when you finish saying the word, “go,” will choose a friend to stand with them and say the memory verse together. Continue passing the heart and allowing children to practice the verse as long as time allows.

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Explain children will take turns turning over two cards. If the two cards match, read the prompt below that corresponds to the matching cards. The child can hold onto the two cards until the end of the game. If the two cards do not match, the child will return them to the same spots, face-down.
What you say: (As a match is found, read the prompt below for that match.)
OLD PERSON/YOUNG PERSON: “Put your hands on your head if you’re old or on the floor if you’re young. (Lead children in responding.) It doesn’t matter whether we’re old or young, we can all be part of God’s family!”

MEAN PERSON: “Tap your nose if you’ve ever seen someone being mean or unkind to someone else. (Lead children in responding.) It can feel hard to love someone who is mean, but God still loves them anyway. God still wants them to be part of His family, and then He can help them learn to be kind!”

SHY CHILD/OUTGOING CHILD: “Rub your arms if you’re shy around new people, or wave your arms around if you love to meet and play with new people. (Lead children in responding.) It doesn’t matter whether we’re a little shy or whether we love meeting new people, God wants us all in His family!”

DIVERSE CHILDREN: “Point to someone in our eGroup that has a different color hair than you. (Lead children in responding.) Point to someone in our eGroup that is taller or shorter than you. (Lead children in responding.) We all look different and like different things, but God loves us all the same and wants each one of us to be in His family!”

BOY/GIRL: “Stand on one foot if you’re a girl or stand on two feet if you’re a boy. (Lead children in responding.) Whether you’re a boy or a girl, God is excited to have you in His family!”

ATHLETE/ARTIST: “Pat your knees if you like sports better, or clap your hands if you like art better. (Lead children in responding.) It doesn’t matter what kinds of things you might like to do, God wants you to be in His family and He can use your gifts to do something great!”

AFTER THE ACTIVITY
What you say: “God’s Word tells us we can all be part of God’s family. When we’re in God’s family, we have lots of different people around us to love and support us! What is with you wherever you go?” (God’s Word is with me wherever I go.)

We can use our list when we pray.” (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)
“When God’s family does these things for one another, they are taking God’s Word with them wherever they go. Let’s pray and thank God for making a way for us to be a part of His family. Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus to make a way for us to be a part of Your family. Thank You for the church where we can learn to love one another the way You love us. FOUR CORNER REVIEW

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY
What you need: Quest playing cards (1 deck)
What you do: Place four different cards at four different corners of the eGroup space.
What you say: “Each of you will choose one of our Quest playing cards to stand beside. I’m going to start turning over the other playing cards one at a time. If I turn over a card that matches one of the cards in the corners, everyone standing by the matching card will say the main point together! Our main point is, ‘The Bible tells me I can be a part of God’s family.’”

DURING THE ACTIVITY
What you do: Encourage all children to stand beside one of the four Quest playing cards in a corner of the eGroup space. One at a time, flip over playing cards from the remaining deck until a card matching one of the corner cards is turned over. Ask all children standing in that corner to say the main point (‘The Bible tells me I can be a part of God’s family.’) together. Allow children to pick a different corner to stand in, and continue to turn over Quest playing cards from the deck until another card matching a corner card is shown. Ask all children standing in that corner to say the main point (‘The Bible tells me I can be a part of God’s family.’) together. Repeat as long as time and interest allow.
