What you need: toolbox mat, tool cards

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Explain that after each child introduces themselves, they will take a tool card from the toolbox and hand it to you. Read the question on the tool card aloud and encourage the child to answer. Continue until all children have been introduced.

After all children are introduced, pass out a Quest animal sticker to each child. Have each child place it next to their name tag.

What you say: “We are the (insert animal name) today! There are two very special rules to remember so we can have the most fun. The rules to follow are:

  1. Be Safe – How can we be safe? (keeping our hands to ourselves, sitting when others are sitting, walking instead of running, following the rules)
  2. Be Kind – How can we be kind? (listening when others are talking, sharing, obeying leaders, sitting on our bottoms so others can see)

If you can obey our special rules and are ready to have fun then put one hand in the center and repeat after me:

I am (allow response)

a (insert group name) (allow response)

I will (allow response)

be kind and safe! (allow response)

On the count of three everyone, say ‘Go (insert animal name)!’

BIBLE CONNECT

THE GOOD SAMARITAN

LUKE 10:25-37

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: God’s Story for Me Bible, Bible story stickers

What you say: “We can find true stories in God’s book, the Bible!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Show and read the Bible story from pages 369-373 in the God’s Story for Me Bible. Ask the Bible story review questions. Each time a child answers a question correctly, give the child a sticker.

What you say: “Let’s see how much you remember from our Bible story!”

  1. “What bad thing happened to the man while he was traveling?” (Some men hurt him and took all his money.)
  2. “Could the man get up to find help?” (no)
  3. “When the important leader walked by, did he stop to help the man?” (no)
  4. “Did the second person who walked by stop to help the man?” (no)
  5. “Did the man on the donkey stop to help the hurt man?” (yes)
  6. “How did the man on the donkey help him?” (He bandaged his cuts and took him to a safe place.)
  7. “Did the man on the donkey show love by helping the hurt man?” (yes)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Two men passed right by the man who was hurt without stopping to help. But the man on the donkey, who was called a Samaritan, knew he could love by helping. He loved the man like Jesus loves us because he stopped to help. He was a good neighbor and a good friend! We can love others by helping too. How can you love like Jesus?” (I can love everyone.)

VERSE BUILDERS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you say: “This month our Bible verse says God loves us and He wants us to show that love to others! Let’s practice our verse together!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Say the memory verse and do the motions in front of the children. After showing them once, explain children will play “Verse Builders” to practice the memory verse. If children want to be a house builder, when you say, “3, 2, 1, BUILD!” they will put their hands over their head like a roof. If they want to be a toy builder, they will pretend to cuddle their favorite toy. If they want to be an ice cream sundae builder, they will pretend to scoop ice cream. Count down by saying, “3, 2, 1, BUILD,” wait for children to choose a motion, and then call out a type of builder. All children doing the action for that builder will stand and say the verse together. Repeat until all children have practiced the verse.

What you say: “Time to practice the verse, builders! Here we go! 3, 2, 1, BUILD!” (Pause for children to choose what type of builder to be.) “I need all of the toy builders to stand up and say the verse together!” (Repeat until all children have practiced the verse, choosing a different type of builder each time.)

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Our memory verse tells us we can love others because God loves us!”

What you do: Explain to the group children can recite the verse each week to earn a memory verse card for their collectible poster!

PARACHUTE HELPERS

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: parachute, activity cards

What you do: Open the parachute in the center of the eGroup area and spread out children around the parachute.

What you say: “The tools the Samaritan used to help the man were money, medical supplies, and love. Let’s think about the tools we have to help others and show we love them!”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Ask children to hold onto the edge of the parachute and stand up. Explain children will keep holding onto the parachute and move the parachute around in a big circle while hopping on one foot. (eGL Tip: Be sure to make it very clear to children which direction they will all be moving!)

Tell children to start hopping around the circle on one foot. When the first child puts their foot down, tell the whole group to carefully lower the parachute and ask that child to stand on the middle of the parachute. Read one of the activity cards aloud and encourage the child standing on the parachute to answer. If the child needs help answering, encourage the rest of the eGroup to show the child love by helping! Ask the child to return to their spot on the edge of the parachute and encourage children to pick up the parachute. Repeat the activity until all activity cards have been read.

AFTER THE ACTIVITY

What you say: “Jesus loves everyone, and He wants us to show people love, too! A great way we can show love is by helping everyone who needs help. How can you love like Jesus?” (I can love everyone.)

eKIDZ JOURNAL AND COLLECTIBLE

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: eKidz eGroup prayer journal, pen, sample collectible poster, main point card, glue, Sharpie marker, eKidz eGroup prayer journal

What you say: “God can do great things through us when we learn and live out what the Bible says! Today we learned we can love by helping. Let’s think about some ways we can help people.”

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Take out your eGroup prayer journal and pen. Write down each child’s name and what they say in the journal. Pray with the group.

What you say: “Since helping people is one way we can show people we love them like Jesus loves them, let’s make a list of ways we can help people. I’ll write everyone’s name in our prayer journal. When I say your name, I want you to tell me one way you can help people and I’ll write it beside your name. We can use the list we make when we pray. (Write each child’s name and what they say in the journal.)

“Let’s pray together now! Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus, to love everyone. We want to help people so they will know we love them like Jesus loves them. Help [child’s name] to (read from list) and . . . (repeat for each child). Help us to see people who need our help and then do it, so they will know we love them and Jesus does, too! We love You, God. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

What you do: Give each child a main point card. Encourage children to color their main point cards as you talk. Show the prizes on the back of the sample collectible poster.

What you say: “Each weekend you visit Wonder! Clubhouse you’ll get main point cards to add to your collectible poster. Collect six cards and bring your poster back to Quest to receive a special prize! We have some really special Quest animal prizes that we can’t wait to share with you once you bring back your filled poster!

Today’s main point card says, ‘I can love by helping.’ I want you to color your main point card now. Add this card to your collectible poster at home.

VIPs AND CHILDREN WHO NEED A NEW COLLECTIBLE POSTER: Give the child a collectible poster and glue the main point card on their poster. Write the child’s name on the front of the poster with the Sharpie marker.

What you do: Take your journal home with you so you can pray for your eGroup children by name throughout the week.

BEFORE THE ACTIVITY

What you need: no supplies

What you do: Seat children in a wide circle.

DURING THE ACTIVITY

What you do: Remind children our main point today is “I can love by helping.” Explain children will be listening carefully for you to say the main point. When you say the main point correctly, everyone will stand up and find a new spot around the circle. Tell them sometimes you’ll put a wrong word in the main point, but they should only move if you say all the right words! If children start to get up and move when you said a wrong word, they will need to shout the main point before sitting back down.

What you say: “All right, friends, make sure you listen very carefully for me to say our main point correctly: I can love by helping! I’m going to put some other silly words in sometimes, so help each other listen for the right words!”
