Friends do lots of fun things together. We eat together and play together. Friends take care of one another, help one another, and praise God together, too! God gave us a very precious gift when He gave us the gift of friendship. David and Jonathan’s story is one of the greatest friendship stories every told and teaches us all what friendship is all about. Our lives are better when we build them together with friends!

(Neighbor comes on stage, waving at the children.)

NEIGHBOR: Hi everyone! I’m so glad you’re hanging out in our neighborhood today. We’re having so much fun at Wonder! Clubhouse! My name is _________ (your name) and I definitely want to be friends with each and every one of YOU!

NEIGHBOR: Friends take care of one another, help one another, and praise God together! God gave us a very precious gift when He gave us the gift of friendship. I want everyone to turn to someone next to you and say, “Hey, friend!”

(Allow children to say, “Hey, friend!” to someone sitting near them.)

NEIGHBOR: Friends are fun and I’m so thankful God gives us friends! We’ve spent the last four weeks learning about friendship from the story of David in the Bible. Today, we’re going to review what makes great, Godly friendships by remembering what we’ve learned! Today at Wonder! Clubhouse we’re learning, “God gives me good friends!”  Repeat that after me:

God gives me (thumbs to chest)
(Allow time for children to repeat.)
good friends! (two thumbs up)
(Allow time for children to repeat.)

NEIGHBOR: Great job, everyone! If there’s one thing I know my Quest friends love to do   together, it’s praise God! Let’s all stand up and praise God together!

Memory Verse Review[1:30]

SLIDE: WCLU Campus Screen Graphic

NEIGHBOR: That was so much fun! I love seeing all of our Quest friends praising God together. Everyone spin in a circle, high five a friend, and have a seat!

(Allow children to spin in a circle, give a friend a high five, and encourage them to sit down.)

NEIGHBOR: This month we’ve been learning about friendship. If you have a friend, raise two hands in the air and wave them around!

(Allow children to raise their hands and wave them around.)

NEIGHBOR: Wow! That’s a LOT of friends. Since you all have friends, then you know what a friend acts like. Now tell me, does a friend comfort you when you’re sad?

(Allow children to say, “Yes!”)

NEIGHBOR: They sure do! Does a friend help you when you fall down on the playground?

(Allow children to say, “Yes!”)

NEIGHBOR: That’s right! Does a friend give you a high five when you did a good job in you game?

(Allow children to say, “Yes!”)

NEIGHBOR: That’s great! You all have some very good friends. And the Bible tells us how YOU and I can be good friends, too!

SLIDE: WCBT Memory Verse

Therefore (point out)
encourage one another (two thumbs up)
and build each other up. (push palms up to the sky)
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (open hands like a book)

NEIGHBOR: We can be good friends by being nice to others and saying kind things to the people around us. No matter what, we should always do what the Bible says and build each other up by being good friends!

NEIGHBOR: We are learning this Bible verse so we can remember what God says about being a good friend! Let’s say it together:

Therefore (point out)
encourage one another (two thumbs up)
and build each other up. (push palms up to the sky)
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (open hands like a book)

NEIGHBOR: Way to go! I can tell you’ve all become better friends and will use this verse to continue being good friends to the people around you!

Main Point Review [0:30]

SLIDE: WCLU Campus Screen Screen Graphic

NEIGHBOR: We’ve been learning about two friends in the Bible, Jonathan and David. We can build strong friendships by having fun together, comforting each other, and helping each  other, just like Jonathan and David! We can thank God for our friends because He gives us good friends! Repeat our main point after me:

God gives me (thumbs to chest)
good friends! (two thumbs up)

NEIGHBOR: Great job! If you can be a good friend like Jonathan, or a good friend like David, I want you to stand up and praise God together with me!

Song: Do Big Things [3:01]

Remember, Think, Follow [1:45]

SLIDE: MNEI Campus Screen Graphic

NEIGHBOR: That was so much fun! I love seeing all of our Quest friends praising God together. Everyone spin in a circle, high five a friend, and have a seat!

(Allow children to spin in a circle, give a friend a high five, and encourage them to sit down.)

NEIGHBOR: Now it’s time for us to remember (hold hands like a book) our Bible story, think (point to head) about the good things from our story, and follow (march in place) the example set by the people in the Bible story.

NEIGHBOR: To remember the Bible stories about Jonathan and David, we need to be quiet and listen. Can we think about what we learned in our Bible story if we are talking to our friends?

(Allow children to say, “No!”)

NEIGHBOR: That’s right! To remember our Bible stories about Jonathan and David, we also need to sit down criss cross applause! Can we think about what we learned in our Bible story if we are standing up and running around the room?

(Allow children to say, “No!”)

NEIGHBOR: You got it! I know we can remember, think, and follow the example in our Bible stories about Jonathan and David by following these rules!

NEIGHBOR: Now that all of our friends are ready, let’s remember, think, and follow!

SLIDE: WCBT Remember  Wk5

NEIGHBOR: First let’s REMEMBER (hold hands like a book) … Who was David’s best friend?

(Allow time for children to answer – “Jonathan.”)

NEIGHBOR: He sure was! Jonathan and David were BEST friends!

SLIDE: WCBT Think WK5

NEIGHBOR: Now, let’s THINK (point to head) about the good things from our Bible story. Did Jonathan help his friend David when he was in trouble?

(Allow time for children to answer – “Yes!”)

NEIGHBOR: Yes, he told him to run away since King Saul wanted to hurt him!

SLIDE: WCBT Follow WK 5

NEIGHBOR: Now, let’s say how can we FOLLOW (march in place) the example set in our Bible story. Who can we thank for giving us good friends?

(Allow time for children to answer – “God!”)

NEIGHBOR: That’s right! We can thank God for giving us good friends so we can build strong friendships.
