Gone Fishin’

STORYTELLER: “Hello friends! Welcome to Quest and welcome to the Wonder! Clubhouse! This month in the Wonder! Clubhouse we’ve Gone Fishin’ as we’re learning all about Jesus, His disciples, and how He taught them to be the best followers and friends a person could have. Hey, I have an idea! Why don’t you follow my motions? I’ll do something, and then you’ll have to follow me and do it, too! Let’s try it! Everybody stand up!”

Wait for kids to stand up.

STORYTELLER: “Now, I’m going to start hopping up and down like a fish out of water and you follow along, ready? (begin jumping) Now, I’m going to hop this way. Everybody hop this way! (take two jumps to the left) Now, hop this way! (take two jumps to the right) Great job! Now lastly, I want everyone to squeeze in your mouth and make a fish face, just like this!“(make a fish face)

STORYTELLER: “Great job, friends! Now, I’m not sure that’s exactly what Jesus meant when he wanted His disciples to be fishers of men. Jesus probably didn’t want us to ACT like fish, so I wonder what he was talking about? You know what, I bet we’ll find out more in the Wonder! Clubhouse!”

STORYTELLER: “Now friends, whenever I say ‘Who can you follow?’ You’ll say ‘I can follow Jesus!’ Let’s try that now! ‘Who can you follow?’”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “I can follow Jesus!”

STORYTELLER: “Great job! You can follow Jesus, and that’s something we want to celebrate! We’re going to sing, dance, and thank God for His love. Let’s stand to our feet as we sing!”

SONG: “Everybody Sing”

Lead children in singing, “Everybody Sing,” with the hand motions.

SONG: “Plan For Me”

Lead children in singing, “Plan For Me,” with the hand motions.

STORYTELLER: “Thanks for worshipping with me, friends. Before you have a seat, tell me, ‘Who can you follow?’”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “I can follow Jesus!”

STORYTELLER: “That’s right! We can follow Jesus, just like a group of people called his disciples did! In fact, Jesus said that in our memory verse this month! Watch me say our memory verse, and then we’ll practice it together:
“’Come (motion towards self with hand) and follow me (march in place) Jesus said.’ (cup hands around mouth) Matthew 4:19” (open hands like a book)

STORYTELLER AND CHILDREN TOGETHER: “’Come (motion towards self with hand) and follow me (march in place) Jesus said.’ (cup hands around mouth) Matthew 4:19” (open hands like a book)

Repeat the memory verse with the kids two more times.

STORYTELLER: “Great job, friends! Let’s say it one more time, ‘Who can you follow?’”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “I can follow Jesus!”

STORYTELLER: “Yes! That’s the truth, friends! Now let’s check in with Ollie at Wonder! Clubhouse to learn more.”

STORYTELLER: “That was great! I’m so glad we learned we can follow Jesus! It seems like Jesus wants us to know that to be a fisher of men we need to become a follower of Jesus, just like the four people in today’s Bible story!”

STORYTELLER: “Remind me again, ‘Who can you follow?’”

CHILDREN AND STORYTELLER: “I can follow Jesus!”

STORYTELLER: “Yes! That’s the truth, friends. We learned that we can follow Jesus, just like the fishermen in today’s Bible story! Let’s pray and thank God for our Bible story today. Everyone bow your heads and close your eyes.”

STORYTELLER: “Dear God, thank You for your son Jesus. Help us to follow Jesus and learn from Him every day. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

STORYTELLER: “Great listening today, friends! Now it’s time for you to go back to your eGroups, but I’ll see you again next time!”

STORYTELLER: “Where is the _________ (color of Quest Animal eGroup, ie: Purple Parrot) eGroup? You can go ahead and line up with your eGroup Leader at the door and go back to eGroup.”

STORYTELLER: “Where is the _________ (color of Quest Animal eGroup, ie: Teal Tiger) eGroup? You can go ahead and line up with your eGroup Leader at the door and go back to eGroup.”

STORYTELLER: “Where is the _________ (color of Quest Animal eGroup, ie: White Warthog) eGroup? You can go ahead and line up with your eGroup Leader at the door and go back to eGroup.”

Continue until all eGroups are dismissed.
