Camp Director Cricket (V.O.) #1: Well, hello there campers! I’m Camp Director Cricket. Welcome to Camp Wannastay. I just love the outdoors and spending time at camp! I love it so much I wannastay everyday! And today is a special day because it’s Blue Beaver Day at camp. I hope all of you are wearing blue for Blue Beaver Day! We’re going to have so much fun today on our camp adventures. First let’s meet your camp counselor, Poncho! On the count of three can you all yell “Poncho?” 1, 2, 3!

(Allow kids to yell, “Poncho.”)

Poncho: Since it’s Blue Beaver Day at camp, let’s pretend to be Blue Beavers! Blue Beavers like to swim in the water, so let me see you pretend to swim! (Pretend to swim in place, and encourage the children to swim in place as well.) Blue Beavers also like to eat trees. Everyone, grab a tree and let’s eat it in five big bites! (Pretend to grab a tree and take five big bites, encouraging the children eat as well.) Good job, campers! You make great Blue Beavers!

Poncho: One of my favorite parts about camp is seeing all the different animals out in the wild. In fact, (cups hand to ear) I think I hear an animal now! Do you hear that, campers?

(Directs children’s attention towards screen.)

Video: Hoot_A

Poncho: (After seeing Hoot peaking out on the screen.) Oh look campers, it looks like our friend Hoot is flying our way! (Once Hoot appears completely on the screen, waves excitedly.) Hi Hoot!

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.) #2: Attention campers! You’ve found our friend Hoot. Hoot loves to sing and he always has a great song to share with us. All campers, stand up and sing with Hoot!

(Take Blue Beaver mask off and put it inside the backpack. Allow time for eGroup Leaders to collect Blue Beaver masks from all the children in their eGroups and children to sit down.)

Audio: Camp Mail Bugle

Poncho: (Hears bugle noise.) Oh boy! That sound can only mean one thing – CAMP MAIL! (Dances around with excitement.)

Poncho: Camp mail is one of my favorite things about being at camp because you never know who might send it. Today at Camp Wannastay we got a post card from the Blue Beaver! (Holds up walkie talkie to talk to Camp Director Cricket.) Camp Director Cricket, can you read it to us?

Video: Blue Beaver Postcard WK 2

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): Sure, Poncho. Campers, today’s camp mail is from Blue Beaver since we’re celebrating Blue Beaver Day! Listen closely as I read the post card to you!

Hey campers! Thank you for coming to Blue Beaver Day at Camp Wannastay! Today during Blue Beaver Day, we’re going to learn, “Leaders let others go first.”

I’m a leader because one time at Camp Wannastay, I let Pink Pig go first on the water slide. You can be a leader, too, by letting others go first. Have fun today, and remember, “Leaders let others go first!”

Blue Beaver

Poncho: (Holds up walkie talkie to talk to Camp Director Cricket.) Thank you Camp Director Cricket! I love camp mail. And what a great post card from our friend Blue Beaver. Something special Blue Beaver learned at Camp Wannastay is,

let others (point to others)
go first! (show pointer finger)

Poncho: Can you say that with me, campers?

Leaders (point to self)
let others (point to others)
go first! (show pointer finger)

Poncho: Great job! Just like Blue Beaver, we can be leaders and show love to those around us by letting them go first.

Scene 4: Campfire Story                                             [0:45]

Video: CWAN_LG_Screen Graphic

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): Attention campers! It’s time for us to have a campfire! But a campfire wouldn’t be complete with out a campfire story. And you know who tells the best campfire stories at Camp Wannastay? Why, our good friend Brownie Bear, of course! I bet Brownie Bear is busy trying to find some honey for her belly, but let’s see if she can tell us a camp fire story!

Poncho: Oh, I love campfire stories! On the count of three, let’s all say “Brownie Bear!” as loud as we can. Ready? 1, 2, 3! Brownie Bear!

(Cup hand to ear, pretending to listen for Brownie Bear.)

Poncho: We must not have been loud enough. Campers, we’re going to need to use our outside voices to call Brownie Bear. On the count of three, let’s all say “Brownie Bear!” with our outdoor voices. Ready? 1, 2, 3! (Say loudly with the children.) Brownie Bear!

(Cup hand to ear, pretending to listen for Brownie Bear.)

Poncho: Oh, I can hear her now! Let’s see if she can share a campfire story with us.

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): What a fun campfire story! But a campfire story wouldn’t be complete without … marshmallows! Let’s see if you can remember what we learned during our campfire Bible story today.

Video: CWAN_LG_Marshmallow1a

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): Did Deborah make Barak go last, or did she let him go first?

(Wait for children to respond – “First!”)

Video: CWAN_LG_Marshmallow1b

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): That’s right! Deborah was a great leader, because she let others go first to help win the battle!

Video: CWAN_LG_Marshmallow2a

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): Should we always be first or should we let others go first?

(Wait for children to respond – “Let others go first!”)

Video: CWAN_LG_Marshmallow2b

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): You got it! We can be leaders just like Deborah and let others go first!

Poncho: Wait, Camp Director Cricket! (Cups hand to ear.) I think I hear our special owl friend flying our way. Do you hear that, campers?

(Directs children’s attention towards screen.)

Video: Hoot

Poncho: (After seeing Hoot peaking out on the screen.) It sounds like Hoot!

Poncho: (Once Hoot appears completely on the screen, wave excitedly.) Hi again, Hoot! (To the children.) We know Hoot loves to sing songs about Jesus! He also loves to learn verses from the Bible, just like you’ve been doing! To help us learn this Bible verse, we’re going to sing a song together. Are you ready to sing? Let’s all stand up and sing with Hoot!

Song: Hebrews 13:7 Song                                               [1:58]

Poncho: Great singing friends! You can sit down now.

(Allow children to sit down.)

SLIDE: CWAN_LG_Screen Graphic

Camp Director Cricket (V.O.): Great job campers! Our Bible verse teaches us how we can learn from our Bible story. Poncho, you know what that means – remember, think and follow!

Poncho: That’s right! Time for us to remember our Bible story, think about the good things from our story, and follow the example set by the people in the Bible story.

Slide: CWAN_Remember_WK2

Poncho: First, let’s REMEMBER (point to head) who the leader is. Who was the leader we learned about today?

(Allow children to answer – “Deborah”)

Poncho: Yes, that’s right!

Slide: CWAN_Think_WK2

Poncho: Now, let’s THINK (two thumbs up) about the good things he did. Did Deborah let others go first to help win the battle?

(Allow children to answer – “Yes!”)

Poncho: Great job friends!

Video: CWAN_Follow_WK2

Poncho: Now, let’s say how can we FOLLOW (cup hands around mouth while whispering) Jesus’ example and be a leader. Can you be a leader like Deborah and let others go first?

(Allow children to answer – “Yes!”)

Poncho: Great job friends! You’re on your way to being great leaders already.

Thanks for joining us at Camp Wannastay for Blue Beaver Day. I hope you had fun and wannastay just like I do! See you all next week. Bye, campers!

Poncho: It’s time for me to head to the lake and time for you to continue celebrating Blue Beaver Day in eGroup! eGroup Leaders, go ahead and help your group put their Blue Beaver masks on. I’ll see you next week. Bye, campers!

(Walks off stage, waving to the children. eGroup Leaders should continue to put masks on children before dismissed from Large Group.)
