Virtue: Uniqueness. Discovering who God made you to be so you can make a difference.
Main Point: God made you to be you.
Bible Story: David and Saul’s Armor
Bible Passage: 1 Samuel 17
Memory Verse: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 NIV



WHAT YOU NEED: Legos (1 bag)

Start by introducing yourself and welcoming kids to your eGroup. Ask them about their week and interests. Use the following questions to generate discussion:
What’s something cool that happened this week?
What was the best part of your week?
Have you ________ (seen/eaten/listened to/read) any good _________ (movies/TV shows/food/music/books) lately?
What are you looking forward to next week?

Once you have five to six kids begin “Lego Creations.”
Place the Legos in the center of the eGroup where all kids can reach the pieces.
Encourage children to build a Lego creation that represents one of the scenarios listed below and then share the story behind their creation with the eGroup.
Create something that represents either the best or worst part of your week.
Create something that represents what makes you unique.
Create something that represents your happiest memory.
After kids have completed the task, allow kids to continue creating whatever they choose with the Legos.
Before transitioning to the Bible Story Activity, be sure all Legos have been collected and returned to the Lego bag.



WHAT YOU NEED: Bible, Bible story sheet, creation cards (10), blank copy paper (1 per kid), self-inking stamps (1 per kid)

“Welcome to eGroup! My name is _______ and I’m your eGroup leader! As an eGroup we will hang out together during Motion, hear stories from the Bible, learn what it means to live for Jesus, and play games!
As we continue our Gadgets and Gizmos series, we’re shifting our focus to making a difference by embracing the unique traits and characteristics God has placed in each of us. Let’s dig into God’s Word together now and learn more about some people in the Bible who embraced their uniqueness to do great things for God!”

Have kids sit in a circle with their Bibles and instruct kids to turn to 1 Samuel. NOTE: This may take time, but it helps kids learn skills for reading the Bible on their own. If needed, encourage kids to use the table of contents in their Bible and then decide if the book is in the Old or New Testament.
Give each kid one creation card, a piece of blank copy paper, and a self-inking stamp. If any cards are leftover, give kids the option to take a second creation card and piece of copy paper.
Tell kids they have about two minutes to create a picture of the item listed on their creation card using the paper and stamps. (They can use the stamp to stamp the outline of the item.)
eGL Tip: Be sure children stamp on their copy paper, NOT on the creation card.
After kids have had a couple of minutes to create their picture, explain kids will listen for the word on their creation card as you read the Bible story. When they hear the word, they should hold up their picture for everyone to see.
Read 1 Samuel 17 aloud as directed on the Bible story sheet and encourage kids to hold up their pictures as their words are read.

“God didn’t choose David to fight for and eventually lead His people because David was the biggest, strongest, or smartest. David was unique among the Israelites because he possessed strength that came from his faith in God and sensitivity to God’s voice. Like David, God has given you unique talents and experiences. He wants to use you to stand strong for Him, too. You won’t be crushing giants or slinging stones at anyone, but if you choose to stand for God, He will use you in courageous and meaningful ways with those around you. God made you to be you and no one else.”



WHAT YOU NEED: charades cards (8)

Divide kids into two teams.
Explain kids will act out using common supplies they might find around a home or workplace.
Teams will be allowed to make only two guesses each round, so kids are encouraged to discuss their guesses with the rest of their team before calling them out.
Choose a kid from the first team to be the actor; the rest of the group will be guessers for this round. Let the actor randomly choose one of the charades cards and act out using the supply shown on the card.
The guessers may make up to two guesses. If they guess correctly, give the team the charades card. If they do not guess correctly, discard the charades card.
Choose an actor from the other team and repeat.
Continue alternating between teams, choosing a new actor for each charades card.
The team with the most charades cards at the end wins!

“Great job, everyone! Each of these supplies has a specific purpose. A stapler holds paper together; scissors cut paper apart. A stapler can’t do what a pair of scissors can do just like a pair of scissors can’t do what a stapler does. They each have their own unique and purposeful job. In the same way, God has given each of us a set of unique gifts, traits, and characteristics that He can use to do great things. I can’t do your job and you can’t do mine; we each need to fulfill our unique purpose. God made you to be you!”

Discussion Questions:
“What makes you unique? How could God use that unique characteristic?”
“Has their ever been a time you didn’t like one of your unique characteristics? Does it change your mind about that unique trait to know God can use it to make a difference?”
“God made us in different ways on purpose. How does understanding that change the way you treat others?”


WHAT YOU NEED: eKidz Prayer Journal (or eKidz Prayer Journal page), pen

“Today we learned God made you to be you, and He has a unique purpose for each unique person. When you use your uniqueness to point others to God, you can see God do great things through you!
I want you to share one thing that is unique about you. I’m going to write your name and what you share in our eKidz Prayer Journal so we can pray for God to show us ways He can use our unique traits to do great things.”

Write down what kids share in your eKidz Prayer Journal. Take your eKidz Prayer Journal home with you and pray for your kids throughout the week.
“Heavenly Father, You are awesome! Thank You so much for each one of these kids, and thank You for the way You’ve made each of them special. Help us discover and embrace our uniqueness so we can make a difference in the world around us. Help us to trust and follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”


WHAT YOU NEED: Bibles, Bible tool kits, circuit boards (4), verse cards (4 sets: blue, red, orange, and green)

“Our Bible verse, Ephesians 2:10, tells us God created each of us with a unique purpose and unique abilities to help us fulfill that purpose!”

Read the verse out loud: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
Help kids look up the memory verse in their Bibles. Encourage children to use tools from the Bible tool kit to mark the verse in their Bible. Tell kids who didn’t bring a Bible they will receive a memory verse card at the end of the worship experience so they can remember to practice it at home.
Ask kids if there are any words or phrases they don’t understand and explain them as needed.
Choose one of the memory verse activities: “Verse Circuit” or “Verse Practice.”
Split kids into four teams. Give each team a circuit board and a set of verse cards.
Explain kids will race to put the verse cards in order. Once the cards are in order, they’ll have to arrange the cards to form a path across their circuit board from one of the batteries to one of the lightbulb ports.
The verse cards must stay in the correct order, but kids can rotate and arrange the pieces as needed to create a continuous path.
eTL NOTE: Each set of cards has a different path, so teams can’t look at each other’s boards for clues as they try to figure out the correct path.
The first team to form a continuous path from a battery to a lightbulb port wins!
Use the following methods to help kids practice the memory verse:
REPEAT AFTER ME: Have kids repeat each phrase of the verse after you.
PAIR UP: Have kids pair up to practice the verse together.
MOTIONS: Come up with motions to represent phrases in the verse. Practice it together.
