Welcome / Intro

“Welcome to Fear Inc., everybody! Before we begin our brand new series, we’re gonna see how many fears we all have in common. If I say something that is a fear of yours, I want you to let me know by shouting out.

First, how many of us fear the dark?

(Pause for response)

Look around, friends. You’re not alone! Now, how about spiders?

(Pause for response)

Yeah, spiders freak me out! How about snakes?

(Pause for response)

Okay, how about what’s in your closet at night?

(Pause for response)

Yikes. I don’t like thinking about that.

Here’s one of mine, and it’s the very last one of our game. What about spooky movies or stories?

(Pause for response)

“I think if we were all being honest, every person in this room would be standing up! You can sit down now.

“Well, friends, it looks like we all have a few things we fear. But over the next few weeks, we’re going to hear TRUE stories about people who showed courage when they felt fear. Take a look at the screen.”

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“Moses, so many things could have gone wrong when Miriam put baby Moses into the river and I’m sure that both her and Moses’ mom, Jochebed, must have been afraid that something might happen to him! I mean, the Nile River has got crocodiles, after all… But despite being afraid, Miriam and Jochebed showed courage and took the next step to follow what God called them to do.

Before you head back to your eGroups, I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders because I’ve got a few questions I want you to answer. Take 10 seconds and circle around them now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Why did Jochebed decide to send Moses down the river? Discuss that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: Have you ever had to make a difficult decision? How did you decide what to do? Discus that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question: Difficult decisions take courage to make. Why should we ask for courage when we talk to God?”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answer coming from your eGroups today. Right now it’s time for us to go to God in worship and thank Him for what He’s done. The Bible is filled with amazing promises, and one of those is that God is for us. Every single day we can hold on to that truth. Let’s sing and celebrate that God is on our side. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Louder!’”

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to High Wire, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

Game Setup – Glossophobia

“Throughout Fear Inc. we’ll be learning how we can take the next steps to overcoming fear. Today we’ll be working to over come a fear known as Glossophobia – the fear of going on stage.

Each new round of this game I’ll call one kid up from each eGroup. Those kids will huddle around me and I’ll tell one thing that they have to act out in front of the crowd. Obviously the big rule for this game is that the actors cannot use any words at all; that means no mouthing the answer to your team!

Now here’s a little hint for all you guessers out there: all of the things that our performers will be acting out are things that people are afraid of. When you think you know the answer you’ve got to yell out ‘Fear of ________!’ The first eGroup to successfully yell out the answer the way I just said it wins the point for that round.

Let’s call up our first performers as we prepare to defeat Glossophobia, the fear of going on stage!”

(call up one kids from each eGroup to come on stage to begin the game)

252 Movie Intro

“Motion, today we learned God had special plans for baby Moses. When this whole thing started, Jochebed and Miriam didn’t know that. But they did know that they could trust God no matter what. That truth could give them the courage to know what they should do even though they had no idea what would happen next. The same is true for you and me. Let’s take a look at our main point for today:

(refer to the screen)

You can take the next step even when you don’t know what will happen next.

Even though we don’t know what will happen next, we know that we can trust God no matter what. Check out the screen as we find out what trusting God might have looked like for Moses’ sister, Miriam!”
