Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“The spies and the rest of the Israelites experienced a lot of emotions, but even their anger probably came from how scared they were. Have you guys even been scared like that? I know I have. And it’s even harder to have courage when everyone else around you is afraid too. Fear can be contagious sometimes, can’t it? But here’s the one thing I want you to remember:

You can take the next step even when others are afraid.

Before you head back to your eGroups, I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders because I’ve got a few questions I want you to answer. Take 10 seconds and circle around them now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: Why do you think the spies were afraid, even after God had promised the land to them? Discuss that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: Describe a time you had to show courage. Discus that now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question and it’s today’s ‘See What God Can Do Through You’ question: When others are afraid, how can you help them become more courageous? Discuss that question now.”

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answer coming from your eGroups today.

Right now it’s time for us to go to God in worship and thank Him for what He’s done. The Bible is filled with amazing promises, and one of those is that God is for us. Every single day we can hold on to that truth. Let’s sing and celebrate that God is on our side. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘This Is Living!’”

Dismissal To eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to Fear Inc., let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

Game Setup – Gerontophobia

PRONUNCIATION: Jer-on-to-fobia

“Throughout Fear Inc. we’ll be learning how we can take the next steps to overcoming fear. Today we’ll be working to overcome an odd fear, but it’s still la fear that might make it difficult to visit your grandparents – today’s fear is called Gerontophobia, a fear of growing old.

Each eGroup will receive a bag filled with all kinds of items that will transform their player into an old person. Each round you’ll choose one kid to get dressed up. When I say ‘Go!’ the eGroup will dress up their player which the clothing and items shown on the screen. The first player to come up to me wearing the correct clothing win the round for their eGroup and the eGroup that wins the most rounds wins the game.

One quick note before we begin – the players who are being dressed cannot dress themselves – their eGroup has to do all the work, so make sure the entire eGroup is working together to move as quickly as possible.

Let’s pass out the bags full of old people stuff and we’ll begin!”

252 Movie Intro

“Motion, I had so much fun with you today and I love that we learned how Joshua and Caleb showed courage when others were terrified. They believed God would help them defeat any enemy they faced. Joshua and Caleb could have been scared, but they chose to have faith in God and do what was right! Listening to God sounds like a pretty great game plan, and that same game plan can help us out even today. Check out the screen!”
