Motion Large Group :: Week of September 17

Main Point

When the pressure is on, you can trust God is with you.

Memory Verse:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Bible Story:
Joseph Interprets Pharaoh’s Dreams
Genesis 41

Welcome / Intro

“Step right up, everyone, because it’s time for the greatest show on earth! That’s right; this month, this is not just regular Motion experience. We are daring to walk the high wire of trust at the Motion Circus all month long! There will be feats of daring doom! There will be lions, tigers and bears— oh my! Your mind will be blown and your eyes won’t believe what they see!

(taking the announcer voice down a notch)

“Okay, maybe there won’t be wild animals, but we do have some really cool stuff planned for today as we continue talking about … what? Does anyone remember?

(pause to let the kids answer)

That’s right! Trust! Take a look at the screen and read this with me:

Trust is putting your confidence in someone you can depend on.

Trusting others can feel a little risky sometimes, kind of like walking on a high wire at the circus. We’ve been learning about a man in the Bible named Joseph recently and we’ve discovered that even when the pressure is on, you can trust God is with you. Check out the screen!”

Connect Questions / Dismissal to eGroups

“Wow, in just one day, Joseph went from being prisoner to being the second most powerful person in Egypt! You may not find yourself standing face to face with a Pharaoh, it’s amazing to think that if we rely on God, He’ll be there for us even when things can get difficult or dangerous.

Before you head back to your eGroups, I want you to circle around your eGroup leaders because I’ve got a few questions I want you to answer. Take 10 seconds and circle around them now.

(give kids time to circle around eGroup leaders)

First question: How do you think Joseph felt standing before Pharaoh? Do you think he was nervous or afraid? Why or why not? Discus that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Second question: When was the last time you had to do something that made you nervous? Discus that question now.

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Final question: Joseph trusted God to help him interpret Pharaoh’s dreams. How can you trust God to help you this week with something you might find to be difficult?

(give kids two minutes to answer the question)

Worship Intro

“Great job, everybody! I heard some incredible answer coming from your eGroups today.

Right now it’s time for us to go to God in worship and thank Him for what He’s done. The Bible is filled with amazing promises, and one of those is that God is for us. Every single day we can hold on to that truth. Let’s sing and celebrate that God is on our side. Stand to your feet as we sing ‘Wake!’”

Worship Song – Wake

Worship Song – Grace Like A Wave

Dismissal to eGroups

“Great job, Motion! Everybody stay standing because it’s time for us to head back to our eGroups. When I call your eGroup leaders’ name, you can stand up and follow them back.”

(dismiss kids back to eGroups)

VIP Welcome

“Welcome back from your eGroups! Before we dive back in to High Wire, let’s take a moment and welcome a special group of people who are here for the first time today. Motion, help me welcome our VIPs!

(initiate applause)

If it’s your first time here, we consider you a VIP – a very important person! VIPs, turn your attention to the screen because I’ve got some special instructions just for you.

(refer to the screen)

This is a VIP lanyard. If you’re a VIP, you’re wearing this around your neck right now.

[VIP Slide – Lanyard]

When you leave Motion, you need to take that lanyard to the orange tent called the Welcome Area.

[VIP Slide – Welcome Area]

Once you get to the Welcome Area, show them your lanyard and they will give you a gift!

[VIP Slide – Gift]

Let’s review.

[VIP Slide – All Combined]

VIP Lanyard + Welcome Area = Gift.”

Game Setup – Walk The Line

“Being a circus performer is all about being cool under pressure and being able to walk the fine line between balance and chaos. Today’s game will test your ability to carry yourself with grace and balance while racing against the other teams to carry a cotton ball from one side of the room to the other.

Each eGroup will line up behind a bucket we’ve placed on the floor filled with cotton balls and each kid will receive a plastic spoon that you’ll have to hold in your mouth.

The first kid in each line must bend down, pick up a cotton ball with the spoon and the walk across the line all the way to the other side of the room and drop the cotton ball in the bucket on the opposite side. Then, you’ll walk back to the back of your eGroup’s line and have a seat.

The first eGroup to have all of the members of their team seated wins the round and the eGroup that wins the most rounds wins the game. Let’s all stand to our feet and get ready to Walk The Line!”

252 Movie Intro

“Great job, Motion! Everybody have a seat.

(wait for kids to be seated)

Motion, today we learned…

(refer to main point slide)

Let’s say it together: When the pressure is on, you can trust God is with you.

It may comfort you to know that God can see things we can’t see. He can see a bigger picture than the small one we are able to see. And He can turn things that seem bad into good things, just like he did in Joseph’s life. God can make the most difficult, most confusing, worst parts of life, and turn them into something magnificent.

You know, I bet Joseph must have been so nervous in front of Pharaoh when he was summoned to interpret his dreams. I wonder what that might have looked like…
